Proud to be American
Proud to be white (doughy, pasty, lily white, no hyphen)
Proud to be straight
Proud of a lifetime of hard work

It rocks being NORMAL - takes all that self loathing pressure right out of one's life - presto!!

As member of the 2-billion-strong Chinese race I'd like to take offense with your implication that white=normal.

Though I bet Native Americans would too. Not to mention the African people.

4/24/2010 10:06:10 PM

Also he's proud to be a douchebag.

4/24/2010 10:07:04 PM

well that's just fine and dandy that you're proud to be all those things. Whatever makes you think, though, that anyone who is NOT all of those things has any amount of "self-loathing pressure"?

normal - doesn't mean what you think it means

4/24/2010 10:12:34 PM

You work hard, you're unehyphenated, whatever. But white? What? People who aren't white are abnormal?

Actually, this doesn't belong on FSTDT; there's nothing fundie about this. Just stupid.

Proud to be American

Well, America is a great country, but unless you've actually done something to improve this country you're basically saying "I'm proud of where I was born". To which I give a big, fat "So fucking what?". Being born is not an accomplishment.

Proud to be white (doughy, pasty, lily white, no hyphen)

Again, you're basically saying "I'm proud of how I was born". Okay, well whoop-de-motherfucking-do.

Proud to be straight

Again, being born is not an achievement.

Proud of a lifetime of hard work

Finally, an actual achievement. Though, given that it ranks fourth on your list and the three before it were birth related I take it you didn't accomplish much in your life. See, people that actually accomplish things will list those accomplishments. For example: I'm a Tae Kwon Do red belt, an amateur astronomer, a guitar player, and an avid traveler and I'm damn proud of those accomplishments and those are always the first four I'd list.

It rocks being NORMAL

First off, "Normal" only exists as a type in Pokemon, it doesn't exist in real life. There is no such thing as a standard person. Second, why the hell would anyone WANT to be standard anyway? It's incredibly boring. I hate people that try to be too ordinary. Everyone has their own individuality and nobody else can have that and any economist or collector would tell you that unique things are the most valuable and yet people would piss that away in an attempt to conform to a standard that doesn't and likely can't even exist in reality.

takes all that self loathing pressure right out of one's life - presto!!

I'm not sure if that's true, but what it does do for sure is make for one extraordinarily boring person whose biggest accomplishment is being born. Woo-hoo, let's give you a prize...right after the judges wake up from the coma you put them into.

4/24/2010 10:26:23 PM

Good for you.

Pule Thamex

"It rocks being NORMAL - takes all that self loathing pressure right out of one's life - presto!!"

Indeed, that's one very quick method of self-delusion, i.e. dogmatically believing that ones abhorrence is normal, although, the cognitive dissonance that causes unnecessary capital letters when typing the word normal never goes away. But, by the same token, it's a lazy method that requires little intellectual endeavour on the part of the one wishing to be deluded, and relies overly much on taking great pride in ones own folksy ignorance.

Some other methods of obtaining similar results might be the use of addictive drugs such as derivatives of morphine, hallucinogenics, fundamental cultism etc, brainwashing, indoctrination, poor upbringing, being an arsehole, being generally incapable of common human decency, or being captivated by the simplistic visions of frothing right-wing extremists.

/Proud to be American/

/Proud to be white (doughy, pasty, lily white, no hyphen)/

Hate to break it to you, but if you're white and American, you automatically come with a hyphen. Yes, even if your ancestors arrived with the Puritans at Plymouth, because then you'd be known as an Anglo-American. Notice the hyphen there? And why are you "proud" to be white? Nobody is oppressing you for being white; you don't have to struggle to maintain your identity. You're just spouting racist bile.

/Proud to be straight/

Again, nobody is oppressing you for being heterosexual and you're a member of the vast majority, so what do you have to be proud of? I'm straight, but I'm not "proud" of it.

/Proud of a lifetime of hard work/

Finally, something to really take pride in, although it's telling that this is the fourth thing that comes to mind on your list.

/It rocks being NORMAL - takes all that self loathing pressure right out of one's life - presto!!/

Lady, the only reason you're "normal" is because you live in the United States where whites are the majority (and even then, it would depend on which state you live in, since Hispanic-Americans comprise the majority of some of the border states with Mexico). If you ever lived in China, for example, you would NOT be considered normal. YOU would be the freak. The same would apply if you ever went to Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Madagascar, or any other country which is mainly (or completely) made up of non-white people. And let me tell you, there are a LOT of countries on that list.

White is not "normal," and it is not something to be "proud" of. Get over yourself.

4/24/2010 10:50:47 PM

Well, obviously normal is defined only as pertaining to your specific traits, so normal doesn't seem to apply to many others.

Also, you post on Moonbattery. How the hell does that engender any pride?

4/24/2010 10:56:53 PM

Professor M

In the U.S., being "proud" of hegemonic status (white, straight) and insisting that one's status (or lack thereof) is due purely to "hard work" are both rather strong indicators of an authoritarian personality style. An authoritarian personality is also associated with a lack of "self-loathing" -- because people with authoritarian personalities are quite willing to forgive themselves of any offense while blaming the victims for anything that goes wrong. So carmen might be a bit more reasonable to have a bit more self-loathing in that big empty brain.

4/24/2010 11:01:45 PM

In what alternative bizzaro world does posting on Moonbattery show you're 'normal'?

4/24/2010 11:03:40 PM

Proud of a lifetime of unexamined wage slavery

I tried being normal once. I didn't really enjoy it.
And presumably you were born outside of the states, emigrated there and earned citizenship? Kudos if you did, that's hard work. Otherwise, "being born somewhere" is hardly an achievement, or anything to be proud of, is it?

4/24/2010 11:24:10 PM

raoul duke

I'm a drug addict, and I resent being tarred with the same brush as carmen. :(

4/24/2010 11:30:12 PM

Carmen.. I think your head is shoved so far up your ass, when you fart, you taste it.

4/24/2010 11:32:07 PM

Wouldn't this fit better on RSTDT? He's basically going "WHITE AMERICAN POWER! YEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!"

That's assuming that he's serious. The whole "doughy, pasty, lily white" line makes me think he was being sarcastic. That's the trouble with online interaction, you can't tell when someone's being sarcastic or not without obvious cues.

4/24/2010 11:34:01 PM

Normal is such a subjective term...I do not fit most North Americans' definition of "normal" but I certainly don't loathe myself (used to, but that was thanks to a mental illness that I got therapy for). Nah, I just get frustrated sometimes having to share space with all you weird normies. You're just so...boring. Predictable. Easily satisfied. Blah.

4/24/2010 11:35:49 PM

I too am proud to be white and straight as well as American. I'm more proud that I have Pagan, Christian, Muslim, atheist, agnostic and Jewish friends, to learn about their beliefs and ways. I'm more proud that I have black, bi racial, white, Hispanic and Latino and Latina, Middle Eastern and Asian friends, And friends, of all sexualities. Oh and I am far removed from normal

4/24/2010 11:39:19 PM

Most people say I'm not normal (even though I actually superficially fit Carmen's qualifications*) and I'm not self-loathing at all. Nobody ELSE is going to love a freaky-looking Jafar fangirl, so I've got to love myself.

*I am American, I despite having dark hair and tannish skin and being completely ethnically ambiguous (seriously, guesses range all over the map) check off white on forms, and am bi so would be seen as straight if I was with a guy. And I work my ass off. Yet somehow? Still don't get to be normal, and wouldn't lower myself to that level anyway.

4/24/2010 11:41:20 PM

rubber chicken

Isn't pride a sin ?

4/24/2010 11:51:47 PM

There are 6.7 billion people, 310 million of whom are Americans. 80% of those Americans are white, and approximately 90% of those white Americans are heterosexual. 75% of these white, heterosexual Americans graduated high school, and could fairly be considered hard workers.

Buddy, your "normal" consists of about 2.5% of all the people in the world. If you want to be normal, don't claim that anyone needs to be of privileged birth to qualify.

4/24/2010 11:59:11 PM

You also forgot proud to be retarded.

4/25/2010 12:06:11 AM

"Proud to be American"

So, you are proud to be an arrogant bastard who invades, subdues and generally rapes other countries. You are proud of being part of being the biggest morons in the first world and most of third world.

"Proud to be white"
Oh, the unfortunate implications. This dude sounds like a white supremacist.

"Proud to be straight"

Oh, please. Just because you dig girls is not enough to be proud about. I have something worth being proud about. I have fucked about 10 percent of all the women on this globe.

"Proud of a lifetime of hard work"

Let me ask you a question: How do you feel being a bitch? A man chasing after the american pipe dream? A suburban clown? Kid, there is nothing worth being a middle class bitch. I take pride in traveling most of the world. I take pride in my ability to take corners like the Stig. Kid, those are things worth being proud of.

"It rocks being NORMAL - takes all that self loathing pressure right out of one's life - presto!!"

Being a narcissistic sociopath with delusions of grandeur and metric tons of prejudice is normal? Kid, you need to be punched to the face.

4/25/2010 12:17:57 AM

NORMAL is not an absolute, it's a comparison. In ancient Rome you would be an anomaly. In current-day Japan also (as to the "lifetime of hard work", you'd probably look like a slacker in the eyes of Japanese people).

I'm proud for my achievements, not the things I was born with. I can't help being born straight, female and Swede, those are nothing to be proud of. I am happy to live in a country with one of the highest standards of living and life-expectancy rates, a country that takes equal rights and opportunities seriously.

It's NORMAL to be human, to care for your neighbor, to look for happiness and love in this life.

If you only see Nordic-Germanic people (pasty white with blond or red hair and blue or green eyes) as white, we are the minority. If you mix in Eastern and Southern Europeans (darker hair and brown eyes) and Hispanics (olive skinned), we are still in the minority.
In what way is it NORMAL to be white? Other than "white people do exist, normally". But then it's just as NORMAL to be brown, yellow, black, red and olive.

4/25/2010 12:33:25 AM

Mr Blur

And, obviously, proud to be an ignorant bigot.

4/25/2010 12:34:09 AM
