[Re: I'll read the Bible if you read my holy book]

to me that's like someone saying, "i'll take a sip of your ice-cold spring water if you agree to take a sip of my cyanide."

i'd politely say, "no thanks".

I'm sure one flavour of cyanide is much like another in taste and effect.

Then I guess there will be a lot fewer people reading the Bible, won't there?

Mind you, everyone ELSE is closed-minded.

Here's a tip: All religions are poisonous in one way or another.

But it doesn't say much for one's faith if they're so afraid to read another religion's holy text that they liken it to drinking poison.

The fact that person B has failed to drop dead, or be struck down by God, kind of disproves your cyanide metaphor. I mean, cyanide is a pretty quick death. If nothing's happened by now, it's not cyanide... you're just a paranoid loonie.

If someone respects your beliefs enough to ask you to share them with him or her, you could at least respect that person enough to at least ask about their beliefs as well. Neither of you will likely convert simply from reading a new text, and they're not even asking you to convert. Even in your point of view, the more you know about other beliefs, the easier it would be to connect to the people who believe them and sell your argument. Your holier-than-thou attitude isn't even servicing YOU. And your metaphor is a bit of an overstatement. Rean the Qur'an or any other religious text will not kill you, and the Bible is not refreshing.

If that were a valid comparisons, everyone else would be dead.

I bet if he heard of my college's event that held a Koran reading in response to the "Burn the Koran day" he'd have a stroke!

Correction, they're both spring water. You just THINK one's cyanide.

Is your faith so goddamn fragile that you're terrified of seeing another way?
