Nanotech in the Biomedical industry is where we will see the most drastic impact to world. Does it not say in the bible that during the tribulation men will beg to die and even try to kill themselves, but that they will not die? Hmmm, could it be nanotech rebuilding broken, diseased bodies?

Uhhhh...if nanotech repairs the broken and diseased bodies...would that not eliminate the pain too? Just a thought.
I'm pretty sure that even with nanotech devices repairing my body, I could still kill myself were I so inclined.
It'd just be a matter of doing something... drastic.
Funny, I thought resurrection was solely Biblegod's domain. Bring on the singularity. Just, um. Leave the singularity cultists out of it; Pseudo-Mensa superiority complexes are nearly as bothersome as fundamentalist theism.
And I'm pretty sure a reliable, total suicide wouldn't be that unattainable. Stick your head in the path of a truck, and I'm fairly sure even magic nanites might have a hard time piecing the hundred yard long stream of brain salsa back together. Not that you'd really care about committing suicide with biomedical care that advanced. Actually, I'd even expect to see a resurgence of Roman gladiatorial style events if things were good enough to stave off death entirely. Get killed in the arena? Kick back on the couch after you "respawn" with your friends with beer and pretzels to watch the highlight reel. Damn. Where's MY magic nanites?
Uh, actually, yeah, I think that the goal of nanotechnology in the biomedical industry is in fact to attempt "rebuilding broken, diseased bodies," as you so eloquently put it. I'd be more inclined to word it a bit less poetically: "the goal of using nanotechnology in medicine is to heal the sick." I can't argue with that. It's absolutely true.
However, this goal is also shared by: surgery, antibiotics, chemotherapy, dentistry, blood transfusions, and everything in the field of medicine that isn't focused on preventing people from becoming sick in the first place. This goal is the foundation of the entire medical enterprise!
Hmmm, could it be nanotech rebuilding broken, diseased bodies?
Any world where magic healing-nanobots can repair any injury, cure any illness and repair even the most grievous wounds while alleviating pain would be Heaven on earth.
Confused?
