Quote# 72269

(Regarding Homosexuality)

Christians aren't concerned with self righteously condemning, it's the fact that the legitimacy of this sin has a direct impact on every aspect of society...school, church, hate crimes, etc. It is and will continue to grow persecution of the church.

I don't worry so much about murderers, they aren't threatening the existence of my church. They aren't indoctrinating school children into their lifestyle. They don't demand I take pictures at their next killing or they'll sue. ETC.

You lost me with "Christians aren't concerned with self-righteously condemning," because, clearly, YOU ARE ALL ABOUT SELF-RIGHTEOUS CONDEMNATION.

"They don't demand I take pictures at their next killing or they'll sue."

Wait, wait, wait.... are you basically insinuating that homosexual couples want you to film them doing the nasty?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

And yet another one forgets his irony meter.

I don't understand people's problem with hate crime legislation. So... beating up or killing gay guys is bad, but like, not THAT bad and stuff, don't overreact and all...

I don't worry so much about murderers, they aren't threatening the existence of my church.

How I so wish I could tattoo that on your forehead so as to forewarn everybody about the stupid that lurks within.

Sisyphus

So homosexuality is worse than murder?

The hyperbole is strong in this one.

4/16/2010 9:46:12 PM

When has a homosexual couple ever asked you to take a picture of them having sex? As for the threats to the existence of your church, the biggest ones are the scandals, constant bickering with other denominations, attacking other religions and atheists, hate for people who don't follow strict social rules, and members failing to lead by example. You'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar, after all.

Regardless of one's position on like gay rights, or hate crime legislation or gay marriage or whatever, there is something seriously wrong with you if you consider homosexuals more dangerous than murderers.

Seriously, I think even most homophobes would think you are crazy....

@Sisyphus

What he means is that no-one wants to give murderers 'equal right' and stuff like that.

Homosexuals have never threatened the existence of any church, unless you're referring to their having correctly challenged the tax-exempt status of the Mormon cult for its funding and participation in politics to get Prop 8 passed.

"They aren't indoctrinating school children into their lifestyle."

No straight person can be indoctrinated into being gay--not even a kid. You must be projecting your fears that you could be persuaded to give in to your own homosexual desires.

Who is demanding pictures? And Christians condemn non Christians quite often. You worry less about murderers than homosexuals? Great priorities you have

Um...why is this just about your church?

Are all of these people closet homosexuals? They always have it on their minds, and they seem to think accepting homosexuality will make everyone in the world gay. Funny, and pathetic.

Christians aren't concerned with self righteously condemning

My ass you aren't...

My problem with it is that it shouldn't matter why a person, beats, rapes, and/or murders someone else. It's bad irregardless. We don't need to be sending the message that some acts of violence are more acceptable than others.

I had never realized until I came to FStDT how many devoutedly religious people are devoutedly religious because they believe it's the only way they can control their "sinful" behavior, be it theft, violence, or homosexuality. No wonder any perceived threat to their religion freaks them out so badly.

PlentyGroovy, for example, isn't worried about murderers because everyone agrees with his church that murder is evil. He's worried that changing public opinion will cause his church to change its mind about homosexuality, and he might be forced to turn gay himself as a result.

Um... what if a murderer killed someone who went to your church? Wouldn't they then be "threatening the existence of your church"?

And as someone else said... taking pics? I don't know ANY homosexuals that want you to take pictures of them doing it, including myself, but keep dreaming.

These idiots will never get it...

One mustn't frown overly much at murder if one is a religious cultist, indeed, to some extent, one must play down its abhorrence. This is because religious cults hold that murder might be a useful procedure in the furtherance of maintaining their spiritual front, so as to smoothly maintain their regular source of income. People who have sexual, spiritual and intellectual freedom are handy to many religious cults as being a focus for their pawns' hatred and to deflect their pawns' attention away from the cults' depravity.

Less worried about murderers?

Might want to check your ten commandments and see which one God was more concerned about...

Yeah, homosexual people are way more threatening than murderers. I mean, they even could invade your church and redecorate it!!!111 The HORROR!!! Compare this to a simple murder.

I'm sooooo glad you got your priorities straight. Next we'll have to deal with these godless shrimp-eaters..

@ Creedence Leonore Gielgud

The explanation I heard about why it does matter why someone beats/murders/rapes/etc someone else is that when you attack someone because they're in the wrong place at the wrong time or because they haven't paid you your drug money or whatever, it affects the person themselves, and their friends and family, but the effects stop there.

When you attack someone for being gay, or of a particular race, or of a particular religion, etc, then it affects the person themselves and their friends and family, but then it also affects all members of that group, indirectly; it sends a very firm message that they are in danger of a similar event because of their membership in that group. It's basically a form of terrorism.
