[Re. the mosque being built a couple blocks from Ground Zero.]
NYC's appalling Mayor for Life Michael Bloomberg has taken this opportunity to preen himself on the "religious tolerance" patriots correctly perceive as dhimmitude at its most contemptible. The city's omnipotent bureaucracy has a zillion means of stopping any project. They are letting the mosque go through because, incredibly, they want it there. They want America's face rubbed in the ashes of its dead while Muslim maniacs ululate in triumph.
The establishment media also takes Islam's side. CBS dismisses this 13-story tribute to terrorism as a "blink-and-you'll-miss-it mosque."
If you had told me on 9/11/2001, as I watched my fellow New Yorkers stagger northwards from Ground Zero covered in dust partially composed of other Americans who had just been murdered in the name of Islam, that city bureaucrats would approve this absolutely intolerable outrage, I would have moved away in disgust much sooner — unless my head had exploded on the spot.
It's impossible to believe that all New Yorkers are eager to lick the shoes of Islamofascists in the name of political correctness, but their liberal "representatives" certainly are.

"ululate in triumph"
I thought that was more of a jungle bunny thing myself.
BTW, How about a whorehouse instead. Something that celebrates life.
1. It's not a mosque; it's a cultural center although it will have a room for prayer. You know, kind of like a boy scout center.
2. It's two blocks away from the WTC site. Had the building existed pre-9/11, it wouldn't have been touched in the attacks.
3. Not all Muslims are terrorists.
Articulate and well spoken,
no spelling errors,
even familiar with the term 'ululate'
Got to be a poe. no-one has that much smarts and posts on Moonbattery
Shouldn't this be in the racist section? Or does patriotism count as kind of secular fundamentalism?
That said, building an Islamic cultural center two blocks from the site of a particularly bad Islamic terrorist attack _is_ asking for trouble...
Here's an interesting story about Muslim cultural activities:

Get that guy to speak at the new centre in NYC, and see Van Helsing's head explode.
(Edit: in case the link doesn't work outside the UK, the story is:
Thousands of young British Muslims have travelled to Warwickshire to take part in a summer camp to combat terrorism.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-Ul-Qadri, a Muslim cleric from Pakistan who earlier in the year issued a fatwa - or religious ruling - denouncing terrorism, led the camp at Warwick University.
It is being billed as the first of its kind in the UK.)
JESUS CHRIST! READ SOME GODDAMN SOURCES! THE MOSQUE IS NOT JUST A MOSQUE NOR IS IT BEING BUILT ON GROUND ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, this has been really angering me.
The arguments agaisnt this mosque seem mainly deontological in nature. They argue against the act of building a mosque rather than the consequences of doing so. I find myself to be more teleological when it comes to morality so they hold little sway. The consequences incedentally seem positive if used as the communtiy centre and inter-faith relationship builder it's intended for.
The case agaisnt the mosque also seems to have been co-opted by fundamentalists and bigots. The last I saw the facebook protest group there were people promoting the EDL, a known racist organisation. These kinds of people can damage the reputation of a cause regardless of whether the cause contained any merit originally. Those opposed to this do not seem like the kind of people I would want to associate with. And the building of this mosque is guaranteed to piss off the fundamentalists and bigots more than it could ever annoy me.
You know, I'm now living in NYC (still hate the Yankees and get glares in the bars when I cheer for my Red Sox but I digress.) A cultural center there is a good idea, why?
Because what better proverbial middle finger to extremists than to show them that we don't stereotype all Muslims for their actions and we still have the foundations of religious freedom in this country, it's also not a mosque and it's not on ground zero.
If we give into bigotry and hatred, we are no better than the terrorists that want to destroy us.
Why exactly is this here? Don't see any fundy-esque here. There are no claims about superiority of Christianity, or that all Muslims are terrorists, or anything of the kind.
I don't care about the issue itself, not being a New Yorker - but still, I don't see anything fundy-related in this post.
First Amemdment, bitch. If the NYC government opposed building a Christian church near ground zero for no other reason than it's a Christian church, you'd be outraged. But I guess it's OK if it's one of those pagan religions.
I really am tired of hearing about the "ground zero mosque," but on the other hand I really do enjoy seeing it rile up the fundies.
So, answer this: if two blocks is too close to Ground Zero, would three blocks be acceptable? A half mile? A mile? Or will you be honest enough to admit your bigotry and that you don't want an Islamic center anywhere?
For all the people defending this piece of shit:
They want America's face rubbed in the ashes of its dead while Muslim maniacs ululate in triumph.
"Van Helsing" insists that a community center managed by a moderate/mainstream Muslim group is support for the terrorist fringe, conducted by "Muslim maniacs ululat[ing] in triumph". This is anti-Muslim extremist language.
It's impossible to believe that all New Yorkers are eager to lick the shoes of Islamofascists in the name of political correctness
To a fundie -- either of the Christian or the jingoist GOP sort -- all Islam is "Islamofascism", just as all atheism (and all secularism!) is Stalinism and Maoism.
Clue me in. What is the logic of bothering all Muslims because a couple of lunatics who blew up some buildings happened to claim Islam as their excuse?
Should we kill all Jody Foster fans because one of them tried to assassinate Reagan? Should we kill off all Labrador retrievers because the Son of Sam claimed one of them was giving him telepathic messages to kill people? Should we kill all "Right-to-Lifers" because Eric Rudolph killed two people and injured another 111 at Olympic Park?
There is no lunatic more dangerous than a religious lunatic who thinks he's been given God's permission to kill people. That's true whether they're Muslim or Christian.
The original attack was almost 9 full years ago, I just realized I was still in school when that happened. Are Americans expected to revere and worship a spot of ground for the rest of existence because of a single terrorist incident?
Seriously, remember the tragedy, perhaps put up a memorial, other than that carry on with life. Build a mosque, build a mall, it really does not matter that much. Sorry if I am pissing off some Americans, but damn, there comes a time to move on.
They were murdered in the name of Fundamentalism. Most moderate Muslims were probably horrified by the death toll, as Islam also says something along the line of "You shall not kill".
Just imagine what would have (not) happened if your hero Dubbya had heeded the warnings he received about a possible terrorist attack, months before 9/11.
Confused?
