Quote# 75809

It is also de rigueur amongst the ranks of the politically correct to claim that the proposed location of the Cordoba mosque is not part of Ground Zero, indeed the ludicrous Keith Olbermann recently dedicated one of his toe curlingly embarrassing soliloquies to this claim. However, if not an outright lie, to make this dubious assertion requires the application of a significant economy to the truth. In fact the two buildings at 45–47 Park Place and Broadway, which will be demolished in order to build the Cordoba (or Park 51) Mosque were damaged by part of one of the planes during the attack on the World Trade Centre, but did not fall.

It will, therefore, be necessary to destroy buildings which survived the Islamic attack on them in order to build a monument to Islam. Some would argue that the deliberate symbolism of that act is even more malevolent.

Once again, of course, it is necessary to ignore the uncomfortable facts which do not fit the lies of political correctness.

They'll say anything to make it seem like the "Mosque" is in "Ground Zero."

Allegory for Jesus

Does that mean that any place that got shrapnel or anything of that sort in it on 9-11 counts as Ground Zero then? That's the only way I can make sense of this complaint. The facts are only uncomfortable because you're making them contort into such awkward shapes, Ms. Sarah.

It is also di riguer amongst the ranks of the mentally hanidcapped to continually engage in ludicrous and toe curling solloquies that make such dubious claims without any significant economy to the truth.

It is also di riguer for ignorant seminarians to try and inject as much needlessly awkward and highly contextualized terminology learned in seminary as is possible in the hopes that the false semblance of intelligence will somehow validate a completely irrational position. You forgot words like soteriology, pneumatology and heilsgeschichte...

Freethink

@ Sarah:

Keith Olbermann has more intelligence in his little fingernail or even one of his nose hairs than you do. Your attitude belies your attempt to sound intelligent. Only an ignorant bigot would express such drivel. You are basically a Troglodyte in homo sapiens clothing. Here's a word for you to look up, "Constitution". Try reading that some time.

Ayuh. Because Christians NEVER built churches on or near sites of THEIR battles or conquests....

to our American friends, MoA is English, and not someone we're proud of! She probably has never heard of the US constitution.

Strangely enough she's not homophobic, but she has a truly big down on Islam. It is possible she's lost someone to islamic terrorism or war.

It's pretty sad when you'd rather want a derelict, vacant, rotting building than a community center.

How is this still a controversy?

I'm writing my memoirs.

They're going to be called Doctor Fishcake or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Enjoy the Batshit Insanity of Sarah Maid of Albion.

Sarah Maid of Albion must consider the former site of a Burlington Coat Factory a sacred place.

Maybe she has fetish for winter clothing, idk...

Why are they harping on about this community center? People are dying from lack of clean fresh-water in Pakistan, and a group of miners are trapped inside a mine in Chile and will probably be stuck there until Christmas.
Worry about people in dire need of help instead of a building.

There are no Republican or NRA-affiliated buildings in Oklahoma City, near where the Alfred P. Murrah Building, I presume?

...of course, the people building the community center in question are hardly the type to celebrate al-Qa'ida's terrorist attacks; in the Middle East they're a frequent target of same.

People, it's been 9 years since 9/11. Maybe try to tone down the butthurt and irrational hatred towards islam down a bit?

Hey look. Even if we assume that all this paranoia of yours is based on some real threat, shouldn't your faith be strong enough to just not care about this? Pardon me for saying this, but all this bellyaching about a building dedicated to the muslim community suggests that you christians are a fairly spiritually weak bunch. Yaknowatimsayin?

Translation: THEY ARE DESTROYING AMERICAN BUILDINGS! PANIC! EVERYBODY PANIC!

Would you be panicking if those buildings were demolished by True Christians? No: "oh, darn, looks like they have all of the proper permits and all. Go right ahead and blow 'em up."

Are you arguing that Muslims should be completely banned from US demolition industry? THEY ARE BLOWING UP AMERICAN BUILDINGS! THE SYMBOLISM IS OBVIOUS!

Why such suspicion, when things are only superficially related? I was under the guesstimated impression that most of the surviving Romanov family members would not react suspiciously to suggestion "hey, I just want to take a nice group photograph of you guys". Especially if the photographers are not from the Russian government. Especially if the photographers don't insist them to be taken to the basement first.

Clearly allowing an ex-Burlington Coat Factory to sit and rot in the middle of a large, busy city, is FAR better than letting someone build a new community center on the site--ESPECIALLY if they're Muslim.

Heard this already. It basically makes the entire island of Manhattan "Ground Zero" when taken to its logical conclusion.

Sarah, Maid of Albion, seems to have fallen prey to the hoax currently circulating that claims the buildings being demolished for the Islamic cultural centre we hit by shrapnel from the collapsing World Trade Center towers.
It's a bullshit claim but it has all the Tea Partier morons' knickers in a twist.

Not a mosque. Shut the fuck up.

Major world salad anyways.

"It is forgotten that we are first, Americans. I am asking all of us on both sides to take one step back from the edge. Then another step. And another. However many it takes to get back to that place where we are all Americans. Different, imperfect, diverse, but one nation, indivisible. This cycle of tragedy-driven hatred must stop. Because so much more connects us than that which divides us. And because tragedy has been and will always be with us. Somewhere right now evil people are planning evil things. All of us will do everything meaningful, everything we can do to prevent it. But each horrible act can't become an axe for opportunists to cleave the very bill of rights that binds us. America must stop this predictable pattern of reaction, when an isolated terrible event occurs." -- Charlton Heson, address to Denver NRA convention (a short time after Columbine).

What is this Cordoba Mosque Sarah speaks of and where on Ground Zero is it being built?

After the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland, my motorcycle was covered in a fine layer of ash, but it did survive the eruption. Does that mean that Wales is now at Eyjafjallajökull? Perhaps a foothill of it?

And who knows how many atoms from the World Trade center spread to other places. Also, the fuel trails from the airplanes count as part of ground zero too as does the airport the planes came from and pretty much anything the terrorists and victims ever touched. I guess to be perfectly safe we shouldn't let Muslims build any buildings anywhere, huh?
