Quote# 70577

I am an atheist. I voted for prop 8. I don't believe in god, but I believe in reason. Gay marriage sets our society on a slippery slope toward polygamy, incest and anything-goes. Show me one argument that justifies gay marriage but not gay marriage.

Equal protection? Why don't three or four people deserve the same equal protection as two? People in loving relationships? Worldwide and in parts of US, there are many polygamist families that are loving and fruitful. Also if gay marriage goes, so goes our deeprooted taboo against incest. What is the legal argument for prohibiting incest between two people that will not produce anything?

I don't get it. Are you arguing for or against gay marriage/polygamy?

You say you're atheist and believe in reason, but you use the same bullshit "slippery slope" arguments as the fundies.

You're either lying for jesus, or are a very confused individual. There are no secular arguments against same-sex marriage.

Sorry Asjc, but the "Actually, I'm an atheist." disclaimer doesn't make you any less of a bigoted moron.

You might believe in reason, but you show none.

Edit: Oh yeah, and there's nothing to logically argue against when it comes to incestuous non-child bearing relationships or marriages OR polygamy, and you wouldn't catch me saying otherwise, this is assuming consent is given by all involved parties and said parties are able to give aforementioned consent.

More than half of the US allows marriages between first cousins.

Did you have a point?

Aren't atheists usually for the protection of minorites, being a minority themselves? Especially since bigotry is never based on reason?

Oh yes there are, I've heard them, and they're just as irrational as the religious ones. Trust me, there are anti-gay atheists. I know it for a fact.

Note: Being an atheist does NOT necessarily mean a person can't be an ignoramus.

Well of course, stupidity and bigotry know no race, know no gender, know no orientation and certainly know no belief system.

Since you're the one making the argument that they should stay in effect, why don't you tell me?

For fucks sake you damned idiot. Oh, the ole "slippery slope" argument. Well, In countries where it is legal, and has been for decades, these same arguments against gay marriage were used. Guess what? None of the "slippery slopes" happened. All of that aside, if 2 or more CONSENTING adults wish to marry, I honestly have no problem with it. YES, even if it is consenting siblings or multiple CONSENTING adults in polygamy.

"I believe in reason." Apparently that's a lie, since you immediately commit the slippery slope fallacy THE VERY NEXT SENTENCE. In fact, you ACTUALLY USE THE WORDS "SLIPPERY SLOPE" IN THE PROCESS. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

"Show me one argument that justifies gay marriage but not gay marriage."

In English, please?

And hey, if all parties are consenting adults, what the hell is your problem? Did your spouse decide to hook up with someone else?

"Equal protection? Why don't three or four people deserve the same equal protection as two?"

Because there is no biological determining factor in polygamy, or in incest, for that matter. One is born with one's sexual orientation, just as one is born with one's race, gender, or eye color. That's why equal protection applies to gays, but not to polygamists or to incest. Polygamy is a choice, and incest, in most cases, is abuse; homosexuality is neither.

You may believe in reason, but you wouldn't know it if it stood up in your soup.

Gay marriage sets our society on a slippery slope toward polygamy, incest and anything-goes.

You're right. In fact, we should ban all marriage, just to be safe.
