Quote# 72103

GODLESSNESS and secularism led to Nazism, Stalinism, mass murder and abortion, according to Anthony Fisher, the new bishop of Parramatta, who has used his inaugural Easter message to launch a scathing attack on atheism, while ignoring the sex abuse scandals besieging the Catholic Church worldwide.

God is dead, Bishop Fisher said, but not in the sense that atheists mean.

Good Friday is the anniversary of Christ's death on the cross, and the Easter festival shows that he lives despite efforts to kill him off, according to the archbishop, who is tipped by many to become the next head of the church in Australia and leads the largest Catholic diocese in the country.

''Last century we tried godlessness on a grand scale and the effects were devastating,'' he said.

''Nazism, Stalinism, Pol-Pottery, mass murder and broken relationships: all promoted by state-imposed atheism or culture-insinuated secularism.''

You know smart religious kooks with such a large child abuse problem best not be throwing stones.

What a load of bull! It's religions that have caused most of the troubles in the world. Secularism and atheism are probably the only chance for the world to ever be at peace! There has never been a war that was waged in the NAME of atheism or secularity. As a matter of fact thr nazi's had god in their motto. Anyway, read some history -- real factual history, why don't you! Another Godwin too! *sigh* Sometimes the stupid gets so painful.

I have a decent collection of Pol-Pottery. My favourite is the ashtray, but the candy dish is really nice too.

@ Musicalbookworm, That reminds me, a wise philosopher once said, "You shouldn't throw stones if you live in a glass house and if you got a glass jaw you should watch your mouth." - 50 Cent, track Patiently Waiting, album Get Rich or Die Tryin'

Oh yeah, but we can just throw sex scandals, inquisitions, crusades, witch trials, etc. out the window without flinching.

"GODLESSNESS and secularism led to Nazism, Stalinism, mass murder and abortion, according to Anthony Fisher"

I'd be very interested in seeing your full and complete explanation for this because, personally, I think you're full of shit and couldn't actually do it.

"God is dead, Bishop Fisher said, but not in the sense that atheists mean."

I don't say, "God is dead." I say, "God doesn't appear to exist."

Subtle difference, I know, but do try to pay attention.

"Good Friday is the anniversary of Christ's death on the cross, and the Easter festival shows that he lives despite efforts to kill him off, according to the archbishop,"

Easter has as much to do with Christianity as Christmas does. Being a Bishop you should know this. Then again, you probably do but willfully lie to the sheeple anyway.

"''Last century we tried godlessness on a grand scale and the effects were devastating,'' he said."

Do I really need to run down the list of atrocities Christianity has blighted humanity with?

"''Nazism, Stalinism, Pol-Pottery, mass murder and broken relationships: all promoted by state-imposed atheism or culture-insinuated secularism.''"

Again, I'd like to see how you actually connect either atheism or secularism to flawed political ideologies run amok.

Sometimes I have moments of doubt and insecurity, I suppose most people do at some times in their life. I'm thinking, "Should I be continue to be an atheist or should I become a Catholic"?

Perhaps if I write down the differences, it may help in making a decision. Hmmm. Let's see.

(A) Atheism = Don't have to believe in imagined beings, invisible deities, magic fantasy figures. other people's mad supernatural inventions.

Catholicism = Must believe in all sorts of weird supernatural inventions, Gods, angels, and devils and who knows what.

(B) Atheism = Don't have to cover up child sex abuse in order to try and avoid tarnishing atheism's image.

Catholicism = Currently covering up child sex abuse in a failed attempt to present a good image.

(C) Atheism = Is able to indulge in as much sex as one wants no matter one's status as an atheist.

Catholicism = Must not have sex if one represents Catholicism as a cleric. One's sex life is considerably restricted and censured if one is an ordinary Catholic.

(D) Atheism = Balls maintain normal human equilibrium.

Catholicism = Balls turn purple and explode unless some form of sexual abuse is performed if one is a cleric.

To be continued ...

Part Two

(E) Atheism = Only need to dress in women's clothes if you are a woman or are a man and want to.

Catholicism = Need to dress in women's clothes if you are a priest.

(F) Atheism = Don't need to congregate with other atheists to abase ones self before a man in a dress and a non-existent fantasy figure.

Catholicism = Do need to congregate with other Catholics to abase ones self before a man in a dress and a non-existent fantasy figure.

(G) Atheism = Can happily go through life without resorting to mumbo-jumbo.

Catholicism = Must go through life resorting to mumbo-jumbo every day.

(H) Atheism = Must accept responsibility for ones actions.

Catholicism = Can be irresponsible, confess to a priest, and be ready to start being irresponsible again.

(I)'ve written enough.

That's straightened things out for me. I'll remain an atheist.

The Roman Catholic Church was right behind Hitler during the Holocaust. Rome itself publicly supported him.

As for Stalin, Russia's atheism was a side aspect of communism. Most of the hell that was Soviet Russia was hell because of how communism was abused by those in power, not because of how communism actually works or because of atheism.

@freako104

Not to mention that the catholic church was completely silent regarding Nazi atrocities. Most members of the SS were catholics themselves, and none were excommunicated for what they did.
Commies on the other hand... damn those commies to hell!

There were some devastating incidents in the last century, to be sure, but I dint see any correlation to atheism in them. On the other hand, we tried Christianity for at least the previous 14 centuries (or longer depending on how far back you really want to go) and those results were truly devastating...
