{{NASA recently announced an expansion of its near-Earth asteroid survey program, and described plans to deflect any dangerously large objects that would otherwise hit the Earth. Hearing about this, Steven Sherman wrote:}}

Asteroids in Bible Prophecy Reveal End Times and the Rapture

Since End Time Bible Prophecy Reveals that Asteroids are a Sign that Precedes the Rapture, Can NASA Really Protect Us from a Dangerous Asteroid Strike?

Although John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy claims that NASA will play a leading part in protecting the United States and the world from the threat of a dangerous asteroid strike, the Bible clearly reveals that asteroids are one of the end time signs that precede the Rapture.

According to Matthew 24:29, one of the signs in the heavens that will take place after the tribulation is that asteroids will fall to earth.

During the judgement of Noah’s day, all the springs of the great deep burst forth. Just as the waters beneath the earth were held in reserve as an outpouring of God’s judgement, so the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter is held in reserve awaiting the outpouring of the final plagues of Revelation.

Jesus replied to his disciples’ inquiry concerning the sign of his second coming and the end of the evil world system by telling of the signs of his return. After the time of great persecution commonly known as the Great Tribulation, the signs in the heavens will include asteroids falling from the sky. After those signs, God’s elect will meet the Lord in the air as they are captured out at the Rapture.

It seems like everything is a sign of the end times for you raptards.

Asteroids aren't something new, it's not like just suddenly existed upon the invention of the telescope or something.

Meh. This is typical Rapture nonsense. At least he's not saying that there should be no funding for these types of programs because "it interferes in God's plan."

Whew! Lucky! No worries Steven, I just checked Matthew 24:29 and it's OK, it doesn't say that asteroids are going to fall to Earth. So, you can relax there safe in the knowledge that you won't be destroyed by biblical asteroids. However, you will be roasted to a crisp, and I will, we all will, because stars are going to fall from heaven. Although, since the Earth would fit inside a sunspot, maybe the phrase "and the stars shall fall from heaven" is not quite an apt description. Still, no sweat, the Bible's full of stuff that's not apt.

You'd think that God, being omniscient and having created everything, would know the difference between a star and an asteroid. I knew it back in elementary school. It almost seems as though ... gosh, I know this sounds silly ... the author of Matthew had worked from the knowledge of one first-century human being.

Odds are, given enough time, Earth is going to get hit. It's not the fucking apocalypse.

Matthew 24:29 "Immediately after the distress of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken."

There's not much reason to worry after the first one.If the sun goes dark, we're pretty much all dead and there won't be anyone around to see the Son of Man arrive.

Notice the second point. I guess God forgot to tell Matthew that "moonlight" was simply reflected sunlight.

Not asteroids but STARS will fall

So given the nearest star is 4.5 light years away it could take a while to get here.

King James Bible
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Wait...the waters were held in reserve for the Deluge from the beginning? You do realize it doesn't say much about God's ideas of what is proper, if he intended to commit mass execution before the corruption was even imagined, yes?

I'm pretty sure that's what the plot of Chrono Trigger is loosely centered around.

Yes, and according to Revelation 1:16 when the stars fall to earth several can be held in one hand. To the Bronze Age shepherds who wrote the Bible stars were tiny lamps fixed to a solid sky.
As Thomas Jefferson wrote to General Alexander Smyth "It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it [the Book of Revelation], and I then considered it merely the ravings of a maniac, no more worthy nor capable of explanation than the incoherencies of our own nightly dreams".

I'm not sure how much of your criteria would be filled by a PS3 game called El Shaddai: The Ascension of Metatron.

No, actually Jesus said that stars will fall to earth, not asteroids, proving that Jesus didn't know what stars were and like everyone else at the time, thought they were just tiny lights hanging up in the sky.

The rest of this reads like some end-times fap fantasy.

So, your imaginary sky daddy made us only to purposely mean to destroy us and everything else on earth too?
Benevolent god my ass.

And by the way, gravity keeps the asteroid belt where it is, not a supernatural magic man.

Jesus also said to his discpiles, that they will not have "tasted death" until he returns.
Well, AFAIK nobody doubts that Jesus disciples are all dead now ;)

Should cast something of a doubt onto the other things, Jesus said ;)

Except those Asteroids were from an alien being from inside the planet. Which grew powerful by manpulating evolution on the planet until it got the best DNA.

Just because you don't believe in the bible or Jesus does not mean these things are not true. Jesus is very real. And to call Him names just shows you have absolutely no idea who he is. He came to give His life for our sins. That was showing the greatest love. Yet, when He returns and oh yes He will- He is coming to judge all the evilness in this world. I bet when Jesus comes with all His power you won't be mocking Him then! And Jesus did not tell His disciples that THEY will not see death before He comes. He said the generation that is living during all these signs will see all these signs in their lifetime.

"Just because you don't believe in the bible or Jesus does not mean these things are not true."

Stars won't fall, that's the Biblical quote he's dancing around here, trying to equate Asteroids with stars and claiming that's a clear verse. Either your books literal or it isn't, make up your minds.

How about all you lot quit trying to reconcile old myths into modern times and knowledge, even when your spiritual leaders try it it amounts to full on fail every time. The Bible is a collection of borrowed myths, this can be proven by it's own internal inconsistancy alone. Most of you don't read it and those that do ignore it's contradictions.
