Modern translation or not, it's still an intolerant, misogynistic load of tripe though...
2/22/2010 3:34:19 AM
It's about time someone had the balls to do that. Let's face it, most every modern translation skews the context to serve their own agenda.
Bang goes my irony meter.
2/22/2010 3:51:28 AM
So... when liberals translate the Bible, it's being "skewed the context to fit their own agenda", but when conservatives do it, it's the best thing since sliced bread?
Tell us, what qualifies Andy Assfly and Co. to translate ANYTHING into ANYTHING ELSE? (besides the fact they have a very large agenda to sell you... and if you can't see it, you've got some very good blinders.)
What is wrong with you?
2/22/2010 3:53:12 AM
Modern translation?. I don't think that King James Translation qualifies as such.
2/22/2010 4:11:27 AM
"This is due largely to the fact that you yourself don't understand the context and message presented in God's word. So what do people like you do? Change the wording so it makes you feel all warm and cuddly inside."
My irony meter just burst into flames.
2/22/2010 4:11:35 AM
Exactly what people have been doing the last 2000 years. Any other suggestions?
2/22/2010 4:13:14 AM
'No where is politics mentioned in the link but you went ahead and jumped to that conclusion.'
The Conservative Bible Project.
2/22/2010 4:16:01 AM
So the King James version is no longer fundie enough for fundies?
2/22/2010 4:24:54 AM
If modern translations are bad, just go back to older translations, or perhaps back to the very source; the Greek, Latin, Hebrew and Sumerian texts that was later compiled into The Bible.
Reading them will be a cinch for someone as knowledgeable and educated as you, right?
2/22/2010 4:32:15 AM
The irony.... it burns!
2/22/2010 4:37:27 AM
Let's face it, most every modern translation skews the context to serve their own agenda.
But this one doesn't?
2/22/2010 4:46:14 AM
"So the assembly sent twelve thousand fighting men with instructions to go to Jabesh Gilead and put to the sword those living there, including the women and children. "This is what you are to do," they said. "Kill every male and every woman who is not a virgin." They found among the people living in Jabesh Gilead four hundred young women who had never slept with a man, and they took them to the camp at Shiloh in Canaan."
Judges 10 - 12: NIV Version.
"And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children. And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man. And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
Judges 10 - 12: King James Version
And the congregation sent 12,000 of the valiant warriors there, and commanded them, saying, "Go and (F)strike the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones. "This is the thing that you shall do: you (G)shall utterly destroy every man and every woman who has lain with a man." And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead 400 young virgins who had not known a man by lying with him; and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
Judges 10 - 12: New American Standard Bible
It doesn't matter how you translate it, it still sounds fucked up!
2/22/2010 5:05:58 AM
Yup, none of these new-fangled 17th century bibles for you, no-siree!
Hey, why not just use the Catholic versio vulgata? That's 5th century, so surely old enough for you?
2/22/2010 5:09:09 AM
Nowhere is politics mentioned . . .battle agaist political correctness . . .
Do you read your crap before you post it?
2/22/2010 6:04:42 AM
I strongly suspect that this is not a poe.
2/22/2010 6:38:16 AM
"most every modern translation skews the context to serve their own agenda."
And this translation doesn't?
2/22/2010 6:38:29 AM
And they just keep marginalizing themselves more and more....
2/22/2010 6:46:33 AM
So why don't you learn Aramaic and any other languages the original texts were written in, go find the "original" texts, translate them, second guess the council of Nicea to decide which ones to include then make your own interpretation. Anything less would just be accepting someone elses biased liberal translation.
2/22/2010 6:52:55 AM
It's scary that there are people out there who aren't laughing at Andy.
2/22/2010 7:06:32 AM
I Read About The Afterlife
"No where is politics mentioned in the link but you went head and jumped to that conclusion."
It might not be mentioned in the link, I have no idea. But it is mentioned in the title. When they say CONSERVATIVE. Dipshit.
2/22/2010 7:22:02 AM
In my mind a Conservative Bible translation would be just as wrong as a Liberal Bible translation.
2/22/2010 7:24:49 AM
This is due largely to the fact that you yourself don't understand the context and message presented in God's word. So what do people like you do? Change the wording so it makes you feel all warm and cuddly inside
You have quite the shiny mirror there sir!
2/22/2010 7:33:06 AM
Just once I'd like to hear when this "Modern Liberal Bias" was supposedly inserted. 300 years ago? 500?
You idiots are playing fast and loose with something only YOU have maintained is the interate word of YOUR God. Hypocritical levels are getting real high in your world
2/22/2010 7:33:35 AM
If you get rid of "liberal bias" in the bible, then you will have to get rid of just about everything written about what Jesus said. You know, he was a pretty liberal dude what with selling all your belongings and giving everything to the poor, healing the sick, visiting people in jail, feeding the hungry, etc.
2/22/2010 7:34:56 AM
I still don't get which bible version these people mean to translate. From Greek, Latin, or Aramaic to Modern English?
Who are the language scholars who'll do the translation?
Or are they planning to re-write the entire thing - sort of, like the relaunch of Battlestar Galactica where Starbuck is a woman?
