Why NASA and its scientists insist that the universe is not like what the Qura'n says? The HADITH said that the distance betwenn the Earth and the first heaven is 500 years.. not light years but in that age's way of measuring .. walking and riding camels. Now it is said that billions and billions of miles distance us from stars.. then it is said that there is no end to the universe, although it is known in islam that there is heavens and the chair of god and the ultimate ceiling of the worlds: sedrat al-muntaha. those new beliefs made man unaware of his importance. they told us we are just specks of dust.. nothing. That leads to man behaving as if there is no meaning in life.. as if he is nothing that maters. Atheists love this line of thinking.. we shouldn't.

We have telescopes, so shut the fuck up.

They say that because it's a scientific fact.

Anyway, it's sad to know that every religion has it's share of crazies and bigots.

With every passing day, the world becomes a bit more aware that religions cloud the mind and promote ignorance.

Actually, if a camel walks 5 mph - not an unreasonable estimate - this isn't a bad guess for the closest approach to Venus, our nearest neighbor excluding the moon. Still gibberish, though.

"Why NASA and its scientists insist that the universe is not like what the Qura'n says?"

They don't. Reality does the insisting. NASA's scientists just go along with it since there's no use in arguing with reality despite the best efforts of people such as yourself.

"The HADITH said that the distance betwenn the Earth and the first heaven is 500 years.. not light years but in that age's way of measuring .. walking and riding camels."

A camel averages around 100k per day. The Sun is 1,392,000k from Earth. Given that, it would take the camel about 39 years to walk the distance to the sun.

In other words, your camel would be long dead and your Qur'an is wrong. Again.

"Now it is said that billions and billions of miles distance us from stars.. then it is said that there is no end to the universe, although it is known in islam that there is heavens and the chair of god and the ultimate ceiling of the worlds: sedrat al-muntaha."

And?

"those new beliefs made man unaware of his importance. they told us we are just specks of dust.. nothing."

Outside this planet humans are nothing. Outside of your immediate family and friends, you too are not terribly meaningful. Sorry to be the one to break the news to you.

"That leads to man behaving as if there is no meaning in life.. as if he is nothing that maters."

Fine. Enlighten me about the meaning of life. Philosophers greater than yourself have worked on this problem for as long as humans have been around and haven't gotten very far. So, what's the meaning to it all? Just to kiss the ass of your particular deity only to die and--if I kissed his ass long enough and well enough--I get to do it for all eternity? No thanks.

"Atheists love this line of thinking.. we shouldn't."

Then don't.

I truly feel sorry for those who think they have to be centrally located to matter. Do you shrivel away to dust when you aren't in the center of the room you're in? Do you only walk in the middle of the road to preserve your significance? I recommend intensive counselling for this problem...

Salama, you'll have to work hard to achieve the status of a speck of dust. Intellectually you're gaseous. Like a fart.

Despite all the fundy fail, I have to give this one credit for comprehending that a light year is a measure of distance, rather than time.

I think it would take more than 500 years to get a star by camel. You can volunteer to prove me wrong, though. I'd love to see that go down.

Facts don't change because you don't like them. Sorry the size of the universe gives you feelings of pointlessness and inadequacy or whatever, but it's still big.

The sooner you get over your lala dream land and start dealing with facts the sooner you can see how awesome it all is.

Really...
If you use the 500 Light Year argument,as a measure of distance to the first Islamic heaven, then there are 511 G-type stars, which could form a star system similar to ours, & hence intelligent life, within a 100 light year sphere using Sol, as the central reference point...
If you expand this to a 500Ly sphere, then how many other, potentially life bearing stars exist...?
As for the Open/Closed nature of the Universe, it depends on if there is enough matter, to cause spacetime to form a closed or open Universe...

Yes, it's good to have a meaning to life. My personal meaning is to be as uneducated as possible for Jesus. I'm getting there. I expect one of your meanings to life, Mando, is to make sure that that all apostates are killed and that all atheists are beheaded. A worthy meaning indeed. Your God is nearly as loving as ours.

Those astronomers with their fancy Darwinian light years and their commie/Nazi/Liberal big bangs would do well to climb down from their evolutionary high towers and place themselves in the hands of dedicated exorcists.

I know you practise a different religion, but have you ever considered joining one of our world-wide dribbling clubs? I think you'd be perfect. You could probably start as a fully fledged drooler, but I'm sure that within 6 months you'd be an expert desultory-shambler and potentially a full time knuckle-dragger.

Good luck Mando, you're practically as thick as me.

Pffft. We don't love this way of thinking any more than we love gravity. That's just the way it is. It's the simplest, most rational explanation. Do you honestly think that the universe physically ends somewhere with a wall of adminite or something?

Ok, first of, referring to the earth as specs of dust is not to call it and life on it worthless, but to give you a slight understanding of the magnitude of the universe we exist in.

Second off, if all this science says something and you can't figure out why the Qu'ran's info isn't what they're finding, do you suppose maybe, just maybe, in a time before space exploration that people just didn't know what existed beyond the atmosphere of the earth...hell, they didn't even know a whole lot about the earth they lived on

Can you see heaven? No.

When has anything religion said about the universe/earth/science in general actually turn out to be true..?
As far as everyone is concerned
Score: Science=infinite answers
Religion=infinite fail for human advancement and intelligence

They don't insist in comparing the universe to the Koran, or any other holy book. They observe the universe without prejudice, and take it for what it is.

If there is no bigger meaning, then the smallest act of kindness is the greatest thing in the world.
We atheists are doing good because it makes us feel good to help others. Knowing that someone has a slightly better life because of us, that's all the reward we want.
This is the line of thinking that atheists love.

9/27/2010 3:28:43 AM

Maybe when they said "500 years" away, they kind of meant "really fucking far". Also, scientists insist on saying those things because all evidence points to it.
