Quote# 72069

At one time, we are told that God divided up the people and confused their languages because of their willfulness against his commands. Each language group went its own way.....and the earth was filled.

I've been thinking - isn't it strange that the push now is towards tolerance and diversity? Men are coming back together and all of our new technologies are breaking down the former language barriers! You can literally talk to anyone around the world on the internet in any language!

Is this the final rebellion? Is the internet the new tower of Babel?

If so, feel free to do your part by never coming on it again.

Well since your first story is pretty much imaginary it doesn't make sense that this would be the new anything.

Also, you are really stupid.

Welcome to the year 2000. Seems you survived the y2k bug just barely!

This one gets a gold star for being an interesting idea.

It also sort of necessitates an unbelievably bitter and spiteful God, which is fun.

To be a new tower of Babel, there had to be an old one. can't you people look at anything without the Bible? ....oh wait, RR.....nevermind.

4/7/2010 11:17:22 AM

If it is, may I suggest you get off the internet NOW.

Big Jilm

If you studied the history of language at all, any language, you would realize the Tower of Babel story is complete bullshit.

Doctor Whom

Yeah, 'cause learning to understand one another is obviously satanic. Are you sure you're worshiping the right one?

4/7/2010 11:28:24 AM

D

So being respectful and tolerant and learning about one another in different countries is disrespectful and evil?

What bible are you reading?, PS: What the hell do you think you're on that INTERNET board on? A typewriter? DUMBASS

....So understanding and loving people and uniting man under a peaceful banner is a sin? Fuck your God.

Yeah it sure is. I thought my friend and his family teaching me Russian was helpful but now I see you think it could be Satanic. Now I want to learn more Russian

Funny, the DS game Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor deals exactly with this: Since the internet has united people and broke the language barriers, God sends his judgement down on the earth, testing humanity.

I love that game, especially since you can actually lead a demon rebellion against God if you want. So awesome.

"I've been thinking ..."

Two things here.
First of all, bad, bad, bad, naughty evil fundie. Thinking is of teh debil!

And second, you're apparently not doing it right. Probably due to lack of practice.

So, is learning another language also rebellion? Idioot.

4/7/2010 12:14:07 PM

solomongrundy.

It's odd that people back then supposedly came too close to heaven by building a mud-brick and pitch tower but Voyager 1 is now around 9.8 billion miles from the sun.

It's almost like people once thought the sky was a solid dome a few hundred feet overhead with small lamps hung on it that could fall to earth...

4/7/2010 12:18:28 PM

Wasn't the implication of the Babel story was that God was *scared* of a united humanity?

I'm giving this one a +1 for the interesting idea and use of metaphor...

washed out by the -100 for insisting the biblical description of how languages came to be is literal.

Is it blasphemous to believe you can do something God cannot, like create a metaphor?

Idiot! If you lived in Europe you would soon learn that speaking English alone is hardly sufficient. Here it is not uncommon for people to speak 3 or 4 languages - or more. Besides, many of the languages we speak are descended from Latin, and emerged in the middle ages. So much for your Bablel myth. To anyone who wants to earn profit through trading, language is never an impediment.

Could it be you prefer intolerance and separation? what about man being enjoined to love his brother man? Or are you a plain hypocrite?

I've been thinking - isn't it strange...blah, blah, blah...

...Stop Thinking!

Jaahas, nämä luolamiehet eivät vieläkään pysty ymmärtämään miten internet on edes mahdollista. Kielimuurit murtuivat lähinnä suht kelvolla koulutuksella ja kansainvälistymisellä.

Anky

Interesting parallel. But it makes God out to be a douche, which She's not, but she's portrayed that way in much of the Bible. Therefor the Bible is flawed.

@Serph-no-Okami That sounds like an awesome game! Want to have!

You're right. The internet is awesome!

Only morons believe that all languages on earth exist because of the Tower of Babel fairy tale. We've since built much higher buildings than anything ancient primitives built, not to mention the International Space Station and several trips to the moon.
If god existed and felt threatened he would have acted a loooong time ago.

4/7/2010 12:40:48 PM

By all means, get off Babel.
