Quote# 78343

Fornication is the diametric opposite of marriage. As Saint Paul observed, fornication tends toward death. That is not opinion, that is a natural law. Like gravity, it applies whether one believes it or not. Fornication destroys the person who practices it, and spreads its destruction to those close to the fornicator; the partners, the children, the parents and siblings, and to the rest of society. Fornicators not only live shorter lives (from violence, drug abuse, STD’s, suicide, other risk-taking behaviors such as drug abuse), but fortunately for the rest of us, they also have shorter careers, either because they get into legal troubles (such as embezzlement), or because their health or psychiatric problems force them out of their positions. Unfortunately for all of us, the social destruction of fornication can completely wipe out a nation.

Though she overstates the hazards of it, there is something to be said for approaching sex more soberly than many in this society do. There is no such thing as safe sex, only safer sex.

If anything is claimed to be "natural law" it's most likely lunacy: if you can't think of any good reason to hate something other than that it's "natural law" and BAD THINGS will happen if you don't do exactly what we say, you're a lunatic, and not even the good kind.

" As Saint Paul observed, fornication tends toward death. That is not opinion, that is a natural law."

That is not natural law, that is a load of crap.

I have fornicated rather a lot with boyfriends. We always use condoms. Shockingly, NONE of the dire threats this Missouri gal posted have ever materialized.

Let's assume for a brief moment that all your bullshit is true. How does a piece of paper from the state magically prevent all of these calamities?

OK, I can see where you're concerned about STD's, which is perfectly logical. Anyone having sex with multiple partners should always use protection.

But I just don't know how you make the logical leap from sex to violence, drug abuse, suicide, embezzlement, etc. Unless you're lumping all sinners into one category.

And frankly, people's sex lives are none of your business. Just because you happen to believe that it leads to all sorts of societal ills doesn't make it your business.

But premarital sex is essential for a marriage to ensure that you'll be sexually compatible. You don't want to find out after the wedding that your wife is frigid, or on the other end of the spectrum she breaks out the whips & chains on the wedding night.

The problem, I think, is that normal, average people (far and away the largest percentage of the bell curve) do not make the news very often, being unsensational for the most part. This lack of baseline data causes the crazies of a certain flavor to believe that they are living in the delusional world portrayed in Reefer Madness. This is coupled with complete ignorance of cause and effect, as reinforced by all manner of false attributions in their book of mythology. Those that buy into this delusional world will then self-flagellate, emotionally speaking, and seek to force others to conform in order to justify their dreary and miserable lifestyle choices. This can be seen as a "psychiatric" (psychological) problem.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are getting laid and laughing our asses off at their very non-altruistic "concern".

As Saint Paul observed, fornication tends toward death. That is not opinion, that is a natural law. Like gravity, it applies whether one believes it or not.

It was likely that Paul didn't understand the process of disease as Toothygrin and DevilsChaplain have already mentioned. Premarital sex does not automatically equal disease if you are not practicing it safely, e.g. condoms every time.

Fornication destroys the person who practices it, and spreads its destruction to those close to the fornicator; the partners, the children, the parents and siblings, and to the rest of society.

People have been having sex with each other without being married since time immemorial and it isn't likely to stop now. Plus [citation needed] on the it causes destruction on the person having sex, "the partners, the children, the parents and siblings, and to the rest of society."

"...Fornicators not only live shorter lives ..."

Try telling that to Hugh Hefner, age 84.

Oh, wait, never mind. I guess after marrying his 24-year-old girlfriend, he'll be a fornicator no longer. Praise Jeebus!

The reasons that fornicators died would likely have been STDs.

People didn't even know that bacteria existed back in St Paul's time, it's fair to say that his observations were somewhat lacking.

Did anyone else noticed how she mentioned drug abuse, and when mentioning other risk-taking behaviors used drug abuse as an example. You can't use drug abuse as an example if you've already mentioned drug abuse.

Fortunately for us, Missouri gal, what consenting adults get up to when they're having happy fun time is none of your fornicating business. Your little revenge fantasy is really creepy, too. Please seek help.

"Fornication tends toward Death"

Life tends towards death! Everything tends towards death! Some activities quicker than others. As for fornication, safe sex less so than sleeping around without condoms with just about anyone, (but hey try telling that to the Catholic Church!) And with masterbation, in men, it reduces the chance of testicular cancer. Therefore it could extend your life.

You just don't like it because it's fun and makes you feel good, which Christians don't like because we are supposed to feel sinful and worthless until we die. This isn't a likeable cult!

12/29/2010 10:29:09 AM

When St Paul said that fornication tended towards death, it´s obvious that he meant a spiritual death, a metaphore. Natural laws apart, which animals get married to have sex?. That´s nature, baby.

If that were even the least bit true, then life as we know it would have gone extinct hundreds of thousands of years ago. Possibly billions, if you think this applies to all species.

What the hell does fornication have to do with violence and drug abuse? Also, if fornication leading to death was a natural law, then animals would die if they had sex before marriage.
