Quote# 77725

Indeed, God established kings to rule. We don't read that God wanted any kings wife to be declared a leader.

[...]

In any event, the Bible is clear that men are to lead in the political realm, military realm and church realm, in the home and elsewhere. The Bible is equally clear as to the duty of women, and it's different from that of men.

The Founders understood this which is partly why women were barred from holding political office and not allowed to vote.

When rebellious women began demanding to be allowed to vote, the fundamentalist pastors and churches stood firm against this because it was seen as a violation of biblical principle.

Of course, as with most things, what the church once stood firmly against, once it became acceptable in society at large, the church gradually dropped their standards and embraced the new way. We have seen this not only within the realm of women in politics and voting, but also in the realm of dress, divorce, "birth control", women pastors, homosexual pastors, viewing of movies, obeying the the law, etc.

You say god says you're supposed to have kings, but then you cite the founding fathers. You know, the people who fought a bitter war to end monarchical rule. I don't think you've properly thought through the implications of this.

"In any event, the Bible is clear . . ."

In any event, the bible is full of shit, so anything that follows 'the bible is clear' is clearly a load of shit.

From the frozen north, Death cometh

I find it funny when people who are descended from traitors to their former monarch speak of the god given obligation of subjects to their rulers.

Are you saying that obeying the law is wrong? What a confused little man.

I like how he threw "viewing of movies" in there.

the Bible is clear that men are to lead in the political realm

Forwarded to Sarah Palin for 2012.

...and church realm

And copied to Joyce Meyers and Gloria Copeland for all time.

The Founders understood this which is partly why women were barred...

What's the "other part?" They were just misogynist A-holes?

When rebellious women began demanding to be allowed to vote...

How dare those "rebellious" women demand a say in their own lives?! What rights did they think they had?! Oh, the audacity!

We have seen this not only within the realm of women in politics and voting, but also in the realm of dress,

Mini skirts and tube tops = the fall of the Western civilization.

divorce,

ie. The freedom to leave that drunken, obnoxious, abusive "husband" whenever she wants.

"birth control",

No need for quotes; birth control is legitimate medicine. You know, controlling pregnancy until one is socially, emotionally and financially able to take care of a baby.

women pastors,

Again, tell Joyce Meyers and Gloria Copeland to shut their cake holes. Better still, tell 'em to git in dat kitchen and make me a cake.

homosexual pastors,

Oh, the horror. The absolute horror.

viewing of movies,

Whiskey tango foxtrot?!

obeying the the law, etc.

Dat's right. 'Cause if she's not barefoot, pregnant and dumber than a box of hammers, she'll be out breaking the law in all sorts of ways. Like jaywalking. Burning leaves without a permit. And spitting on the sidewalk.

Nooooo, the founders didn't allow women to vote because that's how society at the time worked. Nothing more.

The bible is also clear about the fact that Killing is Bad. Yes, it's occasionally advocated by God when Enemy Combatants are involved, but it's very clear about how killing is bad.

Do bible-thumpers actually ever read the fucking bible? Or do they just like using it as a prop in their demagogy?

The vast majority of The Bible was written over 1000 years ago. Maybe it's time to start thinking in those times people were a bit more primitive and primal with their attitudes? Oh but then we'd have to question the entire thing, and we can't do that, because overgrown cult leaders need their monies.

Indeed, God established kings to rule.

Which is why I'm glad we don't follow the divine right of kings form of government any more.

the Bible is clear that men are to lead in the political realm, military realm and church realm, in the home and elsewhere.

Of course, because the bible was written by men.

The Bible is equally clear as to the duty of women, and it's different from that of men.

Yes, it was primarily to be breeding stock, property, and to make sandwiches. Again, because the bible was written by men.

When rebellious women began demanding to be allowed to vote, the fundamentalist pastors and churches stood firm against this because it was seen as a violation of biblical principle.

That, and because they were stodgy old men who didn't want women to have equal rights.

what the church once stood firmly against, once it became acceptable in society at large, the church gradually dropped their standards and embraced the new way.

In other words, they finally became enlightened after everyone else was, which is the way they usually do and is why they're always behind the times.

but also in the realm of dress, divorce, "birth control", women pastors, homosexual pastors, viewing of movies, obeying the the law, etc.

Yeah, who lets women go to movies when there's so much work in the kitchen to be done?

> Indeed, God established kings to rule. We don't read that God wanted any kings wife to be declared a leader.
> In any event, the Bible is clear that men are to lead in the political realm,

No, you just said kings. Not just men. Kings. Absolute monarchy that descends from God. That's the, you know, whole point of God appointing someone to rule - you just can't have people appointing anyone to the throne, now can you? Of course, all talk about women taking the throne is moot, because you peons shouldn't even talk about treasonous things like democracy to begin with. Good grief.

In summary: Don't pick and choose from different bags. If you're willing to embrace democracy, then you shouldn't insist that you still live in an absolute monarchy or a theocracy. With democracy came the chance to start anew and look at things rationally, and rational view is that in order to obtain the broadest and the most representative range of opinions, everyone should vote, and everyone can be elected a representative. Simple enough.

Times change. If you can't change with them, enjoy the pain.

"We don't read that God wanted any kings wife to be declared a leader."

Yeah, well don't tell that to Esther.

There's a whole book in the Bible about her (hint: It's called the Book of Esther), and a Jewish holy day (Purim) created in honor of the life of this queen who was recognized as a leader.

Just more proof that fundies are ignorant of their own Bible, as well as of real life.

Indeed, well said John81, you've shown God's intentions for His mere fleshlings as their cower in darkness and flail futilely in their despair. However, you haven't quite given us the full picture.

You've said that God wants men to lead, and that's true, but what sort of men does He want to lead? God doesn't just want any old men to lead, He wants men of an oafish disposition, men with no concern at all for life and with no fellow feeling, brutal and greedy men, men who are bigots, simple men who are easy to dupe, men who solve problems with violence and torture, asinine men who disdain education and praise stupidity. These are the sort of mindless cretins that God wants to lead us.

I don't think anybody would be particularly surprised at that. After all, we all know that God only wants men who are very much like Him to rule on His earth. Women need not apply, not that they'll have any time anyway, they'll be too busy in the kitchen.
