"Hare Krishna" is not a sect-name.

Had waiting1 lived in France between 1870 and 1940, he would have read about how jews are secretly raising armys in France to support a German invasion that is coming any day now. Jews spying for Germany and Spain. And lurid storys of jews feeding on the blood of christian children.
He could have read any British newspaper published before 1944, and seen sensationalistic accounts of Irish catholics abducting protestant maidens to ravish and violate.
The first rule in waging a propaganda war against an out group, is that you MUST demonize that group.
You NEVER suggest that the target group is composed of fellow human beings.

Yeah, remember what all those evile Muslims were doing in Northern Ireland until just a couple of decades ago!

The Lazy One
Actually, radical Zionists have been known to kill Palestinian children, but because you're from Rapture Ready, where every single Israeli is perfectly innocent of any wrongdoing and every single Palestinian is a horrible evil monster of a person, I wouldn't expect you to know that.

Hate to tell you, waiting1, but Buddhists, unlike everyone else, have no excuse whatsoever to engage in violence. All of our scriptures forbid us from harming people in any way. Not like the Bible or the Koran. Therefore, a Buddhist extremist is, by definition, a deviant Buddhist.

Translation to english: "I get my opinions from sensationalist crap on television."

What about the American missionaries who are passing out Buybulls in the ruins of Iraq's cities? You know? The cities that we "bombed back to the stone age". Personally, I find it offensive beyond words that they are passing out Buybulls to people who haven't had running water for over seven years due to the actions of the U.S. military.
9/6/2010 9:19:37 AM
We do hear about Christians killing dozens of people every day. We just call them "allied coalition troops."
9/6/2010 9:27:43 AM
Another RR thinking cap failure.
9/6/2010 9:50:29 AM
Soi-disant Christians are right now killing children as witches, bombing muslims innocent of any harm to the US, to take away weapons that weren't there, attempting to take away their right to rebuild their own church in New York City, persecuting their homosexual neighbours, conspiring to kill abortion doctors and government agents, verbally encouraging the murder of your president, and generally acing like the superstitous assholes that you are.
The rest of the world will come up with much higher figures than you do, given the way you attack the mote in your brother's eyes while ignoring the beam in your own.
9/6/2010 10:07:39 AM
Zionists would be in the Middle East with their violence. There are Christians who bomb abortion clinics and gay bars. Eric Roudolph. Army of God. Either of those ring a bell?
9/6/2010 10:20:50 AM
Religious fanatics who believe they have God's permission to kill people are the most dangerous people on earth. Whether they're Muslims or Christians or have their own made-up religion isn't the point.
9/6/2010 10:31:00 AM
Christian terrorists have been taking innocent lives within the United States for ages. People of all faiths in the Middle East are used to regularly blowing each other up. And "new religious movements" have a nasty track record of violence as well (Aum Shinrikyo in Japan comes to mind). Islam is NOT alone in violence.
It's really fairly simple. It doesn't matter what the religion itself promotes--if its adherents themselves are peaceful, they can coexist with the rest of us. If they are violent, we will respond in kind--to their violence, not to their religion.
@Swede: Pretty sure waiting1 was making a pun: blowing people up, leaving them in "pieces." Just like the morbid joke "rest in pieces." But hey, maybe I'm giving 'em too much credit...
9/6/2010 10:42:59 AM
What about the Jewish fundamentalist in Israel who shot up the gay youth shelter?
The conservative Christians bombing abortion clinics?
The Buddhist monks setting themselves on fire in protest?
The Hare Krishnas being annoying as hell?
9/6/2010 10:45:01 AM
Sadly, not even Buddhism is free from being abused by violent people. Look at the junta in Myanmar / Burma.
Is there any major religious tradition that hasn't been misused to justify violence? Maybe the Jainists? Or the Quakers?
9/6/2010 10:47:50 AM
"Conservative Christians kill 50 on Army base "
Ireland says "Hi".

Could you learn another song? "Them Guys is Mean" is getting very boring.

(42% of Americans say Islam is not more violent than other faiths)
Why the hell are you complaining? 42% isn't even a majority. This is actually bad, it means that less than half of Americans are intelligent enough to realize that people of any religious faith can be violent, that the minority of violent Muslims does not represent the religion as a whole, and that Islam's actual teachings don't advocate any more violence than Christianity's actual teachings do.
I believe the Survey is rigged
Are you saying that there can't possibly be that many people in America that disagree with you? Could you be any more full of yourself, you piece of shit?
Besides, the survey isn't even saying that it's true that Islam is not more violent — it's just saying that almost half of Americans BELIEVE that. What's so unbelieveable about that? After all, people can believe what they want to believe. Why does it amaze you more that less than half of Americans believe something that's plausible and testable (Islam is no more violent than other faiths), than that more than 3/4 of Americans believe something that's unlikely, untestable, and unobserved by anybody ever (God)? That's some screwed up reasoning skills you have there.
9/6/2010 11:28:16 AM
Because when we watch TV we are not hearing on a daily basis:
Today radical Zionists blew up a child care.
Conservative Christians kill 50 on Army base
Hare Krishnas scalped elderly in nursing home
Buddhists car bombed local schools
That's true, but I also never hear about Islamic people doing any of those things. That's partly because I don't watch the news much, but it's also partly because I live in Canada. I'm pretty sure religious violence is way more prevalent in America than in Canada (again, don't quote me), and I don't hear about stuff in America unless it's big news internationally. Like, you know, 9/11.
And you're also assuming that the news isn't biased. If you think the news is impartial, you must be the most naïve person in the developed world. No wonder you have no critical thinking skills!
Oh yeah, one of my best friends is a Muslim, and out of all my friends, she's the most mature and the least aggressive. She's never once tried to force her Islamic beliefs on anyone, by violent means or otherwise. She doesn't even talk about her religious beliefs unless it will affect us, like if she's fasting for Ramadan (which, incidentally, is ending soon...) and therefore can't come to a party. She doesn't give a crap that I have no religious belief, and she doesn't give a crap that pretty much all our other friends are either Hindu or atheist.
I have another friend who's a Muslim, although we're not super-close. She just moved here a few months ago, but she's not violent either, and she doesn't try to force her beliefs on us. She's a good person.
I love my friends. They mean a lot to me. Don't you dare lump them together with all the violent Muslims in the world, you piece of shit.
9/6/2010 11:33:57 AM
Islam is TOTALLY more violent than other faiths. Who is it that is stoning women to death and giving people 100 lashes and ordering a man's spine to be severed because he stabbed someone in the back??? Denying the violence of Islam is ludicrous and suicidal.
BUT...who is it that is calling for the murder of abortion doctors, the slaughter of gays, violence against atheists and people of other faiths, nuking Mecca? WHO is that, you say? Why, it's your loving fundie neighbor. Radical Islam is only perpetuating what fundies dream of, if they weren't chickenshits at heart.
9/6/2010 2:32:56 PM
So, you believe that a survey can be rigged, but also believe that the media can't possibly be lying or exaggerating? Especially with the growing 'don't trust everything the media says' sentiment. Did you ever think that this is what's reported because this is what gets the ratings? They report on the evils of Islam because people like you want confirmation on how evil Islam is.
9/6/2010 3:05:53 PM
Islam has basically the same teachings as the bible. If Islam is violent, then so is Christianity.
9/6/2010 3:42:19 PM
I think this is actually a step up for RR. An RR poster actually acknowledged Hare Krishnas, Jews, and Buddhists without a single reference to Satan or cults.
