Whose god and whose satan? If it's the moderates' god vs. the moderates' satan then god wins, hands down. If it's the fundie version of god vs the fundie version of satan then satan is usually (unintentionally) portrayed as the better guy.

Your mentioning this reminded me of what Sheridan did in "Babylon 5" (pointed out in that TV Tropes link you provided), where (and was the whole point of that 2nd Shadow War they'd been fighting; how it was all basically an argument by the two 'First Ones': the Vorlons = 'Order', the Shadows = 'Chaos'). Remembering the cryptic (as ever) words of the original Kosh, 'Understanding is a three-edged sword', he realised what it meant: he understood that in the Order vs. Chaos conflict caused by the Vorlons & Shadows, there was an alternative: for the younger races (Minbari, Narn, Centauri etc, and including Humans), they had advanced enough to no longer need the 'guidance' of the Vorlons or Shadows. Ultimately, he told both of them 'Now get the hell out of our galaxy!', whereupon the shamed First Ones had no choice but to admit the whole interstellar game was up.
In the same way we no longer need religions' concepts of 'Good' or 'Evil'. We can work things out for ourselves.
