Riiiight.
BTW, did you know that GRB 080319B happened 7.5 billion years ago, 7.5 billion light years away, just in time to greet the departing consciousness of Arthur C. Clarke?
Pretty good, considering the Earth wasn't even a cloud of dust at the time.

Distant stars and galaxies might be millions of light-years away, but that doesn’t mean that it took millions of years for the light to get here,
Yes, it does. A light year is a measure of distance, sure: it's the distance that light travels in a year. So if a star is X light years from Earth, it takes exactly X years for the light to get here. This shouldn't be difficult to understand.

Distant stars and galaxies might be millions of light-years away, but that doesn’t mean that it took millions of years for the light to get here, it just means it is really far away!
Actually, this is exactly what is meant by light-year you idiot. If something is a million light years away, it takes 1 million years for light to cross the distance.
I constantly question how much stupidity like this is made up of choice vs. honest to goodness lack of brains.

While I am glad you understand what a light year is, I see that you fail to understand what a light year is.

God doesn't give any dates in the Bible, just a long (boring) list of "begat's". Plus, the Bible is only evidence of the existence of the Bible, not the existence of any, or your particular, god.
You seriously need to read up on light-years, numskull. Yes, it is a measure of distance, but no; it DID take millions of years for the light to get here.
(Btw, I've studied languages and transports, not math or astrophysics. I still manage to understand as much. What did you study? Finger painting?)

I read about the afterlife
The term "Light Years" means it took a certain amount of time, in years, for the light to reach us. If a star is millions of light years away, it means that it took millions of years for the light to reach us.
Idiot.

Either you are implying that the speed of light is greater than the speed of light, or you are implying that we can observe stars whose light has not reached earth yet.
Either way, somebody needs to find the warglbargl dog........please.

*sigh* A light-year is called a "light-year" because it involves the distance that a beam of light can travel in one year's time. So, if something is a million light-years away, then that means that something traveling at the speed of light (like, oh, I dunno, LIGHT) will take a million years to reach that object (and vice versa).
You deceitful bastard. At any rate, I could think of better ways to rationalize the "young Earth" belief that don't require as much cross-eyed idiocy.

Just when you think they can't get any fucking dumber.....
A light year is the distance that light travels in..... wait for it... one year.
So if a quasar is 12 billion light years away it took the light 12 billion years to get here.

It doesn't mean it took millions of years for the light to get here, it just means God set up a completely deceptive-looking universe!

You fail astrophysics physics basic science forever. That's right, after careful consideration I've realized that you just plain fail forever. But hey, that's why you're a young Earth creationist.

Reading the context of the quote it seems that he actually does understand the concept of a light-year. He just gives the normal "goddidit" explanation to how the stars can be seen that far in a 6000 years old universe.
