Quote# 77326

This has been in my mind for awhile, Does God desire for us to use so much of our time on our ''education''?
to me education means to know how to read, write, know basic math, history, and science. Honestly, it seems that futher education such as Algebra is uneccesary and futile. Of course, I want to finish high school and later go on to college but i just want to know if that's what God desires for me. I want to live a holy and Godly life and sometimes my mind wonders if i should use such of an amount of my time in school. Its like the alternative of not going to school would be going out and spreading the message of Christ into the world and saving souls.

No, the alternative to going to school is burger-flipping. And most chains won't let you give out Chick Tracts in the happy meals.

Quit using God as an excuse to not do your homework.

"Praise Jesus, amen! Now, would you like fries with that?"

Hey, "God doesn't want me to do this" is not an excuse to not do your homework!

Trust me. Finish school. No one gives a rat's ass how many souls you "save", not even your god.

Algebra *is* basic maths, the principles upon which all else is built. You wonder if you should limit yourself to simple arithmetic, I think.

Never pass up on education, to any level, ever. If you're capable of doing it, do it. That's why your god gave you a brain.

11/7/2010 5:41:26 AM

NO! ANY time that you spend NOT bowing down to God is a total waste of time and is abhorrent to Him! Even knowing the basics of math, history, and science will cause you to question His authority!

Also...don't ever touch your penis. When you discover what THAT thing can do...it's pretty much all over between you and God!

11/7/2010 5:43:09 AM

So why’d God give us brains, then?

At least the replies are sane, and the OP reacted positively to them.

I am only mehing this because the OP is a teenager. If she were an adult, this would be WTF material. I've had thoughts like this before (school is hard, damn it), but I never couched them in religion. Here's hoping that Asgb will realize that higher education is necessary for the function of our society, one of these days.

"This has been in my mind for awhile, Does God desire for us to use so much of our time on our "education"?"

No, of course not. He prefers you be dumb as a rock. Much easier to dupe you into worshiping him.

"to me education means to know how to read, write, know basic math, history, and science."

That's being able to regurgitate facts necessary to function in day to day society. That is not being educated.

"Honestly, it seems that futher education such as Algebra is uneccesary and futile."

If you want to do anything aside from very basic arithmetic then algebra is absolutely necessary.

"Of course, I want to finish high school and later go on to college but i just want to know if that's what God desires for me."

How about if you decide what you want to do and then tell god to shove off?

"I want to live a holy and Godly life and sometimes my mind wonders if i should use such of an amount of my time in school."

No. You should be in a monastery praying 16 hours a day, repenting for four, dining on bread and water for one and denying yourself "worldly" experiences the rest of the time.

Have fun.

"Its like the alternative of not going to school would be going out and spreading the message of Christ into the world and saving souls."

Then do so. Chuck it all and do what the Bible says--let god provide for you while you're out "savin' souls fer Jebus!"

You'll be homeless, hungry, dirty, ignored most of the time and told--politely or not--to get the hell away from people and stop harassing them when you aren't being ignored but, hey, that's how Jesus lived so you should too. It should ramp that wonderful Christian persecution complex into high gear for you, at least.

And even as the realization dawns that religion thrives on blissful ignorance, the delusion gives it a positive spin.

God doesn't care one way or another. You probably should. The social hierarchy will use you for whatever tool you are suited to be, blunt or sharp. You will be worth roughly 2 1/2 times your salary, whatever that might be, to some organization. If you work for a religious hierarchy or similar "non-profit", you will keep even less, since they tend to demand that their adherents "volunteer" to do the menial work.

Have a nice day!

So all you need to be a lawyer or a doctor or an engineer is basic math, history, and science? I don't know - if I'm driving across a bridge, I'd like to know the person who designed it knew a little bit more math than their multiplication tables.

OMG NO!!!!!

I was steeped heavily in church and born-again when I was 15 and I thought the same thing. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!!!

Back in 1989 when I should have been going to college, I was convinced Jesus was coming back soon and that college would be a waste, so I didn't go.

Trust me on this -- go to school, get a degree. You won't regret it, but you WILL regret it in your thirties and beyond, when Jesus still hasn't returned and you're working for $8.50 an hour in a cell phone store just trying to survive.

Yes Asgb, you would be better off gabbling insensibly at people outside of school, as you do on the internet, rather than waste teachers' time bothering with things like algebra. In fact, I think you'll make a fine perfectly stupid bloke and, with a bit of extra unlearning, I think you could go all the way and become a blithering idiot. I see that at least you've managed a smattering of poe-try though.

11/7/2010 8:20:27 AM

Doubting Thomas

Actually, it's not so strange to wonder if God wants us to be stupid, since he punished us all for Adam & Zve eating from the tree of Knowledge of good & evil. The way I took the story was that if they hadn't, then we'd be no smarter than most animals.

But that's only if you believe in the story in the first place. If you're going to sit there and say that God doesn't want us to have higher education, then that's just another example of how religion holds us back.

Oh, and by the way, don't waste your time trying to save all the souls in the world. Almost everybody has heard about Jesus by now, and if they're not Christians it's because they've rejected the idea of Christianity, not because they haven't heard of it.

And since you're a teenager you haven't yet understood that religious people like people to be stupid so they will more easily believe in the religion. Once you learn a lot about the world & universe, religion seems just so silly.

Prof. Bill Hill

Did you know that God's desire for people is as invisible as He is and can only exist and flourish in the infertile region of a gullible dolt's brain?

Did you know that invisible God doesn't float over Syria, Indonesia, Iran and many other countries because invisible Allah floats over those places? Similarly, invisible Allah doesn't float over the USA, New Zealand, Norway etc. Although, invisible Allah is making inroads in to territories not normally associated with him.

If they met, they'd have to invisibly fight each other. Course, this would make their rabid and all too visible adherents tangle with one another. It doesn't take much to make those clods act violently.

Fine with me. I'll need some serfs on my finca. Just keep it quiet when you're praising god down by your cabins.
