Being moral just because of the fear of retribution from an invisible sky daddy if you're not is not being moral.

Indeed, even if we could decide upon what is "good," no one is purely good. That doesn't mean that we need salvation and it certainl;y doesn't mean that your imaginary friends exist and can perform that salvation.

And this belief is precisely what makes Christianity (or at least the fundie version) disgusting, perverted and immoral.

This is one of my favorite quotes and it pretty much says what bdollars21-1 is saying but of course he puts it in perspective:
"In exhange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince men that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy man living in a natural, intelligle universe. If Christianity is to gain a motiviational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasures and happiness, and this historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, man is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destry reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation."
-George H Smith.

What a perfect philosophy for assholes. Be an asshole your whole life, make other peoples lives miserable. As long as you've accepted Jesus into your heart you're safe from eternal damnation. Never mind living according to Christ.
Gandhi was right, Christ was quite a likeable fellow. Christians like the OP, on the other hand, are dicks.

That first paragraph was distracting with the random caps, asteriks, and quotations marks -- I couldn't even read it.

I thought commiting any of the 7 deadly sins and doing nothing to make up for them was a one-way ticket to Hell.
But your idea that all believers go to Heaven makes it possible for the extreme awkwardness of a serial killer meeting all their victims in Heaven.
I'll stick to my crazy pagan beliefs that focus on doing good in this life and trying to leave the world just a little nicer than it would have been otherwise when you die, thank you very much.

Now, I may only be an apostate, non-believer, atheist but I swear Jesus had his own set of commands to follow such as loving your neighbor, not being a hypocrite, and selling your possessions to give to the poor. He also had some more ridiculous ones like hating your family and plucking out your eye for lusting, but in general his rules weren't too bad. The point is he had a set of rules and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have put them in the book if his message was "do whatever the fuck you want so long as you believe in me". But this is a perfect example of cherry-picking the document to suit one's own agenda and in this case it's "I want to be an asshole and still feel good about myself".

"That's why people NEED a righteousness other than their own hopelessly fallible self-righteousness. Only Jesus' righteousness (imputed onto believers) allows sinful people into heaven."
"Salvation is a "forever" thing, not a contract that requires constant renewal. Once a person is saved they can do, frankly, whatever the **** they please."
"No believer goes to hell. Even if they're murderers."
So no matter what you've done, as long as you believe in Jesus & his 'righteousness', and you're 'saved', hmmmm?:
Jim Bakker (Embezzler)
Jimmy Swaggart (Adulterer)
Ted Faggard (Condemning the activities of homosexuals, but secretly a homosexual himself, thus a hypocrite)
Kent Hovind (Not rendering unto Caesar)
Tony Alamo (Serial statutory rapist)
David J. Stewart (Paedophile)
Timothy McVeigh (Terrorist)
Scott Roeder (Murderer)
Just consider the above list of the 'saved', whilst looking at this:
With the emphasis on
Mental.
Your way of thinking only serves to prove that Atheists are superior to you right-wing Fundamentalist Christians. In every way.
We're certainly superior to your 'God':

Indeed, fundamentalism is the perfect religion for criminals, whether they're insane or not. The main problem with fundamentalists is that they want to teach all of your children their insane, unprincipled and unethical dogma.

That's why, when the rich man came to Jesus and asked, "What must I do to get into Heaven?" Jesus said, "Accept me as your personal savior."
Oh, wait. No he didn't.

Hazel Holly: Well...since Hitler was a Catholic, that little revelation would be more likely to get your mark-1 mod-1 fundamentalist to use him as just another example of Catholicism's "innate corruption".
Anyway...we need to introduce this character to the Jewish concept of Khilul ha-Shem: desecration of God's name. Basically, doing immoral deeds while saying that God condones/champions them is considered to make people more reluctant to look to God and his ideals. In this case, less likely to receive salvation. And this isn't supposed to be a big no-no on God's list?
