ADL slams Shas spiritual leader for saying non-Jews 'were born to serve Jews'

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef says in Saturday sermon that 'Goyim have no place in the world - only to serve the People of Israel'; ADL chief calls Yosef's words 'hateful' and 'divisive'.

The Anti-Defamation League on Tuesday condemned comments about non-Jews made this past weekend by Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

In a sermon given on Saturday on laws concerning what non-Jews are permitted to do on Shabbat, Yosef said: "Goyim [non-Jews] were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve the People of Israel."

"Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat."

According to Yosef, death has "no dominion" over non-Jews in Israel.

"With gentiles, it will be like any person - they need to die, but [God] will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant... That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew.”

Doubting Thomas

No wonder there are so many conspiracy theories about Jews running the world... I expect this to be picked up by anti-semite conspiracy theorists as "proof" that Jews are running the world and see non-Jews as nothing more than beasts of burden.

At least the ADL condemns these statements. Much better than the silence you often hear from Christians or Muslims whenever one of their own makes radical statements.

I read about the afterlife

And people wonder why I get mad when they say "anti-zionism is anti-semetism." No. Zionism is this shit. The fact that I don't think we should all serve jews does not mean that I am anti-semetic.

Ever noticed that fundies from EVERY religion think that people not from their religon should be their slaves?

2 "I read about the afterlife":

Zionism is about establishing and maintaining a country Israel. Nothing more, nothing less. This is not zionism, this is fundy-ism.

I reckon that thinking you are entitled to just go and take a share of somebody else's land because you believe your god promised it to you is very close to this.

It's good that jews can condem the evils and depravitys of their fellow jews.
Judaism may be leading the way in reforms to their own religion. The Talmud is overdue for editing.
Now if we can just get the christians and muslims to jump on the reform bandwagon.

2 Jesus Heribert Christ:

"I reckon that thinking you are entitled to just go and take a share of somebody else's land because you believe your god promised it to you is very close to this."

--- Jews tried living in the countries that are controlled by someone else. The results were not too pleasant.

Besides, whose land did they take? British? I somehow doubt that Britain (or Turks, for that matter) have any better claim to that land than the Jews.

No, they simply took land the Palestinians were living on and said 'fuck off. This is ours now. Our god says so.'

"No, they simply took land the Palestinians were living on and said 'fuck off. This is ours now. Our god says so.'"

What Palestinians? There was no such nation prior to 1948.

What Palestinians? There was no such nation prior to 1948.

Oh, I see, you have to belong to a nation now before you can live somewhere. Palestine was completely empty when the Zionists turned up, and nobody was displaced at all. Gotcha.

I never thought I would have any sympathy toward Nazi for the Holocaust committed.

Yet, amazingly, this person single handedly make me felt just a tiny tinge of sympathy for them.

"Oh, I see, you have to belong to a nation now before you can live somewhere. Palestine was completely empty when the Zionists turned up, and nobody was displaced at all. Gotcha."

--- Straw man fallacy detected. I never stated Palestine was empty.

As for displaced ones - most of Arab refugees fled on their own accord, with the assumption that invading Arab armies would quickly destroy Israel.

10/26/2010 8:12:34 AM

"What Palestinians?"

Apparently now they're imaginary. Makes you wonder why Israel has a problem with letting those non-existent people come back....

"I never stated Palestine was empty."

what the heck were you trying to imply with "What Palestinians?"

"most of Arab refugees fled on their own"

So in your universe if a fleeing refugee is not actively picked up and carried across the border by the people taking over their country, their rights are automatically invalidated.

And before you whine about strawmen again, yes, it's an obvious exageration for rhetorical effect, but the general point stands. A refugee who fled by their own choice is still a refugee.

@Unbeliever

Because kids, remember! It's okay to get rid of human rights when the UN says so! The Palestinians do not matter! It's completely A-OK to transfer 1.5 million people to Gaza which is exactly how large? Oh yeah 25 miles long and 4 miles wide. That's completely okay, kids. It's even better when you set them up with shoddy housing.

And people don't understand why the palestinians attack them? Well, let me ask you, what would you do if someone stomped in your door and said "Hey, you can live in the closet -- I'll just take the rest of your house?"

Yeah, I'd say zionism is exactly this. The palestinians are lesser, in their minds.

Yeah, no. Fuck that. Slavery is wrong even if some man in the sky says it's okay in a 5000 years old book. Furthermore, you'd think with the Jews' history (hell, even their recent history 7 decades ago) they'd all be able to see why it's wrong. And then you get assholes like this who, despite their theological differences, have more in common with those that persecuted them than anyone else.

The Palestinian Palestinians.
Those people that were living in the region known as Palestine.
The palestinians who won their freedom as allies of Britain, fighting for independence between 1915 and 1918.
The Palestinians who were betrayed, and re-enslaved by their British and French allies in 1919.
The Palestinians who's land was partitioned between England and France.

The Palestinians who have experienced 90 years of Democracy, without a single day of freedom.

So there is absolutely no moral difference whatsoever between the Israelis and the Palestinians. I see.
