Quote# 77732

Rush Limbaugh blasted President Obama on Wednesday for thanking the Native Americans and using "every cliché" during the White House's official Thanksgiving proclamation.

The conservative radio talk show host said he was so shocked by Obama's "wildly distorted" version of the holiday that he initially thought it was "a prank."

Limbaugh read the President's words and added his own commentary.

"This Thanksgiving Day, we reflect on the compassion and contributions of Native Americans, whose skill in agriculture helped the early colonists survive, and whose rich culture continues to add to our Nation's heritage," Obama said in the declaration.

Limbaugh added, "…at their casinos and on their reservations."

In the proclamation, Obama said "This spirit brought together the newly arrived Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe — who had been living and thriving around Plymouth for thousands of years."

The radio host chimed in, "So, we were the invaders. The Indians were minding their own business. We were incompetent idiots. We didn't know how to feed ourselves so they came along and showed us how and that's what Thanksgiving is all about."

Limbaugh complained that Obama said "nothing about the Constitution in his Thanksgiving Day proclamation because he's got a problem with it."

He explained to the caller what he thought the "real" story of Thanksgiving:

"The true story of Thanksgiving is how socialism failed," the radio host tells a caller, adding "the Indians didn't teach us capitalism" and that "we shared our bounty with them… because we first failed as socialists."

Actually, we didn't share our bounty with them, it was the other way around. If anything, it's proof of how socialism works. The Natives offered help to the colonists without asking for anything in return. In the U.S., we demand people pay through the nose for the most basic of services.

What? Socialism never failed, it's working in many countries around the world right now, and in many cases much better than the US.

Communism would be more correct, though still not entirely - that's also working right now, though not well by our standards - but what's caused communism to fail has never been communism itself but the dictatorship that has, historically, always been tied to it.

Communism is impossible without dictatorship. Look at Lenin's works - the first attempt to implement communism in real life. He quickly came to the conclusion that communism is not possible unless the government controls every single aspect of people's life.

Trying to push ideological balance in the U.S. wouldn't work so well -- it would lead to requirements that the far-right and the center-right be given equal time. That's about all our "political spectrum" consists of these days, if you look at power and media coverage.

Though the usual telling of Thanksgiving is pretty historically inaccurate and often argued about especially with the protests of Native American groups, we all know that the version that the holiday is based on is meant to teach a lesson about compassion, sharing, and being grateful for what you have. These are noble things that should be celebrated.

Rush Limbaugh on the other hand can't even eat a damn Turkey with his family without vomiting political rhetoric.

Dude. Historical revisionism much? The last line put me past any tolerance. 'We' "shared our bounty"? What? What do you think the Indians got? Reservations, dumbass. Look, the Plymouth settlers died by the scores because they didn't know what they were doing. The Wampanoags did help them out.

Eventually there was a war, and the Wampanoags slowly lost everything. 'We' were in fact invaders. That's how it works. Obama didn't mention it because he's trying to be positive, but it's true. Why are you objecting to that thing he didn't actually say?

Are you suffering from hormone fluctuations? I'm mostly prone to crying when that happens to me, but I know some people turn into total irrational bitches.

The story of Thanksgiving parallels the Farmer and the Viper.

The Natives helped the early colonists not out of faith (religion did not have time to spread) but purely out of goodwill and concern for their fellow human being.
What did it earn them? Their grandchildren murdered, their land taken, and their kindness forgotten.

The Aesop of Thanksgiving is that no good deed goes unpunished and selfishness and greed will always triumph over altruism.

Perhaps Rush is properly channeling the true spirit of Thanksgiving.

Um, most people in the US know that that is the true story of Thanksgiving...so was he actually being sarcastic about it? Wow, dumbass for the lose!

"The true story of Thanksgiving is how socialism failed," the radio host tells a caller...

Tell that to Europe, dumbass.

@Unbeliever:

"Communism is impossible without dictatorship."

I agree, though I think we can get very close to it without the need for dictatorship. Perhaps some sort of contract would be possible - you know, you get 10 years of support and education in return for working at least 10 years in the country? Doesn't matter.

The point, as you probably know, was just that communism hasn't officially failed yet, because it's never been tried on its own.
And socialism certainly hasn't failed.

Talking about cliches, what about the cliche that the countries which don't agree with US are communist?(by the way, how did they defeat an ideology not born then?), or that the whites are the real Americans?, or that the native Americans only devote themselves to Casinos or reservations(as if their clients were taken at gunpoint?)

10 years of automatic slavery in exchange for 10 years of support. Great idea.

But it was tried, with Stalin and Pol Pot as results.

EDIT: Stalin is a bad choice. Lenin would be more proper, as the one who created the basis for Stalin to rise to power.

Sorry, my bad. Misunderstood what you said. What I am stating is communism is impossible without dictatorship. Pretty much any condition when people are not allowed to private property will inevitably cause dictatorship.

Maybe, but such an addendum would at least force Faux News to be truly 'fair and balanced' - if they simultaneously had to praise and criticise Obama & his policies. And rip the piss out of Failin, as well as praise her (or at least be neutral, like BBC News; who wants 'opinions' in news programmes, anyway?). They'd either have to close down or suffer cranial explosions. >:D

Oh, re. my previous post, and Fred Phelps & his WBC. Now that we have a Con-Lib pact government, and that Labour's Jacqui Smith is no longer Home Secretary, I guess her banning the WBC from entering the UK is no longer in force. So I wonder why those filthbags aren't on the first flight over here?

Could their conspicuousness by their absence be due to the fact that the UK has on our statute books something called Section 5 of the Public Order Act? Which gives police the wide-ranging legal power to arrest anyone who uses foul, disgusting, and/or provocative language deliberately designed to outrage individual and/or community decency in public (which is why these days, don't even think about saying 'Fuck Off!' to one of our officers!).

So, if Fred & co. want to do here what they usually do in the US, they'd have no choice but to have completely different placards (so as not to insult people, or thus run afoul of Section 5): 'God loves Gays', 'God hates the 9/11 terrorists', 'God loves the British armed forces', 'God hates IEDs' and so on. And, like I say, for Atheistic balance. 'God doesn't exist'. Certainly not use any of their usual fundie inflammatory language; probably why the raving steet preachers here no longer condemn peole to 'Hell', as saying that - subject to Section 5 - can be considered inflammatory (pun may or may not be intended). So that's probably why they're not here.

Forced balance. We has it, Freddy-boy. Do you?

>:D
