Just my thoughts on a subject.

If we consider abortion to be morally wrong on the level of murder, then it logically extends that we ought to punish the mother if she was complicit in the abortion process.

I got to thinking how law enforcement officials could prove beyong a reasonable doubt that an abortion had taken place, and the only conclusion I could come to is that women should be mandated to recieve maybe quarterly examinations of their uterus, under threat of jail if they refuse. Or maybe make pregnant women register and then if they "miscarry" then an exam will be ordered.

Women who have been found to have undergone abortion should be held as accomplices to murder, maybe conspirators as well, and then punished according to our preexisting laws on the subject.

If I really feel abortion is murder, then it necessarily follows that the people responsible for the murder ought to be punished. Retributive punishment will deter and influence women away from baby-producing activities, and hopefully reduce the amount of abortions.

Actually if anti choicers walk the walk as well as talk the talk then this would be a logical next step for them.

Instead of quarterly examinations they should check women monthly though. Every period is a potential spontaneous abortion.

They should get this out there. If more anti choice women knew that this is what they could potentially face (and a woman with a damaged uterus due to abuse, illness or what not, could face charges even if she's never had an abortion) it would perhaps make anti choice women see the cruelty of their position and the horrors that would be in store for all women.

I don't think there's hope for anti choice men. An anti choice man makes a wife beater or a rape apologist look like a champion of women's rights.

Uhhh, Fourth Amendment much? Have you heard of it? How about probable cause? Do you know what that is? Do you know what it's for?

No, clearly...

Here's a better idea: free condoms and birth control pills. That would eliminate a lot more abortions than punishing mothers, plus it would be a whole lot cheaper.

I Read About The Afterlife

Oh wow. This is original. The only problem with your ideas are: 1) Abortion is legal, 2) It isn't muder, and 3) influencing women away from baby-producing activities (or, you know, SEX)might cause a problem with continuing the human race.

@ Swede
When men are called in for inspection of their testicles two times a week, to check if they had masturbated (and thus killed millions of half-children), then I'll be willing to present my uterus for inspection too.

You made my day!
Lol!

I've got a better idea: all men should have to account for every single sperm they produce to ensure that not even a single potential baby is lost. Men will have a monthly sperm quota based on age and if they fail to meet that quota, for whatever reason - be it illness, wearing jeans that are too tight that prevent the boys hanging free or beating the bishop too often - they'll be charged with, and found guilty of, spermicide.

Well why don't we just take Landovers word on the subject.
Since life begins at conception (or, actually, when the male is sexually satisfied) millions of babies in this country, and tens of millions of babies worldwide, die every single year in miscarriages. The number of miscarriages dwarfs the number of voluntary abortions. Why isn’t the world outraged?! Why aren’t our greatest minds focused on this problem. Why aren’t our brethren like Pat Robertson, James Dobson, Lou Dobbs and Jerry’s son screaming about this?

Quarterly pelvics for all women?!? Imagine the huge medical costs the would cause. And, yet, I'd bet dollars to dirtballs you're against government funding of medical costs.

"If we consider abortion to be morally wrong on the level of murder, then it logically extends that we ought to punish the mother if she was complicit in the abortion process."

Fine. Now show why we should consider it to be "morally wrong" without bringing up superfluous entities such as gods.

"I got to thinking how law enforcement officials could prove beyong a reasonable doubt that an abortion had taken place, and the only conclusion I could come to is that women should be mandated to recieve maybe quarterly examinations of their uterus, under threat of jail if they refuse."

I'm pretty sure that would be a violation of privacy at the least, not to mention a violation of some human right or another.

"Or maybe make pregnant women register and then if they "miscarry" then an exam will be ordered."

Yeah. Let's start making people "register" for all kinds of shit that's nobody's business but their own. I hear that's what all free societies do.

"Women who have been found to have undergone abortion should be held as accomplices to murder, maybe conspirators as well, and then punished according to our preexisting laws on the subject."

We have no laws that would apply. See, murder only applies to actual, full-born, living, breathing human beings.

A clump of cells or a barely formed "baby" that looks like something out of an Aliens movie doesn't count since it's none of those things mentioned above. You can't really "murder" something that can't even survive on its own.

"If I really feel abortion is murder, then it necessarily follows that the people responsible for the murder ought to be punished."

"If" you feel abortion is murder? Who the hell said your opinion counts? Nobody gives a fuck what you "feel" is right or wrong.

You're just not that important, pal.

"Retributive punishment will deter and influence women away from baby-producing activities, and hopefully reduce the amount of abortions."

Yeah, right. Sure it will.

You know what happens when you ban something? That something becomes a black market item. There's no fucking way to regulate damned near anything. A new market will be created the second something is banned/outlawed/ceases to be produced/etc. Then all you end up with are a bunch of people who are unqualified to perform abortions doing it because there's money to be made.

Sounds like you haven't really thought this whole idea of yours through completely.

Fine, abortion is murder and those willingly involved in an abortion shall be held accountable for murder. I hereby put your god on notice as an accused murder for all of the abortions he has caused. He is responsible for ordering Menahem to cut open the bellies of all the pregnant women, the killing of countless pregnant women in the Great Flood, Sodom & Gomorrah, as well as all of the miscarrigaes women have experienced through all of history. Your god is a murderous monster.

Make up your mind, dammit! Also, just because you think the law ought to dictate something doesn't mean that it should.
