[Mark] Foley is obviously seeking to exculpate his behavior, despite protestations to the contrary by his attorney.
Yup, he really did want to get felt up by his pastor, in spite of him saying the advances were unwanted.
Foley knows that the public is prepared to believe the worst about priests in today’s environment
[and] will stop at nothing to mitigate his actions.
So it's an evil plot to smear a priest, and it's unthinkable that said priest...I dunno...MOLESTED HIM?!
As for the alleged abuse, it’s time to ask some tough questions. First, there is a huge difference between being groped and being raped, so which was it Mr. Foley?
What does it matter? Either way, it's abhorrent.
Second, why didn’t you just smack the clergyman in the face? After all, most 15-year-old teenage boys wouldn’t allow themselves to be molested.
Yeah, because every fifteen year old has the strength to fight off an adult. And even if he did, who is the public gonna look more kindly on? The poor priest that got beaten up, or the vicious teen that attacked him? And the words "Tell whoever you want...no one will ever believe you" does wonders, too, for the same reason.
So why did you?
Because at the core of it, he was a scared kid. Plain and simple. He was cowed by a person of authority.
