I have worked in one of the Kansas State Mental Hospitals and those people in there with mental illnesses are NOT possessed. Yes, some can be, and I met a couple who I could tell were. But this is where a little discernment goes a long way.

I'm not sure. I'd be tempted to say belief in demonic possession is just Christian, not fundie. This person isn't accusing everything s/he doesn't like of being demonically possessed, so I wouldn't say that's very fundie.

@goosey - I think Mercy4Me is talking about "discernment" as in one of the "gifts of the spirit." Some of them firmly believe that the Holy Spirit has given them the gift of being able to tell truth from falsehood, or possession from mental illness, or whatever.
