Quote# 72351

"I think there’s been a real level of being disingenuous on the part of the gay and lesbian community with their goal of civil unions... You don’t go ahead and accommodate every behavioral pattern that is against the ideal. That would be like saying, well, there are a lot of people who like to use drugs, so let’s go ahead and accommodate those who want who use drugs."

Your analogy fails. They're not doing drugs, you want to stop them from using Aspirin. And the goal is marriages.

If you wish to build a pedestal from which to look down your nose at others, the cheapest materials to use are sexual morals: by expressing your disgust at any pattern of sexual behaviour that seems to deviate from the absolute norm, you can guarantee that our innate shamefulness about the carnal will inspire an certain audience of people who will praise you for being capable, to the exclusion of all others, of spotting the immorality of non-standard sexual behaviour. But, ultimately, you are doing nothing more than trying to inspire shallow praise for yourself, while sacrificing the dignity of other people.

Huh. Bets on how soon Huck is found in a cheap motel with a snootful of meth and a cock in his mouth?

This reminds me, why is this war on drugs still going on? The drugs already won it a long time ago.

You don’t go ahead and accommodate every behavioral pattern that is against the ideal.

Heterosexual marriage includes divorce and remarriage, often multiple times. Just look at Liz Taylor or Rush Limbaugh. Heterosexual marriage doesn't always produce children, either by choice or medical condition. Just look at Helen Mirren or Condoleezza Rice.

Do those conform to the "ideal" you're trying to promote? Or do you just find picking on gays so much easier and more fun, Mike?

That would be like saying, well, there are a lot of people who like to use drugs...

Apples to oranges comparison, Mike. Granting basic human rights to a discriminated group is not the same as a democratic decision by the people to legalize pot.

1) Marriage isn't a drug habit.

2) There are good arguments for legalising licensed use of recreational drugs as we do alcohol and tobacco, but that's a whole separate issue.

Try using the same logic with barren people or people over 50. It will be fun.

Letting two people live together and be legally partnered hurts no-one. No-one is ever killed by the mere fact that two people were married.
A drugged person can harm both him/her-self and others around him/her. There are people killed by drunk/drugged drivers every week.

You, sir, have no Perspective.

Well, the simple fact that there's so many adherents to religions like yours, Gov. Huckabee, is proof that people are trying to accommodate behavioral patterns that go against the ideal of rational thought and honest discourse.

Well the prohibition of drugs has been such a resounding success that I'd recommend going back to the bible for guidance, specifically Genesis 1:29

"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

God gave us these plants to use without prohibition, who are you to go against God's word?

Who decides what the "ideal" is Mike? You? The Bible?
The "ideal" fifty years ago meant no mixed-race marriages. One hundred years ago, the "ideal" meant marrying people chosen by your parents.
This "ideal" is mythical.

Umm...no. Homosexuality doesn't kill or actually harm people. Drugs, however, have a bad habit of doing just that. That's also exactly why kiddie porn is illegal and immoral.

Actually, that seems like a pretty good idea to me. Ditto prostitution.

"You don’t go ahead and accommodate every behavioral pattern that is against the ideal. "

That's why we have separation of church and state. Your behavioral patterns are bad for the country.

The analogy is stupid, obviously, but why not accomodate drug users. Until their drug use impinges on my rights I could care less. It is just another example of a religious nut job like Huckabee imposing his view of how to live on others.

More people die from aspirin every year than marijuana.

And this asshat actually won the Republican presidential primary in some states.

He's also said that women need to accept their Biblical role of being subordinate to men, and that we need to change the Constitution to get it "in line with the Bible."

I'm guessing that would mean revoking women's right to vote, the reinstitution of slavery, and the death penalty for gays, for a start.

Personally, I don't see what's wrong with drug use, but it's still a false analogy because sexuality is innate.

ACTUALLY, if you legallized a lot of the less harmful drugs (like weed), less people would beging using them and organized crime would go down/

"That would be like saying, well, there are a lot of people who like to use drugs, so let’s go ahead and accommodate those who want who use drugs."

Or like saying: "A lot of fundamentalist pastors like to preach hate and fearmongery, perhaps we should provide them tax exempt status." Surely we don't do that, do we?
