[About Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear."]
This ” performance ” reminds me of an old fashioned minstrel show where white men dressed in black face to entertain crowds with sterotypical mockery of minorities. —Only in this case they are mocking patriotic conservative Glen Beck types. Our country is facing very serious issues and all theft has to offer is bigoted ridicule.

and had new material,,all the Beck thing did was repeat his and Tea party slogans all day.

Glenn Beck isn't a patriotic conservative. He is an anti-American mental patient, which type is well deserving of mockery. Like donh.
Soooo...
Calling Barack President Osama, as secret Muslim, and a host of other things = Okay.
Satirizing a pundit = unforgivably wrong.
Interesting. You do realize that those who hired, staged, and enjoyed minstrel shows the most were the upper-class twits that made up "The 500" (and their imitators) in what Mark Twain referred to as, "The Gilded Age?" So just how old are you? Or, are you and your friends re-creating this great moment in racist history?
As for Glen Beck, he's been a self-parody often enough that he should be used to it. I hardly think he needs you to defend his act, even though he'd get the hook on a vaudeville stage.
Minstrel shows were NOT about ridiculing blacks, btw. Read up on it, you'll find it reflected a whole different culture and perspective. Downright weird to us, but not purposefully mocking at all.
I really don't think there's any comparison here. People like Glenn Beck make such a mockery of themselves that it's easy to lampoon them.
And are you seriously trying to say that the right is offering more than bigoted ridicule? You really think the teabaggers have any useful ideas?
Ridicule is the only weapon to use against unintelligible propositions.
BTW - GREAT signs at the Rally, go look them up on Huffington post if you haeven't seen them yet. A few of my favorites:
A picture of Bush and the sign says “I screwed you all. But thanks for blaming it on the Black Guy”
“Less Rhetoric. More Cowbell”
“Keep your hands off my 3rd Amendment Rights! No soldiers quartered in my house!”
“What do we want??? Patience! When do we want it??? NOW!”

Ever hear of the phrase 'Those who don't want their beliefs laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs'?
PROTIP: It doesn't just apply to religious beliefs, donh. Or should I call you 'D'o (n)h! '
OTG, did they actually WATCH the Rally? I was there, and there was not a single criticism aimed solely at conservatives. All I can imagine is that they're feeling attacked by all that bleeding-heart sentiment like "Don't hate on all Muslims just because some of them are bad" and "Gay people are people too."
"Oh dear heavens! A pair of professional comedians mock the media! It's somehow racist and bigoted!"
So, did you huff paint by the gallon when you were a child or are you just having a developmental problem?
You know, it actually IS possible to be patriotic without being a conservative, in the military, and/or an a**hole. Well, maybe you don't know that, but it is possible.
Have you ever heard the phrase "you have to laugh to keep from crying?"
That, sir, is why anyone who is intelligent laughs at Beck, Billo and fox news in general.
Because mocking a certain set of political beliefs is exactly the same thing as degrading someone because they were born with a different color of skin.
And the fact that conservatives gained seats in Congress during this last election just goes to prove that you guys are one seriously persecuted minority.
I only make fun of the insane if they are on TV every day and make hundreds of millions of dollars fleecing those who are even crazier than themselves. Glen Beckerwood and his freakish worshipers are, under this system, fair game. Frankly, Beckerwood should not just be mocked and kicked off the air. He should be in a locked psych ward until he starts taking the medication he so clearly needs.
Patriotism =/= wanting to overthrow the government, asshole. Patriotism is pretty much the OPPOSITE of the bile Glenn Beck spews on a regular basis.
So is truth, by the way, as you would know if you looked up absolutely ANYTHING Beck blathers on about.

If he'd ever heard of the way certain TV programmes here in the UK had/has satirised(s) politicians, celebrities, the media, and even religion from the 1960s right up to today:
"That Was The Week That Was"
"Dave Allen At Large"
"Not The Nine O'Clock News"
"Spitting Image"
"Have I Got News For You"
"Mock The Week"
And extremely savagely too, then d'o (n)h! would have an aneurysm. The political cartoons in newspapers/magazines here (especially in "Punch" and "Private Eye") aren't just savage, but can annihilate a politician (especially near elections). The ultimate irony being that the biggest collectors of the original artwork are the politicians themselves.
But then, unlike Repubicans/Religious Right/Teabaggers/Neocons like d'o (n)h! , we in the UK (and certainly many in the US, hence messrs. Stewart & Colbert) possess a healthy sense of Irony & Cynicism.
That's funny, going to church reminds me of the same thing, sitting there, listening to some moron preach about how non-Americans are so evil, especially the Mexicans. Wow, so it really is a small world after all.
Confused?
