As a retired AF officer, the thought of having to listen to their gay fights makes me sick. The military is no place for this. It's bad enough fixing the fights between the men and the women. Even though I'm female, I don't think women are good for the military. I certainly wouldn't compound the problem with gays.

Also, I didn't know that female soldiers wore makeup and jewellery on the battlefield. But then again, TrickleUpPolitics is a retired female officer, so I guess she knows better than I do.

Most of the arguments tend to involve "flaming" gays. Somehow I don't see that demographic being all that interested in being in the military. Just like not every straight person goes directly to the recruitment center after graduating high school, I doubt that all homosexuals will go and sign up now. It takes a certain mentality to be in the military; and not everybody, straight or gay, has it. I know I don't.
And the AIDS argument is just stupid.

And I agree about the AIDS problem vis-a-vis battlefield wounds. In fact, maybe we could have entire formations of AIDS infected gays on the front lines: the enemy would be afraid to shoot them for fear the blood would splash on them.
You do know that they do a complete and intensive physical before letting anyone into the military, don't you? That includes a blood test where they would check for HIV. Or do you think that gay sex makes people spontaneously develop the disease on their own?
How long before gay soldiers want to wear earrings and makeup like the ladies?
Gay =/= transvestite. And even if they did, as long as it's on their off-duty time it shouldn't matter.
How much command time will be taken up to disentangle gay spats?
Probably not any more than would be used to disentangle heterosexual spats. And from having been in the military, I've seen a lot of domestic violence problems, not to mention simple marital problems which end in divorce.
How many "partners" without the benefit of marriage will the gays be allowed to move into base housing and get benefits while straights aren't allowed to do so with their sexual partners unless they are officially married?
If you'd just allow them to get legally married, you wouldn't have this problem.

While we're at it, can we also get rid of the Christians in the military? I mean, sure some are sane, but what about the crazy fundie ones? What if suddenly, in the middle of a battle, they put down their guns and kneel to pray for victory instead of actually fighting? What will it do to unit cohesion if we have Catholics and Protestants constantly bickering with each other about the perpetual virginity of Mary? What if the Calvinists decide that the outcome of every battle is pre-determined and get everyone else all discouraged by saying that we don't have any hope of winning?
Or, on the other hand, we could NOT pay attention to absurd stereotypes, and we could NOT pretend like ridiculous caricatures are in any way common or representative... That works, too.
