Quote# 71887

If you doubt the authenticity of the bible I suggest you do your homework and test that. Youll find that the bible is? the most consistently reproduced historical document with the most authentic copies at approx 5600 with the closest contender being Homers Illiad at 643 & Sophocles at 193. History is proven by consistent verification by multiple sources not fairy tales. More proof of the existence of Jesus than anyone else in the world many X over.

The babble itself is not proof of your invisible sky fairy. Try again.

"History is proven by consistent verification by multiple sources not fairy tales. More proof of the existence of Jesus than anyone else in the world many X over."

So close... then fail! Copies of the same thing don't count as more proof, idiot. By that logic, we should all be worshiping McDonald's hamburgers.

There is NO verification of Jesus other than the bible. Why did one single person find jesus important enough to write about him in his time? Why is his image not imprinted on any coins? How come there are no statues in his honor from the first century.

How fucking stupid are you?

So does this person believe in the story in the Illiad, then?

After all, if having the most copies of the Bible makes it true because it counts as "consistent verification by multiple sources" and the Illiad has the second highest count of authentic copies, surely that means it's true as well?

So why isn't this person worshipping grey-eyed Athena, then?

"I suggest you do your homework and test that"

I suppose you want me to do said homework on the internet? Google is Jesus real?

The koran proves the bible is a lie. And nobody has ever proven anything in the koran is not true.

I need a list of all those historical verifications by multiple sources, please, on my desk by Thursday.

First fucking page:

God doesn't realize the existence/understand the mechanism of photosynthesis.

That's a pretty bad start. Usually, when you open a book and see bullshit right off the bat, you can bet your ass the rest will follow suit.

@ Cy
So why isn't this person worshipping grey-eyed Athena, then?

>Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill.
She was the favorite child of Zeus.<

OK, she gets my vote, uh, except for the war part.
And the worship.

"If you doubt the authenticity of the bible I suggest you do your homework and test that."

Your Bible gets it completely wrong from the first paragraph and it only goes downhill from there.

"Youll find that the bible is? the most consistently reproduced historical document with the most authentic copies at approx 5600 with the closest contender being Homers Illiad at 643 & Sophocles at 193."

Even if this were true, which it's not, I don't see how this is supposed to actually mean anything.

"History is proven by consistent verification by multiple sources not fairy tales."

Multiple sources? Well, sure, I suppose. Unfortunately, all of those sources are Christian sources to begin with and all of the authors were pushing Christianity. So, where are the independent sources? How about hostile sources that mention these events and miracles? Why aren't there any sources for any of these supposed events that don't appear in your Bible?

"More proof of the existence of Jesus than anyone else in the world many X over."

The fact that I've typed this is more evidence of my existence than all the evidence in the world that Jesus existed as described in your Bible.

There are tens of millions of identical copies of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone in the world. IT has been translated into several different languages.

Doubting Thomas

Are you really arguing that the more times a book is reproduced, the more authentic it is?

4/5/2010 8:38:23 AM

Berny

The only documents mentioning Jesus are the ones making up the Bible. There is no conclusive mention of him anywhere else. Furthermore, the accounts in the Bible differ significantly on his lineage, his life, his resurrection, etc.
There is also no evidence of a Hebrew enslavement in Egypt. No evidence of a massive exodus from Egypt. No evidence of a Great Flood (and massive evidence to the contrary). Very sparse evidence of great kings like David or Solomon.
For a supposedly well proven historical record, the Bible fails on all counts.

campbunny

The Bible is not multiple sources. Its books were arbitrarily chosen by Church council, to exclude the more preposterous candidates. And yet, it contains stories of impossible events, requiring even more evidence than usual.

"If you doubt the authenticity of the bible"

Oh, I do, I do.

"I suggest you do your homework and test that."

No, you really don't want that. I've done my homework and I and others have been testing the Bible and have found it inaccurate and contradictory at almost every turn.

"Youll find that the bible is? the most consistently reproduced historical document with the most authentic copies at approx 5600 with the closest contender being Homers Illiad at 643 & Sophocles at 193."

The number of copies of something is irrelevent to its accuracy. Besides, you can't show that any of those Bible copies has any "authentic" reproductions of what the original scribes wrote.

"History is proven by consistent verification by multiple sources not fairy tales."

Just plain false.

"More proof of the existence of Jesus than anyone else in the world many X over."

Again, just plain false. There is no credible proof that the biblical Jesus ever lived.

This dude seems to assume that every copy of the bible was written separately with its own line of evidence. And that, wow! All these copies match each other perfectly! Like millions of witnesses saying the same thing.

Errm...no.

The bible is proof that the god of Abraham is a Chaos creature, and that Jesus was a radical preacher who was hung out to dry.

I read about the afterlife

I actually proved that the bible is invalid. It said that insects have 4 legs. I went out and caught a grasshopper. I counted the legs. There were 6. Now, if the bible can't get the amount of legs an insect has right -- I highly doubt it can get the nature of God correct.

Inaccurate reproduction can make any text worthless, but accurate reproduction is no guarantee whatsoever that it wasn't worthless garbage to begin with.
