Come over here and let me enslave you. I promise I'll do it biblically. Then we'll see if you keep that attitude.
...I can beat him, right? Bible says so?

"Equivocating old testament Hebrew slavery to “New World” slavery is like saying marriage and gay marriage are the same."
I love this sentence for so many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that he has no idea what "equivocate" means.
9/5/2010 7:31:09 PM
Pray tell me Matt....how does one do slavery not for selfish gain? If the Europeons "twisted" it for their own gain, perhaps those in the middle east (where jeebus is from) would be correct in the way gawd intended. So would slaves be OK in the middle east? As long as they did it the way gawd intended?
9/5/2010 7:31:15 PM
Nope, nothing evil about that at all.
9/5/2010 7:34:05 PM
Marriage and gay marriage are the same! They're both about the process by which two people pair up, share living expenses, and eventually stop having sex with each other.
9/5/2010 7:37:19 PM
I wish I had a time machine to shove you in, so that you may experience some good Old Testament slavery first hand, bud.
And love the way this post managed to talk about slavery, gay marriage, sex before marriage, and divorce, all in a few short lines. Impressive.
9/5/2010 7:45:16 PM
OK, Matt. So I can rape your sister, right? I mean, I'll give your dad 40 shekels and all afterward.
9/5/2010 7:47:50 PM
Slavery was bad when the Romans did it too. Slavery is invariably bad, because you are effectively stealing labor and forcing other people to do things they don't want to do.
The enslaving of Africans by Europeans in the mid-second-millennium was not a new thing; the only new part was the particularly vehement racial component, and even that wasn't THAT new.
9/5/2010 8:05:52 PM
"I can beat him, right? Bible says so?"
Yes, but if dies within three days, you have to be punished.
And you can only keep him for six years. Make sure to give him a wife and let him ave kids. That way, you can keep them, and maybe he will decide to stay a slave with them, instead of going free.

Allegory for Jesus
So then, there is a good, non-twisted, non-selfish way to own another person and make them do work for you? Please, do tell.
9/5/2010 9:20:57 PM
so if slavery is good, then you won't mind if I enslave you, right?
9/5/2010 9:36:58 PM
Wait a minute. Hebrew slavery was OK?
Someone really missed the point of Moses, didn't they?
And considering the hard on most of you have for Genesis being 100% true (both versions) and the 10 commandments (even if a line about men lying together seems to overrule all of them), you'd think they would get Moses pretty well.
9/5/2010 9:54:32 PM
What!? Huh!? How about I rip your face off. I promise I'll do it like the Hebrews did so it will be ok.
9/5/2010 10:03:59 PM
David F Mayer
Sorry. Slavery is ENTIRELY EVIL.
If you don't believe me, then try being a slave for a few years, and you will know how evil it really is.
9/5/2010 10:06:03 PM
I don't even know what do with this but weep for humanity.
9/5/2010 10:25:39 PM
Non-sequiturs right the god damn everywhere.
9/5/2010 10:28:54 PM
Are you seriously defending slavery? So, tell me where you got your time machine.
9/6/2010 2:08:51 AM
Slavery is always bad, because it takes away the freedom from people.
No, sex is not bad, and neither extra-marital sex nor homosexuality is doing it the wrong way.
Getting divorced is not bad or evil, it can be a good thing for all involved.
Marriage and gay marriage ARE the same, and slavery is slavery. No big difference at all.
The only bad things here are your analogies, Matt.
9/6/2010 2:38:18 AM
Analogy fail. Try equating slavery to something similar (murder or rape, say) and see if your crap analogy still stands up. Comparing it to sex is utterly pointless. One thing is a social evil, the other is a private act between individuals (usually two but none of your fucking business if it's an orgy of twelve), whether married, gay, both, or neither.
9/6/2010 3:01:31 AM
Right, so are you saying that evolution is an observed phenomenon?
9/6/2010 3:50:50 AM
Yes, how good it's to be considered an object..........wait.
9/6/2010 4:05:02 AM
Biblical slavery isn't evil because the people who wrote the Bible say it isn't evil. Got it.
9/6/2010 7:03:17 AM
So even if it's beyond scummy and a horrible thing to do, it's still okay of god says you can. FUCK YOU!
9/6/2010 7:13:01 AM
Why do you fundies even try to defend this shit? Why why WHY?!
9/6/2010 7:17:20 AM
Did you even bother to read the book of Moses?
Judging by the narrative, he didn't seem to agree that biblical slavery was all that awesome.
