I'm not surprised that conservatives want DADT overturned. I do. I want it replaced with "Do ask, Do tell, Do dishonorably discharge."
The last thing we need are more people with honest-to-goodness mental problems in the military.

First off, homosexuality is not a mental illness.
Second, nothing's going to change with DADT gone except for people not having to hide themselves. We're not going to have a mass exodus of people leaving the army or anything like that like you guys seem to think.
Seeing as how you're unhappy at the idea of people with mental problems in the military, I'm sure you'll be thrilled to hear that mental health authorities agree that homosexuality is not a mental illness, right?

Personally, I go with "Don't Ask, Don't Give a Damn." It's none of my business in the first place and I don't particularly care what, or in this case who, you're doing.

Just shut up.
I propose replacing DADT with my system of DKDC (don't know, don't care.} Unless you are trying to date a person, whom that person wants to have sex with should be none of your business.
As per the "mental problems" issue, I propose that we don't recruit, don't enlist and discharge any Freepers as they seem to have mental problems.

Well, there goes my beloved USMC :(
Yeah, besides they're lousy fighters. You know, like Alexander the Great, Hadrian, Richard the Lionhearted, Saladin, Frederick the Great, Julius Caesar, Baron Von Steuben, and guys like that.
I'm so tired of this nonsense. There was at least one fairly openly gay person in every unit I ever served in or deployed with.
Unless your mommie kept you home all the time, you've already showered with a gay person in school or at camp. The odds are good you have a gay relative. You may well have had a gay coach or doctor, you just didn't know it. A gay person has seen you naked - your virtual cherry is popped. Now GROW UP.

Right, because you dismissing gays from the military simply for being gay is totally going to make them want to tell you the truth. As we all know, people are incapable of lying, even especially when it's justified. Your plan is absolutely flawless.
In case you're too stupid to tell, that was sarcasm.

So no fundies then?

Alternately Titled "Antonius' Ick Litmus Test." Antonius is given each soldier's detailed personal information, and if Antonius objects to anything, the sioldier is sent packing. Guess what, honey. Who someone sleeps with doesn't make a person unfit to serve their country. Divisive bigotry like what your displaying here is far, FAR harder on cameraderie than the thought of someone ogling your ass in the showers.

Oh, wholeheartedly agreed. Now, taking into account that the APA has declassified homosexuality as a mental illness (because it doesn't meet the criteria...not because, as I'm sure you're happy to shriek, the evil Libs are taking over, and are using that to destroy society as we know it, through vague, ill-defined means.) kindly tell me what this has to do with any of the above now?
I prefer the "Don't Know, Don't Care Enough to Ask" policy. Does it matter which way someone's pendulum swings as long as they can get the job done? No, therefore it is a waste of time and energy to worry about such matters.
People with honest to goodness mental problems do get discharged. But, there is no reason for homosexuals to be discharged as every one I've worked with in the military has been sane, stable and damn hard workers.

And that's what makes you a bigot.

The thing that irks me the most is assumption that there are no gays in the military, there are gays in the military and in many cases the fact that they are gay is known to others in their unit, and yet very few people who are actually in the military seem to complain.
Face the facts, you are nothing more than a heckler, cowardly yelling from the sidelines. And yelling at the people who have taken an oath to defend you right to treat them like dirt, no less. You say gays should be dishonorably discharged, but you are the one lacking honor.
And thereby speaks the typical bigoted Chickenhawk. My bet is you're all upset because those (being sarcastic here) substandard gays are braver than your sorry ass.
Homosexuality isn't a mental problem, but your bigotry is.
Do fundies hate vets or do they childishly worship them like super heroes? It's hard to tell sometimes. On one hand they figure you're killing brown people and that makes you a real American, a fulfillment of their fantasies. On the other hand they think mental damage or any kind of weakness from real combat means you should be left to die in your liberal, willful poorness and destitution. It's not fun worshiping gross people with limbs missing. I guess living one lie makes it easier to live them all but harder to face reality.
In some ways the military (in the lower ranks) is the BEST place for those with mental problems.
Would you want a psychopath walking the streets or would you rather put him in a uniform and point him at your enemy?
"The last thing we need are more people with honest-to-goodness mental problems in the military"
So, is that what kept you from signing up?
"The Gay" is not a mental disease. That book was updated. They changed that because it is not an actual disease.
But I won't worry about this. DADTDHD seems unpopular. But my system is my favorite, TWNGAS: Tell Whoever, Nobody Gives A Shit.
Yeah! We need more sane people like Brig. Gen. Johnny Weida, or Lt. Calley, or Col. Custer, or Gen. Westmoreland, or Maj. Gen. George Pickett (CSA).
Lack of mental problems has never been a prerequisite to service, nor has sexual orientation ever been proved to be a mental "disorder".
I personally prefer my plan: DADC. It's almost exactly like the current plan, with only little change: don't ask, don't care .
Also, you want to dishonorably discharge people with mental illness? WTF, dude? You're a sick monster. Why do you hate our troops?
"The last thing we need are more people with honest-to-goodness mental problems in the military."
I agree. That's why we need to DD anyone who thinks that a gay man in the barracks is such a huge fucking issue.
What the fuck is the actual problem here? I don't get it. Is it the threat that a gay man may see you naked and find you attractive? If that happens, how does that impact or in any way reflect on you?
I'm not gay, but I think I would be rather flattered if a gay man, or anyone, thought I was attractive. If he propositioned me, I'd politely decline and explain that I'm not gay. Far out, it's like talking to a five-year-old. Will you people ever grow up?
"The last thing we need are more people with honest-to-goodness mental problems in the military."
I agree. All the christianists should be cleaned out of the military. Mental illness and guns don't mix.
I'm all for replacing DADT with DILLIGAFF?
The last thing we need are more people with honest-to-goodness mental problems in the military.
I know someone who said that for years:

And am I the only one who, when reading the OP, thinks of the line from Major Frank Burns: "Imagine that, letting a pervert out of the military!"
You'd think you'd want their to be gays in the military because it means they're putting themselves in danger. But no the army has to be your private conservative club. Honor and all that. Bullshit!
It doesn't matter that they're proving to you that they're proud Americans willing to risk their lives for YOUR freedom to hate them. You don't see that honor and sacrifice in them. All you see is a gay person. And that is why you are nothing more than a hateful little bigot.
Confused?
