Quote# 71006

Just my thoughts on a subject.

If we consider abortion to be morally wrong on the level of murder, then it logically extends that we ought to punish the mother if she was complicit in the abortion process.

I got to thinking how law enforcement officials could prove beyong a reasonable doubt that an abortion had taken place, and the only conclusion I could come to is that women should be mandated to recieve maybe quarterly examinations of their uterus, under threat of jail if they refuse. Or maybe make pregnant women register and then if they "miscarry" then an exam will be ordered.

Women who have been found to have undergone abortion should be held as accomplices to murder, maybe conspirators as well, and then punished according to our preexisting laws on the subject.

If I really feel abortion is murder, then it necessarily follows that the people responsible for the murder ought to be punished. Retributive punishment will deter and influence women away from baby-producing activities, and hopefully reduce the amount of abortions.

Yet we fundies are against socialist government intruding into our lives.

Imagine the outrage if Obama insisted all women of child bearing age reported for cunt checks every 3 months incase they have had an abortion.

God aborts more fetuses in a day than all the abortion clinics in America do in a year.

Lol I think I posted in this thread. It collapsed into a pissing contest between a fundie and a feminist. I"m not really sure which one I"m rooting for XD

YOU consider it morally wrong. Fine, don't have an abortion. Others don't considering it morally wrong, so keep your nose out of their crotches, end of story.

Reading the thread over there, it seems Phronesis is not playing devil's advocate - he/she is serious and is quite rightfully being torn to shreds by the other posters. Damn straight, skippy, who wants to be treated like a sex offender (and let's face it, it's not about babies, it's always about fear of sexuality, particularly female sexuality) for being biologically able to get pregnant? As an atheist, it heartens me to see Christians giving this fundie fucknut misogynist a logical smackdown.

Edit: Phronesis is a mansplainer. I knew it. Complete disregard of the complexities of women's lives, convinced they've got the One True Objective view of every female experience regardless of how uninformed and hateful his view is... le sigh.

If I really fell that christians are a threat to civilisation then it neccassarily follows that the people threatening civilisation ought to be punished.

Then we should also punish God for miscarriages since they are said to be God's will.

Why not move to Saudi Arabia. They already have religious police that are much feared. I'm sure you wouldn't mind them probing your wife's/your own private parts on a regular basis.

You are a pervert even to think such a thing!

"Because then we would just be faced with another war to deal with... US VS THEM. OUR COUNTRY AND BELIEFS VS THEIRS. It would be all out chaos. Id rather have them stay here in the US where they are all subject to the same laws we are and thus their insanity and idiocy can remain closely watched and kept under control. XD"

You get smarter the shorter your hair gets, Deb, so it's probably a good thing you went with that. *grins and winks*

Seriously, though, your response there might be sound, but for one crucial point: if it were Us vs. Them, it wouldn't be "another war", it'd be just "a war". Who do you think pushes hardest nowadays for all these pointless armed conflicts, anyway? During World War 2, the United States of America was a nation that got compared to a sleeping giant. Nowadays, it's more like a little brat who insists on staying awake long past his bedtime because his parents haven't the heart to say "no" to him.

With the fundies gone, most of the conflicts the U.S. is in now would probably be resolved within a year or so (after all, if a wolf keeps biting you every time you jab it with a stick, the solution seems obvious to anyone whose head isn't wedged firmly up some fictional Jewish carpenter's ass). Then, if/when the fundie expatriates start some shit with their former homeland, we'd beat them into a bloody mess.

Ironically, it was a recent President whom the Christian fundies idolize, whom I'd like to quote here: bring 'em on. *grins again*

@ David B. "An alternative to Phronesis' suggestion would be to leave judgement in the hands of God, who is supposedly all knowing and therefore impossible to fool. Moreover, in his infinite wisdom he would never make a "false positive" conclusion of abortion so justice would be 100% assured."
Ah, but the good people at the inquisi.. erm, pregnancy monitoring centres would have their hands guided by god. Therefore, suspicion is proof. After all, god would not allow suspicion to enter their minds if the receptac... pregnant woman was free of blame, correct?

It has to be a poe, though. This is, almost verbatim, the gist of that campaign "how much time should she do". See howmuchtime.org. Mind you, not a bad poe at all. This post gave him away though:

"As long ad you don't personally advocate criminalizing abortion then your position is internally consistent and there is no problem here." (in response to someone pointing out that his proposal is unfeasible and should be abandoned)

The question "what makes abortion murder?" arises and invalidates your whole "argument."

WHAT!

Next we will institute monthly semen checks on men above the age of adolescence. No ejaculations are allowed that does not involve an intended child.
Punishable by chemical castration.

that'll learn 'em.

And if I really feel that preaching your horrifyingly cruel, bigoted, narrow-minded, and stupid religion is the primary cause of the most heinous crimes in humanity's history, I think we should be able to hold each and every practitioner responsible. You should have to go under regular psychiatric scrutiny and if you're found to be guilty of religious faith, then you should be stuck on a greased pole.

See... "I feel" is not a valid basis for lawmaking. Good thing, too.
