[Re: How could Democrats have won in California?]

My daughter was near inconsolable and kept saying, "I don't understand", "I don't understand". I did, all to readily. I explained t her about darkness, spritual blindness, evil, stuff she already knows. But she kept shaking her head on how so many people could be SO blind as to not see what the progressive/left/demos/etc. are up to. I told her that Massachusetts, Nevada, and CA are still dark states and will continue to cling to their darkness.

I've been wondering the same thing about all those who bought into the Republican/Conservative finger-pointing & fear mongering. As far as I'm concerned this country as a whole took a huge step back, and if we're still mired in recession a year from now, we'll have no one but ourselves to blame.

I love my homeland, but sometimes I seriously wish I'd grown up somewhere else.

from the thread...

> One, some of the church here thinks that politics is too dirty for them.

Or, they realize that once they get involved in politics they run the risk of losing their tax exempt status.

We can only hope that some day the brainwashing you've accomplished here will be undone and your poor daughter will see that we're not pure evil like you've taught her.

Way to go, scaring the shit out of kids like that. For real, you should be charged with child abuse.

they're whinging because they were outvoted, i.e. they don't want democracy, they want only Christists to have the vote

But she kept shaking her head on how so many people could be SO blind as to not see what the progressive/left/demos/etc. are up to.

Evidently she cannot even bear to conceive that the majority might actually want what the party she hates is offering.

Maybe you should tell your daughter the truth instead of making her believe that liberals are evil, Satan-worshiping dictators. Liberals = people who happen to disagree with you on certain issues. Ooooo, scary!

This is despicable, telling a child that her parent's political opponents are evil and demonic. How can she research both sides and come to her own conclusions if she thinks that one of the sides is pure evil? From the perspective of the liberals (who actually have science and reason on their side) it's the conservatives who are in the darkness and willingly blind and evil, anyway.

This is just proof that you never choose to be a Republican, you're a Republican because someone told you to be one.

"My daughter was near inconsolable and kept saying, "I don't understand", "I don't understand"."

Here's a hint: Democrats aren't completely insane and/or know enough not to act as such every time someone points a news camera at them. It's also a reasonably non-conservative state.

"I did, all to readily. I explained t her about darkness, spritual blindness, evil, stuff she already knows. But she kept shaking her head on how so many people could be SO blind as to not see what the progressive/left/demos/etc. are up to."

I'm not sure you should be talking about how blind others are. Have you listened to the Republicans lately? Or those Tea Party clowns?

"I told her that Massachusetts, Nevada, and CA are still dark states and will continue to cling to their darkness."

Well this is just silly. Just look at all that sun they get! Darkness indeed.

And here, in Colorado, Bennett beat Buck! Truly, the devil was at work here...how could a Democrat beat a Tea Partier otherwise?

And uh, is demos shorthand for democrats, or a fail-spell of demons? XD (I'm sure to this person, its the same thing, but whatever, I'm just curious).

Yeah them damn liberals wanting to provide medical care to someone even if he's out of a job. Jesus would have said "get a job with a big company that provides medical insurance, you lazy bastard - otherwise, go ahead and die - see if I care". And "love thy neighbor as thyself" only means love your white, heterosexual hard-workin' fellow blue-collar Baptists - not them damn dot-heads, diaper-heads, taco-eaters, queers, pointy-headed scientists, Democrats, Volvo-drivers, NPR supporters and people who think their grandmother was a monkey!

'How could Democrats have won in California?'

To quote Boromir:
'So it is true. In a dream, I saw the Eastern sky grow dark. But in the West, a pale light lingered.'

[Re: How could Democrats have won in California?]

Possibly because they resented the efforts of millionaires to buy their way into office so they could run the state as an extension of their business holdings. As I recall, Jesus was very suspicious of rich people, that whole "camel through the eye of the needle" thing. It would seem that the people of California may have been thinking along the same lines.

Ah, but who cares about Jesus. They didn't agree with you, so clearly they are living in darkness.

Why does California staying blue surprise these people?! Glenn Beck was bitching about California as well. California hasn't been red since Reagan. At least California has the sense not to elect tea baggers. There is no need to resort to calling them evil, the devil, darkness, etc. just because they didn't vote like you. You lost the West, get over it.

No, they're not "spiritually blind," they have their eyes open to see how evil the Republicans can be. And if your daughter is crying because people didn't elect Republicans across the board, then you should explain to her that Republicans don't always win elections, and sometimes Democrats win, not to mention independents!

I don't understand why the rapturites care about politics anyway, since they tend to believe that the entire country is evil and Jesus is coming back very, very soon.

I read about the afterlife

If this child is 10 or under, I am disgusted with you. If she's 16 and up, I am disgusted with her. If she's 10-16, I'm kind of impressed she actually follows politics.

Clearly you don't understand either. It has nothing to do with any darkness and everything to do with democracy. This is what the people wanted to vote for end of story. This extreme animosity between red and blue is getting annoying and it's making it impossible to get shit done. And the attachment of religious significance to a political party (as you just did) is only making it worse. I'm not saying Dems and Reps should be agreeing with each other and singing Kumbaya, but ultimately both need to realize that they represent ALL people, not just the people that voted for them and the voters need to look beyond party labels and see if the candidate as an individual is the right person for the job and they need to realize that people hold different political opinions from them and that this doesn't make those people demons or idiots simply because they voted for someone that's a member of the opposite party that you voted for. Along with religious fundamentalism, America can do without political fundamentalism.

And she'll keep on asking why are SO MANY PEOPLE blind and in the darkness. Because, you know, either God is omnipotent but doesn't care about darkness, or you are............well, you're getting the picture.
