[Replying to a guy saying all he can do is pray for people during Hurricane Katrina]
ALL you can do is PRAY?!
Why that is the MOST, BEST AND HIGHEST THING we can do. Hallelujah!!! Praise the LORD we can PRAY!

Too bad you can't eat, wear, live in, or drive prayers.
The hurricane victims didn't need prayers, they needed help.
Also, OMG.
SusieQ: My husband and I gave money to the Red Cross, but it just seems so insignificant right now. Praying, praying, praying.
Morningstarlet: Your prayers are worth far more than all the money you can give.

LIES.
Some people learn how to swing hammers and use power drills. Some people gave money or blood. Some tried to help provide information. You... prayed.
Jimmy Carter doesn't mind prayer. But he also doesn't mind nailing a couple of 2x4s or wielding a paintbrush from time to time. He's way more Christian than you ever will be.
No, see, sometimes people like to do USEFUL things that actually accomplish something. And when we can't, it's frustrating. Get it now?
No, the best thing you can do is give large sums of money to charities helping people, like the hurricane victims who had nothing left. After that, you can send money to charities that send clothes, doctors, and food to poor, sick, starving Africans. Or donate to cancer research. Or AIDS research. etc.
At least then you're actually doing something for someone. Prayer is for lazies.
I can actually see good uses for prayer: if you're stuck in a situation where you really can't do anything of substance to help, then spending some time praying is as good a way to deal with the stress as any.
Once you start neglecting others and relying on prayer to compensate for it, a vital line has been crossed: instead of keeping the matters of the spirit personal and private, you have used their trappings to shield yourself from responsibility and avoid having to make sacrifices, even small ones, for the good of others.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Pharisees did that, and they were one of the only groups that got Jesus angry enough to throw down.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
