I used to believe that the Holocaust really happened.
But now that they made it a crime not to believe in it, I'm not so sure anymore.
If it is true, then why do they have to force people to believe in it?
This relentless quest to cram the Holocaust doctrine down people's throat is almost beginning to resemble the Inquisition.

Neith, gymnastic chick didn't say that the holocuast didn't happen, just not that she's certain it did. And for all you know, she could be an atheist.
Are you really bendy?

Holocaust denial's a crime somewhere? That's bad precedent, but I can't say it's not coming from a good place. Here's some edits of the original post.
"Guys, they made it a crime to discriminate against people based on race/gender/orientation. If that's right, then why do they force people to not discriminate?"
"I used to believe that the finding of North America really happened. This relentless quest to cram this history down people's throats is almost beginning to resemble the Spanish Inquisition. I didn't expect this at all!"
Re: ShadowPhoenix's post
Holocaust Denial is a crime in Germany,& Austria as I recall, as the Right Wing British historian David Irving, found out to his cost, a couple of years ago, after someone recorded him addressing a Neo-Nazi gathering in Austria, as a key speaker...
Countless witnesses, physical evidence, and Nazi records would beg to differ. Denial is a crime in some places because it's deliberate misinformation that could allow history to repeat itself if it got out of control. People can be unbelievably stupid*, so as unlikely as it is for denial to take off, it could be possible.
*for example, Republicans would only be a fringe minority if people were smart enough to vote in their own self-interest. Also, the fact that there's a "debate" between the creation myth and evolution.
@Reverend Jeremiah
We do have respect for freedom of Speech (Article 5 of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany), but Holocaust denial isn't illegal on it's own, it's covered by a much wider law that forbids Hate speech and so on, as Volksverhetzung
Denying Holocaust is a crime in French Law to.
I have visited a camp, the Struthof, ans seen the crematorium when I was 6.
Since, the only idea that holocaust Denial and apologist could exist make me very angry.
The Holocaust was a hoax! The Reptilians were on in it. They told me after the Illuminati did 9-11. I know that none of these are lies because I have just had the idea that 9-11 was done by Muslim terrorists, that the Illuminati aren't an evil world wide conspiracy, and that Reptilian aliens don't exist CRAMMED down my throat for so long now, it just gets kind of suspicious. Ya know? If they were really "facts" then why would people bother mentioning them to me? Yep, they're hiding something...
The reasons it is re-enforced and Holocaust denial is outlawed are primarily because it was a henious event that truly happened and must never be forgoten or be repeated, and the people who deny it now are the same types Hitler and his anti-semetic henchmen were that want to ultimately demonize then irradicate the Jews from the planet. Also, outlawing holocaust denial prevents holocaust deniers a chance to influence a large audience into their persuation, because we all know, well hopefully, what happened when the Nazis took political control of a nation.
...the Inquisition.
What a show!
Here we go!
Where have they ever made it a crime to not believe in the Holocaust? I know it Germany it's against the law to spout Holocaust-denier nonsense, but they can't force people to believe it happened.
And anyway, it's interesting to notice how the only people denying the Holocaust happened are the same people who wouldn't mind if it did.
Nobody is being "forced" to believe that the Holocaust happened (unlike countless millions who are forced to swallow religious crap, but that's another story).
The Holocaust is not a doctrine. It is a crime against humanity of almost unbelieveable proportions. It is out of respect to its victims, and out of a desire to never have something like it happen again, that Holocaust denial is a criminal offence in some countries.
The Inquisition, on the other hand, was put in place purely for the purpose of perpetuation a doctrine.
Would you like to see the fucking photographic evidence and testimony from the war crimes trials? My library holds the papers of one of the judges from the doctor's trial. I have nightmares every time I have to look at them. You don't even have to come to one of the many, many libraries that holds original primary source documents, you can even find them on the internet.
I agree that making holocaust denial illegal is rather stupid and counter-productive, but it doesn't change the facts.
Of course the Holocaust happened, but I do believe people should be allowed to question. Questioning is healthy. Suppression of the right to question causes doubt and resentment, and creates dogma. That would not be the most respectful way to remember the millions who died.
Some countries have outlawed print publication and public speech promoting Holocaust denial in order to try to stop the spread of lies which promote ignorance, hatred, division, and lead to people being killed or mistreated, but there is no place where it has been outlawed to BELIEVE the Holocaust didn't happen. If history is denied, we are doomed to repeat it. Hence, the laws.
Freedom of speech, even under the US Constitution, is not absolute and can be limited where it causes a danger to others, such as a person yelling "Fire" in a crowded movie theater.
Kind of like how the US government should pass some laws to force FOX News to report news factually instead of spewing outrageous lies 24/7 that ruin lives (and the country) and get people killed, all under the banner of "news".
Confused?
