This view is founded on the premiss that it is possible to 'covert' a non-gay man into a gay one. It only goes to show how ignorant Suzan is. I'm gay, all my life. But although I live in a straight world, I have never been converted, much as I desired it when emerging from my teens, about 50 years ago.
Being gay or straight is not something you switch between, nor is it choosen. Do you think I chose to live a life that compelled me to live a lie every day, for fear of what people with benighted views might do; always aware of what exposure might cost me: job loss, loss of family (wrong on that one! They stood by me). Things that make life worth living. Unable, through fear, to counter the frequently-spewed anti-gay hate that was commonplace whenever straights imagined they saw a gay person. Somehow I had the inner strength to live through this. Sadly others didn't.
I saw gay friends' personalities simply collapse under the pressure, and they killed themselves because they simply could not go on. They began to feel as devalued as they were told they were. So they ended it all in many horrible ways. Shall I tell you some: fire, rope, electricity, overdoses of medication, razor, railway train, water with pockets line with rocks - and some ways that are even more horrible. That's what hate can do. But being the kind or arse you are, you are probably laughing by now.
I know I am repeating myself here, but it can never be said to often, both as a duty to those who were driven to such terrible decisions, and to remind decent people that homophobia can be a murder weapon.
So, homophobe Suzie, your hatred may well have contributed to a death or two, or more. Who can tell? Be sure though that as a body, people who think as you do are guilty of the blood of their brothers and sisters. Are you your brothers' and sisters' keeper? What does your Bible say in its own quaint contradictory way?
