Quote# 71866

Do people who abort babies think about what that kid would have been like?

Additional Details (In response to statistics about Christians getting abortions)

Sez - completley FALSE information!
If someone claims to be christian and aborts a baby- they are NOT REALLY CHRISTIANS.
The bible says there will many False Christians

Non true Scotchman mixed with speculation. A recipe for disaster.

Yes. Statistically, a lot more future serial rapists and murderers get aborted than geniuses/philanthropists.

so a shitload of fundies are No True Christians, then, since abortion rates among fundie denominations aren't any lower than among the rest of the U.S.

someone needs to read "The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion"

Studies suggest over 60% of conceptions spontaneously abort, the vast majority before the woman even knows she's pregnant. I guess those women can't be 'True Christians'™ either?

so a shitload of fundies are No True Christians, then...
Of course they are. For all their talk about fellowship and solidarity, if they disagree in the slightest, the average fundie will not hesitate to turn on his former brother, and denounce him as a false Christian, unworthy of his holy and righteous presence.

Joe Blob

Oh fuck me... I know of ONE True Christian that should have had an abortion

4/3/2010 10:39:23 PM

Does the bible say anything about being lots of stupid christians?

4/3/2010 10:41:35 PM

No True Scotsman and denial. Fundie in a nutshell.

Agnostic Jew

I know a lot of True Christians (TM) who should have been abortions.

The Bible also says that if a man causes a woman to lose her fetus without causing harm to the woman, it's only punishable by whatever fine the woman's husband and the judges think is appropriate. It then goes on to say that if a man causes a woman to lose her fetus while causing injury to the woman, then the pubishment is an eye for an eye. So clearly, the Bible places the value on the life of the woman, not on the fetus, and no "True Christian". if Bible literalist is your definition of a True Christian, would campaign against women getting abortions or the doctors who are brave enough to perform them, especially if the women have medical need for one.

The Bible also says that Moses recommended abortions for adulterous women, so it appears that Biblically, you don't have a leg to stand on.

The majority of Americans support abortion rights, and the majority of Americans also identify themselves as Christian. You do the math.

"I don't trust liberal policy".

Right. We all know that after you've forced a woman to incubate a microscopic speck until she gives birth to a human being, you'll be at the front of the line in the "tea party" to demand that the government cut off all of the "liberal" programs that support her and the kid she couldn't afford, like welfare, food stamps, and Medicaid, even as people in your own family suck off of the other programs that liberals got for you, like Social Security, Medicare, unemployment, and COBRA.

@Giga Guess
Actually, division is a constant in most religions. The dishonest thing here is the fact that they use statistics that say that 2/3 of the American population profess to be Christian only when it´s convenient for them. If they´re not devout Christians who agree with them, treat that data with all its consequences.

Yeah, the bible says many many many inane and ridiculous things, but that never stops the likes of you, now does it?

"If someone claims to be christian and aborts a baby- they are NOT REALLY CHRISTIANS."

I really hate this:

Fundy: Christians never do anything bad
Atheist: *points to christians doing bad thing*
Atheist: *facepalm*

"The bible says there will many False Christians"

Yes there are. We call them Fundies.

4/4/2010 3:32:30 AM

No true Christian would use a computer to write this, because true Christians give all their possessions to the poor.

"In truth, there was only one Christian, and he died on the cross."

I think the adoption process is more likely to screw people up (mother and child) than abortion is.
There are an awful lot of birth mothers who talk about wondering endlessly where there baby is now, what s/he looks like, etc. and seem to be quite haunted by the thought that there baby is out there somewhere.
People I know who had abortions? not so much. Unfortunately, most people who had abortions don't tell random outsiders, unless they turn into rabid Christians. Then they will tell everyone. I personally don't know any of the latter type. But I know lots of birth moms and adopted children.

Yes, and if you look in the mirror, you will see one.

Ooh, an inappropriate use of Yahoo answers by a troll. IMAGINE THAT.

4/4/2010 6:35:47 AM

The kid would have had the same shot at being anything important in this world as anyone who's born already.

Most elective abortions are performed for financial reasons, so I know JUST what that kid would have been like to the conservobots who make up the forced-birth movement. A leech on the system. And his mother would be a welfare queen. And of course he wouldn't be able to get access to the social or educational programs he needed to ACTUALLY make something of himself and make "but the kid could cure cancer!" a viable anti-choice argument. Because you know, those schools are just wasteful spending when we've got Arabs to bomb.
