Quote# 70977

A few years back, when I was in the US Congress, I took the Army to task for permitting the practice of Wicca on its bases, including at Ft. Hood in Texas. After speaking with a number of officers and military leaders, and meeting with several former military who adhere to the practice of Wicca, I was convinced that a belief in or practice of witchcraft, was not necessarily incompatible with the good order and discipline essential to a military lifestyle. However, one might legitimately wonder just how far such tolerance should extend.

The US Air Force, at no less a prestigious location than the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, has taken the notion of religious tolerance to a new level, in creating an outdoor worship area for pagans. The site, apparently sacred to pagans, consists of an inner and an outer circle of large stones. I’m sorry, but this truly is hilarious. Don’t get me wrong, if someone “has little or no religion and delights in sensual pleasures and material goods,” which is the definition of a “pagan,” then I say live and let live.

But I have to tell you, if I were in the Air Force and was being commanded by an officer who practices hedonism as a religion (another part of the definition of “pagan”), and who dances around a circle of stones in the woods carrying a lighted candle, I would be more than a little worried about following him into battle.

Really? I would think that someone who enjoys pleasure would want to survive. Someone who believes that there is another much better life waiting for them once they die has less of a reason to want to survive.

The same argument could be done with Christians, Muslim, Jews and.....................well, all the religions. They all have temples, you know. Your point?

I was going to ask where Bob got his definition(s) of "pagan" but the bad smell tipped me off...

What amuses me, though, is that in a lot of ways, Bob's B.S. from a few years back over Wiccans being allowed in the military led to the push-back that resulted in the stone circle being made available at the AFA. It's not the only thing, but it definitely contributed. So maybe we should just say "thanks, Bob!" It's not always that something good comes from somebody being such a jerk.

Unless She was hot. Just kidding, Its only sexual harassment if their ugly.

I was in the Air Force, and my question to you would be what does a Hedonist look like? What does a gay person look like? Do they look like Christians with a touch of Buddhist?

My point being whatever you are gay, straight, Christian, Jew, you really should not be able to tell one way or another. The they give you a command and you can say to your self, NO way am I doing what that Christian said! Did you see that Christian acting all Christian like, letting their Christian just .... you see? Especially if they are in the military, if they are wearing something like a cross (and are not a Chaplin) on their uniform then you may make a point, because its then you can identify something that is meant not to be worn on the outside and that of course can be cause for concern.

This country could stand to practice tolerance a bit more.

As for me, I'm not prodigious, I have everyone equally.

Me

I love when Christians claim they're oppressed and persecuted. A good majority of basic Wiccan laws is about Christian persecution. Heck, my spell check doesn't even consider "Wicca" a word. Poor pagans...

Yeah, since that is a far cry from a room full of hysterical fundies speaking in 'tongues' to the ceiling and rolling on the floor, some also with lit candles.

"Don’t get me wrong, if someone “has little or no religion and delights in sensual pleasures and material goods,” which is the definition of a “pagan,”... "

2. dated derogatory a non-Christian.
3. an adherent of neopaganism.

Dude. No.

No. much wiser to follow a bloke into battle who believes in dead people coming back to life, talking snakes, and virgin births.

Makes perfect sense.

Bob's head would probably explode if he knew that the US military permits the practice of Satanism on its bases.

Wicca is a million times more respectable than Christianity. You guys believe in killing just about anyone who disagrees with you. Wicca? Do what you want so long as it does not harm others. Yeah, Wicca is one of the few religions I respect.
