How is that fundie? The Catholic Church does have a long history of taking every opportunity to disgrace itself (and I say this as a cradle Catholic).

Something tells me that jgamer is unaware of the fact that, if not for catholicism, there would be no protestants.

The pope said you're not a real christian, so there!
Also, Islam is the real religion.

No, it just shows that Catholicism is a very big, centralized, organized religion, and thus much more subject to scandals than Protestant churches.

OK, well, if you don't believe Catholics are Christians, then you don't get to count them when you are trying to claim that the USA is a predominately Christian country. Fair is fair.

Or maybe that's God's way of bringing attention to the catholic church because it IS his chosen one. What do you think of that?

I'm glad to see you take joy in the pain of others.
How very Christian of you.
By the way, you are aware that other religions have their own sex scandals too, right? If I were you I'd pay attention to the beam in my own eye before talking about the speck in another's.

Fundie fight! Bibles all around!
Oh, and - dude, you need to realise all Christians were Catholic, a few centuries ago. Your precious little redneck sect owes just as much to them as any other. Not that I blame the Protestants, their philosophy was marginally more tolerable, but eh.

So then, by extension, all Christianity is a vehicle for the devil. Especially since all Christianity sprouted from Catholicism.

"Just goes to show you that Catholicism is not a religion that God endorsed."
And what do you think about all the non-Catholic Christian controversies? What do you think of the ones that have happened to your particular little sect, or aren't you aware of them?

The Catholic Church may be a corrupt, scandal ridden, hypocritical, money hoarding vehicle for paedophiles, bullshitters and frauds but that does NOT mean... oh wait that does sound bad.
That's not to say any other form of christianity, nor any other religion for that matter is any better though, you all have horrid little eccentricities

"Nice to see the Catholic church back in the news. Always fun when there is a controversy involving them. Just goes to show you that Catholicism is not a religion that God endorsed. Catholicism is a vehicle for the devil."
True, Pope Benedict XVI, before he attained such a lofty position in the Roman Catholic Church, was the head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith - basically the modern-day, PC name for the Spanish Inquisition. Cardinal Ratzinger (for it was he, at that time), leading such a senior department of the Holy See (second only to that of the Pontiff himself, in terms of authority, by definition) couldn't
not know all the exact details about all the RCC's kiddy-diddling priests.
But you Right-wing Protestant Fundamentalist Christians aren't exactly pure as the driven snow:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_evangelist_scandals
Right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity is a vehicle for those
worse than the Devil.
Oh, I'm afraid that all you right-wing fundies only have the right to refer to we Atheists and non-fundie Christians, Agnostics, Wiccans etc on FSTDT (and everywhere else) as purer than Jesus, certainly superior to God, and utterly sinless in perpetuity.

There is corruption in EVERY denomination. The only reason the Catholics get singled out is the fact that they have an organized hierarchy, which allows for large cover-ups. The same thing happens in Protestant churches, on a smaller scale. One small town preacher covering for another isn't as sensational as the pope -- who is world-famous, even amongst non-Catholics -- covering up a case of pedophilia, but it's just as evil in either case. Plus, people have Catholics under the microscope when it comes to sexual abuse -- you don't see that kind of attention being paid to other sects.
I'm not defending the church's actions, of course. If anything, I'm glad that these cases are coming to light. However, I would also like to see corruption in other denominations being exposed, given that Protestant abuse victims suffer just as much as those abused by priests.

There's often controversy around Protestant/mormon/anglican etc churches. You just don't hear about it because they're not as high profile as the catholics.
My mother left the protestant church (and began her journey to atheism) when our pastor (who was married with 2 kids) was having affairs with several parishioners (all of whom were married with kids). I was about 9 myself and was overjoyed I wouldn't have to suffer through service and the absolute torture of Sunday school.

Yet again, a fundy not understanding just what it is they're attacking. Par for the course, really.
Especially since the Roman Catholic Church was the first Christian organization ever.
