Just decided to look at this one, seems like I missed some good fun. Just to get it out of the way, yes, William T Goodall sounds like someone to be wary of, very contentious, and judging on that one small sentence of his above, someone who I hope never obtains any political power. Someone who sounds like a bit of a prick.
Also, on reading through the thread, Brigged came across as an antagonistic big-head, one of those tiresome and humourless pedantic bores. Someone to whom everybody else is blind because they are unable to see the plain and simple truths as propounded by his good self of course. Is Brigged actually William T Goodall? DOS was his usual stupid self. Everyone else was pretty cool.

Consensus of Scientists on the basis of the evidence they have? Einstein should have deferred to Newtonianism?

People should be free to believe what they choose to believe so that those who are actually right can believe what's true unconstrained by those who merely think they have the truth.

Nobody's thoughts carry any weight with Christians, at least, not the fundie kind, unless those thoughts be the kind of extreme right-wing nonsense and cant that one can find on forums all over the web. Whereas DOS's thoughts don't carry any weight with anyone at all, except for DOS himself, and possibly his mother, if she can hear his feeble mumbling coming from the basement.
Still, DOS being a religious fundie and therefore not an atheist, surely disqualifies him from opining on almost anything vaguely resembling a subject that requires an intellectual response.

If we ban religion we become exactly what we fight. To ban it is to confirm every nasty thing said about atheists, secularists and agnostics.
Society will evolve beyond religion. As an agnostic secularist, I truly believe this.
Plus? Banning religion entirely misses the point of fighting fundamentalism. Fundies are the distortion of religion in the service of prejudice, hatred, discrimination, bigotry, etc. Religion is none of those things inherently.
Seriously: banning religion is an act of overt extremism. To me, the person that seeks to ban religion is the same kind of person that we would (and have) quoted here, just the other side of the coin, a fundamentalist in a different form.
Religion is not our enemy. Fundamentalism and extremism are.

Further on this note though, using DOS' logic, Saladin would be making a point. Any Christian idea shouldn't carry any weight towards anything outside of the Bible or church due to them not having the proper "out look" at it. Same with any religion really.
Now, I must point out that I was jokingly meaning this. Personally, any opinion is ok with me on an issue. As long as said opinion doesn't cause harm to fall on anyone, I am fine with people saying it.
