I think parents shouldn't be allowed to teach their children religion until they are about 16 years old and capable of making their own decision.

"Religion should be banned"
Fact is, we Atheists don't even need to lift a finger. Fundie religion is doing a perfectly good job of destroying itself, Willy m'boy. Rush Limburger. Sarah Failin. Pat Robertson. Andy Schaftafly. Fred Phelps & his WBC. I rest my case.
"and those promoting it should be sent to prison for life without parole."
Fundie preacher - and serial statutory rapist - Tony Alamo already is. The only way he's leaving prison is in a box. He diddled little girls. Methinks the old lags & lifers there just love him.
He's now in his own Hell. And providing more ammunition for we Atheists to use against any fundies who dare to acuse us of having no morals. It's basically the intellectual, philosophical and argumentative equivalent of deflector shields.
Fundie hypocrisy. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Not really.
But it's high time we checked the crazier elements of religious institutions into the funny farm.

Atheist fundamentalism.
*sighface*
Allthough, the viewpoint expressed sounds so similar to the way atheists are seen by fundamentalists that I do kinda slightly suspect that William T Goodall might be a fundie in disguise, trying to make atheists seem bad.
Lying for jesus and all that.
Or, it might just be a fundie atheist. Which is very ironic.

Just... no. Religion can be an amazing thing. Look at all the poorhouses ran by Christians, up to and including the YMCA! (and YWCA) Seriously dude, you need to see religious people who AREN'T fucked up fundies. Religion =/= fucked-up-Fundie-Christianity. I'm religious, but I'm not a fundie Christian. I'm actually a Buddhist, and my faith has done nothing but good for me and those close to me.

Establishment clause, William.
Unfortunately, fundamentalism and zealotry go both ways.

I disagree with this statement, and I am all for people believing whatever crazy they like. However I strongly believe other people's crazy should not be imposed on others: To assert this I believe there should be laws and checks to ban the application of religion, not necessarily religious people, from certain aspects of society. The main examples that spring to mind are: Law, education and politics.
Religious fundamentalists (and arguably all religious people) are not rational enough to be in positions of power or law making.
Children should not have religion imposed upon them in schools.
Religion is the most dangerous thing mankind has produced, we should aim to irradicate it; not through persecution of innocent people but using education knowledge so people no longer turn to it.

Sidebar, what do you do about Jews? I mean, is it a religion, a culture, or an ethnicity? Part of the culture and the religion says somebody's Jewish if their mother was. Probably best to just send all the Jews to prison in advance, make sure the religion doesn't get out.

Holy shit!
I could tell from the beginning that Brigged was insane, but the more of his stuff I read, the more I realize he thinks just. Like. Me.
I thought he didn't understand that we can only grasp at what reality is really like. Then he told others to question their stances. I thought he still didn't get it. Then he said he questions himself. Constantly. Just like me.
Just replace {rape, abuse and related matters} with {religion} and we're about the same, but he has a starting lack of concern for his fellow man.
Is this what I'd become without empathy?
I'm scared.
I'm really scared.

The problem is religious fundamentalists will argue that they are being persecuted and they will insist that they have a God given right to excercise their religious beliefs as part of their duty in law or government. Remember these are the same people who deny that the Constitution mentions separation of church and state.

Concerned
Personally, I consider myself an atheist and grew up in an atheist home, but that being said, I do not consider religion evil or anything of the sort. Yes there are many intolerant and stupid religious people, but there are many tolerant and intelligent ones as well who accept the fact others beliefs differ from their own.
This quote shows atheists can be just as intolerant as religious people, and just because they are atheist, it doesn't make them right. It's actually a bit sickening to see many of the comments here agreeing with intolerance towards religion when they want tolerance for their own set of ethics and beliefs. It's hypocritical no matter how you spin it.
