I can say this, when (and I do think it is when, not if) homosexuals are allowed to serve openly in the military, military service will NOT be a career I will urge my sons or daughters to pursue.

There are millions more like me too, as the lion’s share of military personnel come from the most socially conservative parts of the country (read, “the South.”)

If your children would be so sorely tempted by being around openly homosexual people, I agree they should not join the military. Those brave homosexual soldiers, sailors, and airmen don't need to be harassed by your inbred spawn.

I am confident that the military can no without any more bigots. There are plenty of young people who are willing to serve their country. People who are scared of "teh gay" are obviously too stupid and too cowardly to be fit for military duty.

About 70% of members surveyed in the Pentagon study saw no harm in allowing openly gay servicemembers, so I doubt most "socially conservative" southerners in the military have a problem serving alongside gay people, unless you grossly overestimated the number of southerners serving our country. It's the 'sexual perverts' in the Church you need to worry about, not those in the military. After all, paedophiles have access to minors from the time they're born in the Church whereas those in the military can't get their paws on them till they're young adults.

Who will defend you? The same people who have defended you for decades; the "sexual perverts". Openly or secretly, they have been in your army a loooong time, probably as long as there has been a US of A.

Since you have almost never had an attack on your own soil, they must be doing a heck of a job! There's Pearl Harbor and there's 9/11. Almost all the other times your army have been active, they have been sent elsewhere, to attack others.

While this isn't true, it's possible for people (especially conservatives) to go through whole military careers believing it. Why? Well, some parts of the military are still run by right-wing white conservatives; and quite a few of those RWWCs aren't afraid of saying "screw the law, being loudly right-wing is the only acceptable expression of politics in my army!" Conservative soldiers are much more free to be loudly obnoxious about their politics while in the military than others are.

The military needs homosexual experts and practitioners within its ranks in order to be prepared for all eventualities. For instance, say during a war that many soldiers were captured and made POW's. Then, under those circumstances, the prisoners would need experts to lead the way in the time-honoured and traditional sacred sodomy rituals of imprisoned Christians.
