Quote# 76029

[The U.S. military confiscated and burned unsolicited Bibles which were sent by a church and printed in the two most common Afghan languages for fear that they would be used in an attempt to convert Afghans to Christianity.]

I either forgot about this or don't remember it, but either way, it was an abomination and the poster child of Political Correctness/Nation Building/Multiculturalism, run amok.

What is worse is that according to the timeline (supposedly May 2008) this would have made it under W's watch, which should not surprise anyone, as this poor naive, uninformed and misled (no doubt by Islamo-Fascist, Jihad/Muslim Brotherhood-supporting TRAITOR--Grover Norquist--who should have been banned and shunned by all Conservatives a long time ago) "Compassionate Conservative" RINO, Bush, started out being a "Crusader-like Commander,"--ready, willing and able to kick some Radical-Islamic ass--and ended up like so many other "Dhimmis" praising/defending/appeasing, the faux, cult-cum-religion of "Pieces!" and its practitioners!

GOD forbid (pun intended) we should have allowed any "Proseletizing" and anyone trying to convert the heathen/barbarian/rock-worshipping-pagans.

"heathen/barbarian/rock-worshipping-pagans."

We could say the same thing about you.

Your last sentence wins the Shiny Mirror Award for today.

The rest of your post is just mad dog rambling bullshit.

I never would have pictured you as an animal lover Mr Vet.

Have you heard of "let sleeping dogs lie"?

The Americans don't have it easy in Afghanistan. They are seen as invaders who have come to foist their culture onto the locals, to the detriment of their own local culture.

Trying to put Jesus into their hearts is going to cause a lot of friction and make things worse. You are a dumb vet, bad vet!

Please remain in your hillbilly hut in nowheretown in the deep south. There you can do the least damage.

9/14/2010 1:12:04 AM

Wozza

You are painfully stupid.

The bibles were burned because any attempt at converting muslims would have seriously undermined the mission and placed coalition troops in danger. "Political correctness" has nothing to do with it. This is a point that is so obvious your apparent failure to grasp it marks you out as either dishonest, or retarded.

I call retarded.

"the heathen/barbarian/rock-worshipping-pagans"

*sigh* Once again...

In Genesis, in the original Hebrew, God is named as Elohim. That's why most of the angels' names end in -el. That's why Israel ends in -el. In Hebrew, 'Elohim' is a form of 'Eloah' (it's the plural form, oddly), and 'Eloah' is the Hebrew cognate of the Arabic 'Allah'. Note that it's the Hebrew cognate of the Arabic, not the Jewish cognate of the Muslim. The distinction is purely linguistic.

They worship the same damn god (pun intended) you do.

P.S. "I actually forgot about this or don't remember it"? Redundancy isn't just what happens when the factory downsizes.

Imagine if a bunch of Muslims invaded your country, and started shoving Qurans down your throat. You'd be pretty pissed and blow a lot of hot air about killing these people. Now, replace "Muslim" with "Christian" and "Quran" with "Bible", and yourself with someone that actually has the balls to follow through with their threats, and you get the situation you are calling for in Afghanistan.

I really don't get the people who call W not sufficiently conservative. He was a conservative's wet dream with his tax cuts and desire to overthrow countries to install governments friendlier to US industry (in this case, oil).

Do you even know how counter-insurgency operations work? Kid, get off your armchair and lay off your cum-stained Tom Clancy novels; because in reality, you suck at anything related to warfare.

Can we lay off the "it's the same god" business? It comes across as lazy. Muslims worship the same god as the Jews, but Jesus muddies the waters for Christianity an awful lot. The fine line between monotheism and polytheism was threaded at Chalcedon, and I don't particularly understand it, but I know that saying that people who don't believe in the divinity of Christ worship the same god as Christians is being deliberately obtuse.

As to the freeper, he's an idiot. He probably is in the same camp that talks about how Muslims need to stop trying to push their faith on other people.

Seeing as prosletyzing in Afghanistan is punishable by death, I can't understand why you are bitching about those unwanted bibles in the Afghani languages are destroyed.

On an aside, I am sure you're rabidly vocal about the Muslim Cultural. That is called being a hypocrite.

"I either forgot about this or don't remember it,"

Yeah, conservatives do a lot of that.
Remember the economic collapse that happened under Bush? Thought not.

I agree that Bush II (and all other Republican presidents going at least as far back as Nixon) sold out much of what conservatives claim to believe. But since when do conservative leaders actually believe what they claim to believe?

GOD forbid (pun intended)

For fuck's sake that's not a fucking pun. A pun is a play on words, you're just using the expression straight (meaning exactly as it's meant to be used). Neither the individual words "god" and "forbid" nor the phrase "god forbid" have any alternate definitions being used here. You are also not substituting a homophone or a homograph.

This is a pun:
Life in Moscow is very frantic; they're always Russian.

This is also a pun:
The men's bathroom is for members only.

Or one of the ones commonly heard from atheist organizations:
This is a non-prophet organization.

All you did was take what is a usually empty plea and made it not empty. And yes, I know it's weird that this is the one thing I pick on but it annoys me when people use words that they don't know the meaning of in an attempt to sound clever.

The kind of world Conservative Vermont Vet would consider the "ideal world" to live in is the very kind of nightmare scenario I would take up arms to prevent.

Mudak, not trying to wade into a political debate here, but I think a case can be made that W was not a conservative - at least not from a small government, libertarian perspective. Bush increased federal spending to levels exceeding that established by his predecessor, Bill Clinton, and imposed some of the most sweeping expansions of government in American history, through legislation like the Patriot Act. Furthermore, his expansionist wars overseas do not fit a libertarian understanding of appropriate warfare, as they were not launched in self-defense or out of military necessity, thus spending trillions of dollars of taxpayer money on an idealistic crusade to establish "democracy" in two nations that never even asked the United States to come in and impose its system of government on them. Furthermore, Bush's social agenda - while nominally "conservative" in the Republican sense - does not fit with a small government vantage point, which says that the government has no business being in people's bedrooms, etc.

One thing that modern Americans do not really understand is that big government exists on both wings of the political aisle, with Fascism and Communism being its two extremes. Today, we are more often than not given a choice between left-wing government expansion (Obama) and right-wing government expansion (Bush). There are very few small government conservatives in either of the two major parties.

@Conservative Vermont Vet

I use pages torn from Bibles on the rare occasions when I run out of bog paper (Mmmmm-hmmmm, the paper used in Bibles is soooo absorbent! My ringpiece certainly feels the benefit! It's the only possible way that Bibles serve any practical purpose, short of pulping such to make paper for printing "On the Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin, "A Brief History of Time" by Prof. Stephen Hawking", and "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.).

Certainly a better use for Bibles than merely burning them, I'm sure you'll agree, eh?!

>:D

"GOD forbid (pun intended) we should have allowed any "Proseletizing" and anyone trying to convert the heathen/barbarian/rock-worshipping-pagans."

Okay. The next time you're 'Proseltysed' by Jehovah's Witnesses, Hare Krishnas etc, or even asked to take the 'Personality Test' by $cientologists, you'll immediately want to join them? (check one):

[ ] Yes. So other religions have the right to 'Proseltyse', amirite? And the mere fact they exist prove they're superior to yours, thus your current 'beliefs & 'faith' can't be all they're cracked up to be, if you joined such so easily. But then, ask those who converted to your 'faith'. The words 'Shiny, shiny mirror' exist for a reason, cuntbubble.

[ ] No. In that case, you've just destroyed your own argument.

Choose wisely. Either way, you're fucked.

Above and beyond all other considerations, those Bibles were sent to military installations in Afghanistan, and the U.S. military should never be a tool for proselytizing.
