Would you prosecute YOUR mother when she tries to protect you from poison? You would go after your own mother just because she got between you and your sin.....

Bloooooody hell. And by the sounds of that first line of the first post, the guy's/girl's friend and brother live in their OWN HOME.

This is important because that would make this even worse -- because then we're also talking home invasion.

I know OP shouldn't really tell his friend to prosecute his own Mum, but I don't really blame him. No, in fact, you know what? Do it. Not a criminal prosecution, because sending your own mum to prison would be wrong, but a private prosecution. Get him to Sue her. To sue her for fucking damages.

And tell him to prosecute those lunatic bitches who call themselves her friends -- if the rest of the family aren't overtly religious, then it sounds like she was dragged into it by them.

Do it mate. D & D magazines, games, and that glass dragon can be replaced, but your friend's bond with his mother can't. When he does prosecute, she'll realise this.

She'll realise she's thrown away whatever love they had for one another, and will have to try very hard to get it back, because that's invaluable, and it shouldn't come below her beliefs in a mystic deity.

What's the thing with destroying swords too? Doesn't Jesus tell his disciples to buy swords in Luke 22 (when it seemed he intended fighting his way out of being arrested by the Romans).

EDIT:
I just realized, the sons don't live with their mother, she lives with them in their home that they pay for. That's difficult... you can't throw your mother out on the street but as long as she lives under your roof she follows your rules and by any definition that must include respecting your property.

PS: If Alyson Hannigan is poison, I'm drinking the Kool-Aid...

"DOOM" (& similar) videogames
"Harry Potter" books/films on DVD/related merchandise
"Twilight" novels
Manga/anime DVDs, etc
Any & all rock/heavy metal albums/MP3s
Etc, etc, ad infinitum ad nauseam...

All said prosecuting lawyer would have to do is cite the 1st Amendment. After all, how can mere books/films/toys/games/music etc be 'sins'?

And you wouldn't have a single legal leg to stand on. I hear that 'divorcing' your parents is legal in many states in the US.

Not for nothing are you known as a 'Fundie', Onlyone(socio)path. Take the 'Fun' out of the equation, what is left in life?

Frankly, all it'll take is one such case to come to court, and you'll be helping Atheism in ways not even we Atheists can imagine. As it was in 1973 with Roe vs. Wade making abortion legal, then Kitzmiller vs. Dover in 2005 making the teaching of 'I.D.'/Creationism not only illegal but unconstitutional, and just this year, Prop. 8 being overturned (thus boosting the LGBT cause in the US), one such case, in which (a) right-wing fundamentalist Christian parent(s) did just that, and denying their child one of the most basic of human rights: a childhood (to be able to grow, not only physically, but psychologically - via the simple but imagination-expanding - and therefore psychologically stabilising - act of playing), would be sufficient to set the precedent - thus helping to the making of the right-wing fundie lifestyle (certainly domestic; child nurturing) illegal itself.

Go right ahead, fundies. You'll be aiding we Atheists in the destruction of everything you stand for - and we won't have to lift a finger (as has been, re. abortion, education, and persecuting gays).

Go right ahead. Do exactly as Oneonly(socio)path suggests. See you in court. Hopefully, then yours would be the precedent-setting case, which does as I mentioned above. And thus help we Atheists and our 'agenda' (if such an 'agenda' exists; it's only you fundies who are doing our own job for us!) Go on - contribute to the continual P.R. traincrash that is everything you right-wing fundies say, do - and think.
