[[A public school teacher recalls what it was like for him to teach black students.]

What about black boys and white girls? No one is supposed to notice this or talk about it but it is glaringly obvious: Black boys are obsessed with white girls. I’ve witnessed the following drama countless times. A black boy saunters up to a white girl. The cocky black dances around her, not really in a menacing way. It’s more a shuffle than a threat. As he bobs and shuffles he asks, “When you gonna go wit’ me?”

There are two kinds of reply. The more confident white girl gets annoyed, looks away from the black and shouts, “I don’t wanna go out with you!” The more demure girl will look at her feet and mumble a polite excuse but ultimately say no.

There is only one response from the black boy: “You racis’.” Many girls—all too many—actually feel guilty because they do not want to date blacks. Most white girls at my school stayed away from blacks, but a few, particularly the ones who were addicted to drugs, fell in with them.

There is something else that is striking about blacks. So many of them seem to have no sense of romance, of falling in love. What brings men and women together is sex, pure and simple, and there is a crude openness about this. There are many degenerate whites, of course, but some of my white students were capable of real devotion and tenderness, emotions that seemed absent from most blacks—especially the boys.

Liar.

Everyone knows the black boy would never say "You racis'."

He would say, "Yo, yoo white bich, yoo be racis'."

Being a "gent" doesn't get you laid at that age.

EDIT: Reading through the comments section of that "essay", I think this site has enough materials for the next 3 months to use for posts.

You basically just described the typical behaviour of a... white chav. Whether black or white, they all seem to think they're rappers.

I think you meant "shuffles" instead of "saunters."
Also, you forgot to mention natural rhythm, fried chicken and watermelon.

You are actually describing the behaviour of any guy that age, black, white or checkerboarded. And the genetical makeup of Virginia, both black and white people, and Sally Hemmings demonstrate that whites were actually even worse.

As much as it pains me, I have to call this 'not-racist'. The comments tend to be, though. Whatever his intention, Marty Nemko has basically come out with a cogent argument for classism; that no matter how hard we try the bottom group will never become the top; whether white or black.

So, this is some sort of Sweet Valley High meets the KKK thing, huh?

8/30/2010 1:50:51 PM

I'd say that this isn't really racist.

This is the only appropriate response to this idiocy:

I don't see how this wasn't racist. Not only did he refer to black kids almost like they're animals he comically inserts faux-"ebonics". He makes racist assumptions like assuming a "good" white girl would say no to dating a black boy because he's black and that the only white girls who date black guys are drug addicts.

On top of this he implies black males don't feel love while even "degenerate" white students somehow magically do.

Even though there are a couple of grains of truth in what he said there were several racist assumptions and a clear mentality that blacks are inferior and that only inferior white people would date them.

Within the context that this is written it isn't racist it's an observation.

I've been there too. In the ghetto at a majority black school being a white teacher his observations are spot for a good portion of most classes. If you haven't taught in that situation or attended those schools you don't know what you are talking about.

Much as it pains me to say, I'm in the 'not racist' camp for this one - or at least, not 'necessarily' racist. There's nothing to say if he thinks their behaviour to be an intrinsic part of their biology (racist), or if it's part of how they were raised (not racist). As it stands, it's a simple observation. Nothing more. (Granted, the veracity is unconfirmed - but there's not enough evidence to judge either way on that.)
