Quote# 7681

God never answers a prayer that is against his will. If I pray that some hot guy would ring my doorbell today so I could have an affair (which I would never pray, but this is just an example) he wouldn't answer that because it would be bad for me. Similarly, if God was sending the hurricane to bring people closer to him, he would bring the storm with full severity no matter what we prayed. Perhaps he is able to achieve the same effect with the storm that he did/is sending.

Someone needs some lovin' from the pizza man

Damn, so if you wish a hot guy/girl would ring your doorbell and it's not an affair then they will? Bitchin

So that's what you tell yourself when you notice that prayer doesn't work. Whatever works for you.

Why send a hurricane? If I was god I would send party invitations. Free booze always brings people closer.

Geez, it shouldn't be that hard for a woman to get some strange nookie, if that's what she's looking for (and it sounds like this one is!).

Lorren, you should see my UPS guy...

TB Tabby

\"You CANNOT...petition the lord...with prayer!\"

2/4/2007 9:43:52 PM

And what about the 5 year old child, dying of Leukemia? Not worthy?

The village dying from drought, and desperate for rain? Still unworthy?

The man desperately depressed, and looking for someone to guide him? Still not showing on the radar?

It still seems like praying to god has as much effect as whistling in the wind. Why bother if God's just gonna do what he wants anyways?

10/5/2007 3:36:19 PM

so much for "gawd answers all prayers", eh?

10/5/2007 3:38:00 PM

Well, it was correct up until the sixth word...

10/5/2007 4:26:02 PM

So prayer really is BS. I knew it all along!!

11/28/2007 4:01:01 PM

Then why bother praying?

Hit the bars and get yourself laid.

11/28/2007 4:38:36 PM

Ansem the Wise

So... prayer is useless, essentially?

11/28/2007 4:56:17 PM

it's easy to rationalise everything away when your head is stuck firmly up your arse

11/29/2007 3:57:27 AM

So, no matter how hard you pray, God always does his will?

So, how do we have free will again?

1/13/2008 8:38:40 PM

So since you don't and can't know god's will why bother praying at all.

If you really want a hot guy to ring your doorbell then (as others have said) use the phone - order a pizza. You might need to do it a couple of times to get a proper hot one!

Dr. Shrinker

"Similarly, if God was sending the hurricane to bring people closer to him, he would bring the storm with full severity no matter what we prayed."

God welcomes his/her/its victims

9/3/2009 6:12:55 AM

So in other words, praying is a complete waste of time because God will do whatever he wants to do anyway. Ah well, it's your breath you're wasting.

9/3/2009 6:23:30 AM

God never answers a prayer that is against his will.
The ultimate cop-out. D'ya ever get that feeling when you were told to pray for a sick person, who died anyway? "It's God's will." What a waste of time, effort, and emotional energy!

9/3/2009 6:55:44 AM

So if you pray for something god doesn't want to do, he won't do it. If you pray for something he does want to do, he'll do it, but since he wants to do it, he would have done it anyway. If god doesn't exist, prayer can have no effect either way. From the standpoint of efficacy, prayer is thus an entirely redundant waste of time and effort under all possible circumstances.

9/3/2009 1:48:20 PM

You essentially say that prayer is of no use because our fate is predestined. Ok.

7/19/2013 5:00:43 PM

Dr. Gus

So, NONO! to sex, but HELL YES! to death and destruction? And are you sure your god is the good guy?

7/19/2013 5:28:10 PM

So you admit that prayer is a complete waste of time. That's good to hear.
