Quote# 77855

[Mark] Foley is obviously seeking to exculpate his behavior, despite protestations to the contrary by his attorney. Foley knows that the public is prepared to believe the worst about priests in today’s environment … [and] will stop at nothing to mitigate his actions.

As for the alleged abuse, it’s time to ask some tough questions. First, there is a huge difference between being groped and being raped, so which was it Mr. Foley? Second, why didn’t you just smack the clergyman in the face? After all, most 15-year-old teenage boys wouldn’t allow themselves to be molested. So why did you?

Unreal. Fifteen year olds are subject to the same problems as anyone else being sexually assaulted/harassed by someone in a position of authority. Reasons for being unable to stop/report the abuse:

1) A physical size/strength differential between the abuser and the abused.
2) Psychological manipulation of the abuse victim, such as death threats.
3) When the abuser is in a position of authority, there are inherently consequences for reporting the abuse, including lack of support/belief, social ostracization, loss of needed position/job.
4) TRAUMA. Has it ever occured to you, Mr. Donohue, that being sexually abused or raped is right up there with war as one of the most psychologically damaging things a person can experience? The victim is likely struggling to cope enough to not commit suicide, let alone act in their own defense.

Conclusion: Your utter lack of sympathy for victims is disgusting. How dare you blame the victims of such an awful crime for their experience? You appear to be incapable of empathy, and are therefore a grade-A sociopath. You not only make me ashamed to be a Catholic, you make me ashamed to be a human; would that I could not be part of the same species as you.

What a dick.

Really? A 15 year old boy who probably has learned all his life to not question the authority of the clergy not fighting back is an argument for you? Disgusting, I remember being 15 year old and I sure wasn't physically capable of fighting off an adult man back then. I just never had to. Good grief, this blaming the victim angers me to no end...

12/6/2010 4:55:14 AM

The blame lies with the peretrator, not the victim.
Sure, it's a difference between sexual molestation and rape, but as both are illegal, the perpetrator should be prosecuted, regardless of the gravity of the crime.

Being molested is probably such a shock, that at first you are totally paralyzed. When you are able to react and act again, the molestation might be well over.

Wow. The depths some people will sink to to justify the evils of their chosen faith leaves me speechless.

Is this a version of "silence is consent"?

When I was 14 a boy in my class grabbed my privates in the community pool, in front of several other kids in my class. He did it again several times throughout the following year. We went to a small school, which made it harder to avoid him. When he couldn't grab at me, he made lewd comments. It wasn't rape, but it was enough to make me dread going to school and it was a good 20 years before I make myself go swimming again (something I used to love).

So as someone who has been there, I think I'm perfectly qualified to say, go fuck yourself Mr. Donahue. Inappropriate contact is inappropriate contact.

Mister Spak

Most people don't allow themselves to be brainwashed by a pedophile cult. So why did you?

12/6/2010 6:09:34 AM

Doctor Whom

Have you ever experienced that? Masturbating while imagining it doesn't count.

This...this guy...is scum. No more, and everything less. This guy has completely and utterly ceased to be human, if he ever was one to begin with. That is all: those are the only words that I can think of that come even remotely close to expressing how pissed off I am.

Most churches wouldn't allow themselves to become venal and corrupt to the point that they are the subject of widespread disgust and derision, Bill. So why did yours?

12/6/2010 6:32:16 AM

I will desecrate your grave for that statement, Bill.

12/6/2010 7:03:36 AM

You have NO idea how sexual abuse happens do you? Most abusers pick targets who they know won't fight back for that very reason.

12/6/2010 7:04:45 AM

Dude, if there was a perfect time to play the 'not a true Christian' card, it would be with that clergyman. A lot of people think th Church needs to clean up its image, so why blame the victim when you could be taking a stand against corruption?

12/6/2010 7:05:18 AM

Doubting Thomas

First, there is a huge difference between being groped and being raped

I can't believe Bill actually said this in defense of pedophile priests. Hey Bill, in case you haven't heard, groping children's privates is just as wrong as rape!

After all, most 15-year-old teenage boys wouldn’t allow themselves to be molested. So why did you?

Now we go to blaming the victim. I suppose Bill thinks that the slutty altar boy was just leading the poor helpless priest on.

@ socks:

The really depressing thing about this is that every living creature on the planet, even bacteria, share a common ancestor with William Donohue somewhere along the line. Had the first primitive cell known that one of its descendants would be William Donohue (or the pedophile priest he is defending, for that matter), it would have said, "Screw this" and not reproduced.

12/6/2010 7:38:11 AM

He is a monster, and an arrogant piece of crap on top of that. You should look up his debacle with Christopher Hitchens.

12/6/2010 7:42:11 AM

You know with an attitude like this, I suspect there must be a lot of skeletons in Donohue's closet.

12/6/2010 8:06:46 AM

NOBODY "allows themselves to be molested." NOBODY.

As if defending Catholicism weren't bad enough, this asshole is defending the BABY RAPERS?

12/6/2010 8:13:56 AM

Wow...you are truly either completely stupid or completely evil, Bill Donohue.

Picture this situation: You're dealing with an authority figure, well-respected in the community, gets a lot of attention and devotion because people believe he can put them in Hell. Now, this authority figure is about to secretly abuse his authority to molest you. You are a child/teenager. Your word counts for shit in the community. You are among the various people who believe that this man can put you in Hell if he feels like it. You obviously do not want this man angry with you, because he might turn around and publicly make life VERY hard for you, and who are people going to believe? You, or him?

12/6/2010 8:21:38 AM

*jaw drops* B-but...the...no...the definition of molestation...bzuh. *further incoherent spluttering* WHAT. This is just wrong.

12/6/2010 8:28:29 AM

Joe Mama

First, there is a huge difference between being groped and being raped

So... Am I the only one getting the message that it's OK for priests to molest kids but not to rape them?

12/6/2010 8:40:03 AM

Pule Thamex

Bill, do you think that most people think the worst about priests in today's environment? Do you think that Catholics think that Catholic Fathers are inclined to stick their penises into the mouths or rectums of young boys or sometimes young girls? Mind you, you probably wouldn't blame people if they did think that. It's only natural to want to protect your children from predatory pedophiles.

That's an interesting point you make Bill, about a victim's age. Maybe Catholic Fathers are careful to abuse only those who they think won't smack them in the mouth. After all, no matter how much you want to orgasm inside a young boy's anus, getting your skull caved-in is probably too much of a price to pay.

12/6/2010 8:54:00 AM

You shall henceforth be counted by me amongst the most sickening excuses for men I have ever had the displeasure of being made aware of.
