(On the topic of Pokemon)

I know some parents think it's "innocent fun", but to me for a Christian to have "innocent fun" with demons, just isn't possible...or at least shouldn't be. I know the child doesn't think they're "real" but that's just the problem in my mind...because as far as I'm concerned, they ARE real. Oh I don't mean that there are demons with those specific names and qualities, but there are demons and playing this game to me makes it seem as though demons are no big deal on the one hand; and then later, when the child is older, maybe old enough to get into things like dungeons and dragons etc. then the demons just may start to seem pretty neat...like what child wouldn't like to have those powers etc? Neither frame of mind is a good one in my opinion.

Then too the Lord says we are to avoid even the appearance of evil and this to me certainly falls in that category.

You...you realize you're about 15 years too late, right?

Yea, it was totally Pokemon that got kids into Dungeons and Dragons back in the 1970's. Oh wait.

News flash. Kids like to play pretend. If someone tries to actually summon demons and get magical powers, it has nothing to do with Pokemon or Dungeons and Dragons. That person is mentally ill, and went to those sorts of games because they were already sick.

Harry Potter beat Pokemon's ass years ago -get with the times! Actually, I think Pokemon beat the Power Rangers who beat the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who beat Twisted Sister.

The Devil better get some new spokes-people because his other henchmen just keep going outta style!

Having innocent fun with demons is a great idea!
Where can I sign up?

So Pikachu's type is Satan, is it?

FYI, the paladin class from D&D strongly disagrees with your idea of the game making demons seem "neat" what with them being based more or less on Christian crusadors and Templar knights.

If you want to join the cool kids, you should be hammering Harry Potter. Or even better, Twilight! At least that's one a lot of people will agree with you on.

Sheesh, what century do these people come from?

If you take it for granted that demons are real, it isn't the kids playing Pokemon or D&D that have problems with their "frame of mind"; it's YOU.

Cindy…sweety…

Let me see if I got this straight. Children involved in pretend playing, knowing that it is pretend, exercising their brain and their imagination, are at risk because “as far as you’re concerned” these little cartoon characters are real. And, this leads to further use of imagination as they get older and become involved in additional fantasy playing and puts them more at risk because you think that’s real too.

And we should be concerned for the kids… Okeey…

"I know the child doesn't think they're "real" but that's just the problem in my mind...because as far as I'm concerned, they ARE real."

There's a serious problem when a child is able to discern reality from fantasy yet an adult can't.

"Oh I don't mean that there are demons with those specific names and qualities, but there are demons and playing this game to me makes it seem as though demons are no big deal on the one hand; and then later, when the child is older, maybe old enough to get into things like dungeons and dragons etc. then the demons just may start to seem pretty neat...like what child wouldn't like to have those powers etc?"

Bitching about Dungeons & Dragons leading to demon worship/possession/invocation/etc. is soooo 1980s. You're supposed to be bitching about how Twilight will lead all of the kids to Satanism or some stupid shit. You know, since that whole Harry Potter thing didn't pan out for you guys either.

"Neither frame of mind is a good one in my opinion."

Your frame of mind is obviously not good as you seem incapable of differentiating reality from fiction.

"Then too the Lord says we are to avoid even the appearance of evil and this to me certainly falls in that category."

Apparently your omniscient god said this because he didn't want to become confused as to who is truly evil and who is only pretending.

Most of us into D/D, White Wolf, Call of Cthulhu, etc are not familiar with pokemon. Plus lawful good, neutral good and chaotic good are as far from demonic you can get.

Why do fundies have such a fucking huge problem with imagination?

6/25/2010 12:46:32 PM

Calm the fuck down. These are little made up animals that people fight with and train, not demons. Pikachu is a mouse-rabbit hybrid, Charizard is a dragon, Mewtwo is...well I don't know what the fuck it is but it's also not a demon. Given fundies' love of crocoducks and strawman evolution I'd think you guys would love the series and use it as a constant source of inspiration.

Point 1) Pokemon are more elementals than demons, being that they are based on fire, water, etc.

Point 2) Grow the fuck up.

For people who play pretend 24/7, with the magical man in the sky who grants wishes and believing in fairy tales, the idea that Pokemon may be real isn't a huge stretch.

If Pokemon annoys fundies, then I will make sure to buy some Pokemon stuff for my kids. Hopefully it will repel moms like Cindy.

Translation: "Pokemon is demonic because I say it is, and kids shouldn't use their imaginations because they might imagine a different god from the one I imagine."

Since when are the characters in Pokemon demons?

Do the kids these days even care about Pokemon any more? Can we get back to claiming that Spongebob Squarepants is gay?

Let's get your expert opinion on this, Cindy: Are all imaginary characters tools of Satan? Is Popeye a demon too? How about Donald Duck? Or Ronald McDonald? Tricksy, tricksy, those evildoers!
