What would be the motivation for such a deceptive endeavor? Obvious motivations include trying to prove evolution, trying to disprove or cast doubt on the Christian Bible and the existence of the Christian God, trying to disprove the young-earth theory, and trying to disprove creationism. Yes, there are major political and religious ramifications.
The dinosaur concept implies that if God exists, He tinkered with His idea of dinosaurs for awhile, then probably discarded or became tired of this creation and then went on to create man. The presented dinosaur historical timeline suggests an imperfect God who came up with the idea of man as an afterthought, thus demoting the biblical idea that God created man in His own image. Dinosaurs are not mentioned in the Bible.
Highly rewarding financial and economic benefits to museums, educational/research organizations, university departments of paleontology, discoverers and owners of dinosaur bones, and for the book, television, movie and media industries, may cause sufficient motivation for ridiculing of open questioning and for suppression of honest investigation.

"may cause sufficient motivation for ridiculing of open questioning and for suppression of honest investigation"
Yeah, because we don't want any of that, do we? Open questions and honest investigations, teh horror!
It's easy, really; the people who wrote the Bible did not know about dinosaurs. That's why they aren't mentioned in there.
America is also not mentioned, as that continent wasn't discovered yet.
Young Earth and creationism have been debunked, time and time again. No reason therefore of "trying to disprove" them.
Keeping with reality has no political ramifications whatsoever.
Millions of people manages to be religious AND live in reality, so very little ramifications there as well.
Dinosaurs are not mentioned in the Bible.
Yet other creationists claim that the bible did mention dinosaurs and then claims the flood made them extinct. So which creation theory is right? Genesis 1 or Genesis 2
You creationists ought to get all your "shit in one sock" and spout some consistent shit!
“Highly rewarding financial and economic benefits to museums, educational/research organizations, university departments of paleontology, discoverers and owners of dinosaur bones, and for the book, television, movie and media industries, may cause sufficient motivation for ridiculing of open questioning and for suppression of honest investigation.”
So what were the motivations back before dinosaurs were such a hot commodity?
"... ridiculing of open questioning* and for suppression of honest investigation."
Can I be your mirror polish supplier?
I bet you go through several cases a day to keep it that shiny.
* By open questioning you obviously mean something along the lines of Glenn Beck. Such as, "I'm not saying Darwinist evolutionists are all atheist, Muslim, homo Satan worshippers who hate god and rape children. I'm just asking a question."
Meanwhile churchs have been pulling in big cash for centuries for the right reasons? The only argument you people have used is "The Bible says the Earths only 6000 years old" which is not just ridiculous but your Bible doesn't say that.
The young-Earth concept is believed by a small fringe group of Christians and entirely based on some invented and illogical caculations by one man. This is what's revealed by honest investigation. Christians of your ilk don't know your Bible let alone it's roots and most you refuse to investigate either, instead you listen to your leaders who only deal with small parts of the book.
The actual knowledge of most creationist of the Bible is of the Childrens Illustrated versions
And God looked unto his raptors and triceratops and realized he was bored as hell, yet when he visited his holy remote unto his 80 inch plasma, there was nothing good on, and he was even more bored and with great wrath he nuked his creations with meteors and shit and saw it was mildly amusing!
Later, in space, God was once again bored as hell and made Man, regrettably, he also made Rushdoony.

So you're saying that either dinosaurs didn't exist, or your holy book is wrong?
Well, we have more than enough fossils; dinosaurs did exist.
SO YOUR HOLY BOOK MUST BE WRONG.
The presented dinosaur historical timeline suggests an imperfect God who came up with the idea of man as an afterthought, thus demoting the biblical idea that God created man in His own image
And the conclusion you draw from that is that a thousand-hand collection of stories by Bronze age Arabs is right and thousands of scientists working for centuries in a dozen different fields are all in some giant conspiracy to prove the stories wrong? How about the simplest conclusion, reached by St. Augustine back in the 4th century: this Genesis stuff isn't to be taken as literal science or history?
Is this guy seriously suggesting that dinosaurs never existed?!
Oh wait, it's Rushdoony. I know who this guy is; he is the inventor of Dominionism (that or someone who took his name, since I'm pretty sure that he's dead.) He cannot be trusted.
"The dinosaur concept implies that if God exists, He tinkered with His idea of dinosaurs for awhile, then probably discarded or became tired of this creation and then went on to create man."
Translation: "Waaahhhh someone suggested I'm not the center of the universe!"
"Dinosaurs are not mentioned in the Bible."
I think your old pal Mr. Hovind would like to have a word with you.
Sadly, real museums barely scrape by.
Theme parks on the other hand, such as the "Creation Museum" rake in oodles of cash by appealing to the lowest common denominator.
Is the man suggesting we should stop discovering dinosaur bones because they disprove the babble?
[At a dig:] Oh look professor, at this meter long bone I just fou...didn't find and which almost certainly didn't belong to a Pleiosaur which, as I'm sure you know, never existed 180 million years ago. Isn't that exciting?
*snigger*
"Obvious motivations include trying to prove evolution"
We already did that...move along sir...
"trying to disprove or cast doubt on the Christian Bible"
That really isn't that hard. Your bible makes all kinds of claims it doesn't back up...therefore, logically speaking, it is bogus.
"and the existence of the Christian God"
LOL. Not real as well. We need EVIDENCE. Spelled E. V. I. D. E. N. C. E.
"trying to disprove the young-earth theory, and trying to disprove creationism."
Like thats hard *sarcasm.* A three year old could disprove young earth "theory." Creationism is also not supported by ANY evidence.
Wow. You people haven't the faintest idea how science and critical thought work. Kind of sad in a way.
Dinosaurs are a very small part of the history of life. If they had never existed, aside from there being no birds, there would be little difference today. Evolution doesn't hinge on dinosaurs.
That being said, dinosaurs did exist. They were so plentiful and existed for so long that their fossils are, considering the vast stretch of time and the odds against the formation of fossils, incredibly common. Our poor original poster is nuts.
trying to disprove the young-earth theory, and trying to disprove creationism.
You think scientists needed to invent dinosaurs to disprove young earth or creationism? It's not that complicated to do, mainly because YEC's only arguments are either based solely on the bible, are wild ideas that have been firmly debunked by science, or are attacks on evolution. They have no evidence and no valid theories. In short, they can't prove it and they know it.
The only problem is that creationism is neither honest or investigation. It's on a par with trying to prove there is a palace of the gods on Mount Olympus. Nor does it allow any questioning, as being bible-based, it cannot be wrong. So out the window with honest, investigation and questioning.
How is it these dingbats cannot see the stupidity of what they write. Did they take a degree in stupidness (Stupidity would be too intelligent a word for them!)
The main reason for our noble endeavor of science and research is not financial gain (although I acknowledge that the modern scientific system where scientists have to work for meagre salaries and face a very insecure future doesn't make this easy)
It is the insatiable wish for knowledge, truth, and complete detest of being told ancient fairy-tales. Sorry to say that, but the Bible failed spectacularly on any questions of Physics, Biology, Geology, Mathematics, Engineering, Meteorology, Astronomy, and a lot more. This badly written book is not worth at all of "honest investigation" and "balanced view". Anybody who defends the Bible as scientific "truth" deserves nothing but ridicule.
And a personal remark to this Fundie: Your line of argument culminating in "... demoting the biblical idea that God created man in His own image": Congratulations! You are on the right path. Now you should only think this thought consistently to the end.
I really love this post, because it's so well written and with such a professional tone, yet the content is still bat-shit crazy. It even sounds like some of my college textbooks would sound in an alternate universe where up is down and the Bible has no contradictions.
Let me get this right, you are denying the existence of dinosaurs based on a 3000 year old Bronze Age creation myth, despite the mountains of evidence located everywhere around the world.
It is really sad what lengths the religiously impaired will go through to justify their delusional view of reality.
Dude, every time we do this "open questioning" thing you guys end up losing. Maybe THAT's why we stopped. YOU won't get the hint.
We've tested it a thousand times and every time YOU'RE WRONG!!!
... trying to prove evolution, trying to disprove or cast doubt on the Christian Bible and the existence of the Christian God, trying to disprove the young-earth theory, and trying to disprove creationism.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, sold it at a yard sale. You're 100 years out of date (at least). Try to catch up with the rest of the world before arguing anything at all.
No one ever taught you the art of speaking directly, did they, Capt. Passive Runaround?
Also, you've got tons of yellow YECs saying Leviathan, Ziz, and Behemoth are proof positive that giant lizards are in the Bible.
"The dinosaur concept implies that if God exists, He tinkered with His idea of dinosaurs for awhile, then probably discarded or became tired of this creation and then went on to create man."
Isn't that an Eddie Izzard routine ?
"The presented dinosaur historical timeline suggests an imperfect God who came up with the idea of man as an afterthought, thus demoting the biblical idea that God created man in His own image."
Translation: "Waaah! I want my religion to tell me I'm special!"
---
Why are all the fundie quotes reminding me of Eddie Izzard today?
Rushdoony, an honest reading of your own Bible makes it perfectly clear that your god isn't perfect. First he creates humans, but makes the mistake of making a snake who tempts them into eating the forbidden fruit for shits and giggles. Then when humanity populates the Earth and gets too evil for God's tastes, God kills most of them with a giant flood only to realize that the whole exercise was pointless. Then he gives the Hebrews a law that he assures them isn't too hard to follow and that they're to follow it forever, only to change his mind about that and institute a "new covenant" via Jesus.
Need I go on?
Dinosaurs are not mentioned in the bible for the same reason that kangaroos, maori birds and aardvarks are not mentioned. The people who wrote the useless thing didn't know they existed or had existed, because they hardly knew there was a world beyond the confines of what could be loosely termed the eastern Med.
We have tons - literally - of dinosaur fossils, whereas you have not one shred of credible evidence that god exists or ever created a single fucking thing. The bible, with its talking snakes and four-legged insects, is not credible evidence of anything except that some gullible idiots will believe absolutely any shit that's thrown at them in the name of god.
Dinosaurs aren't a CONCEPT, Billy-Bob. They existed, and yes, they existed before man. This is a proven fact.
The fact that your fragile ego is offended by the idea that dinosaurs came first and man came later doesn't change the facts. Facts don't change because you're going to have self-esteem issues as a result of them.
The "young Earth theory" is not a theory, since you have no evidence to support it. At best it's a hypothesis, but even then it sounds stupid. Everything we've collected suggests a very old Earth and an even older universe. Do continue this willful ignorance if you must, but at least get your terminology right.
"The presented dinosaur historical timeline suggests an imperfect God who came up with the idea of man as an afterthought, thus demoting the biblical idea that God created man in His own image."
Negative. Mammals were evolving alongside of dinosaurs.
Wow, a creationist to the right of Ken Ham, whose Kentucky museum is very big on dinosaurs. That's quite an achievement. Respect. I just love the cartoon of Jesus riding a T Rex. That has made my day - even if it is a parody, which I confess I didn't realise straight away.
Confused?
