Quote# 78820

Once again, Sarah Palin proves her enemies wrong. She is accused of being a simpleton, and yet delivers a heart-felt, balanced and sensitive message expressing her condolences to those killed and injured in Tucson, and a response to those insane foes of free speech.

All the media can find to criticize her remarks is her use of the term "blood libel". In fact, her use of the term is perfect, in that she and the Tea Party movement are accused by Democrats and liberal media of being responsible for any acts of violence on elected officials. This is reminiscent of times when Jews were accused of seeking the blood of Christians for use in secret religious ceremonies. Both charges are equally absurd.

I would ask Mrs. Palin's detractors to ask themselves: Do I hate her for her political views? Do I wish her death? Do I "pile-on" with others when it comes to Mrs. Palin, simply because it is the trendy thing to do? Do I call her "stupid" because the press does and/or I am afraid I might be called stupid if I do not agree?

Just who is using politics to incite violence here? Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black!

Do I hate her for her political views?
- No, I don't hate her at all, I pity her, and her followers.
Do I wish her death?
- No, liberals tend not to wish death on their opponents, unlike "Christian conservatives".
Do I "pile-on" with others when it comes to Mrs. Palin, simply because it is the trendy thing to do?
- Sorry, going with the crowd is for mindless rushbots - most liberals tend to be individualists.
Do I call her "stupid" because the press does and/or I am afraid I might be called stupid if I do not agree?
- Hardly. Mrs. Palin is IMHO, a threat to the USA, and to intelligent life everywhere.

Most people do send heartfelt messages when it comes to offering condolences. And hers was no different. But what of the message sent by immediately purging her web pages of images like the crosshairs on the country, even before anyone said anything about it?

Ronald Reagan once said that the ten scariest words in the English language were "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you." That was before "I'm Sarah Palin, now show me the missile launch codes."

She's not a simpleton because she can spew pretty words?

The entire speech was written FOR her, not by her. She's proved she can read.

"refudiate": discuss its place in the English language.

"All the media can find to criticize her remarks is her use of the term "blood libel". In fact, her use of the term is perfect, in that she and the Tea Party movement are accused by Democrats and liberal media of being responsible for any acts of violence on elected officials."

Yes, well, when you have a party of nuts all saying the same fucking thing in various ways and that thing is that government officials should be "removed" or "taken out" it's pretty obvious to everyone--save you, apparently--what they're talking about. They only make it a veiled statement to stay off terrorist watch lists and avoid visits from the FBI and Homeland Security.

"This is reminiscent of times when Jews were accused of seeking the blood of Christians for use in secret religious ceremonies. Both charges are equally absurd."

What is absurd is 1: that she would equate the two and, 2: that you would agree with her.

"I would ask Mrs. Palin's detractors to ask themselves: Do I hate her for her political views?"

I do not "hate" Palin. I think she's an empty headed bimbo unqualified to run a hotdog stand but I do not hate her.

"Do I wish her death?"

I wish death on no one. I don't have to. It comes soon enough to everyone anyhow.

"Do I "pile-on" with others when it comes to Mrs. Palin, simply because it is the trendy thing to do?"

I'm not really a "joiner," so no. I just state facts: she's a moron.

"Do I call her "stupid" because the press does and/or I am afraid I might be called stupid if I do not agree?"

See above.

"Just who is using politics to incite violence here? Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black!"

Calling someone stupid is not violence. Calling for elected officials to be "removed" from office in such a way that it's pretty obvious that you're doing everything but providing the gun and ammunition is something else entirely.

Sorry, but if she goes around erasing her "crosshair" message from her websites as she's reading her little speech, I don't feel that she's that sincere about it.

Also, the speech was written FOR her. She probably doesn't even know what half of those words mean.

Okay Joe, I'll bite.

- I do not "hate" Ms. Palin or wish her dead. However, I see no redeeming feature in her rhetoric or her political aspirations. Furthermore, I think that a lot of her positions stem from gross ignorance and self-righteousness. To base public policy on ignorance and self-righteousness is, I believe, stupid. The invasion of Iraq stands as exhibit "A" on that matter.

- Hating Ms. Palin is "trendy?" Mister, where the hell have you been? Ms. Palin and her family are splashed all over he media! They are celebrities, there is no denying that! All celebrities get slammed, it comes with the job description. The only difference is that most of them don't whine about it the way she does.

- No, I do not call her "stupid" to conform. I call her "stupid" because I believe the term is accurate. She is making hints about running for the presidency, yet she has demonstrated no real competency in any area of politics. She quit her last executive position to make self-promotion a full time avocation and expects to receive adulation for this. To me, that sounds really stupid.

Okay Joe, its your turn. Please explain to us why we should take Palin seriously. And you can cut out the "victim" act that the TeaBaggers have been throwing around since they lost the 2008 election. It just makes you look pathetic.

heart-felt..sensitive.. not the words i'd use to describe the emptiness and lack of empathy in the facial expression of one mrs palin.

Ok, isn't there the slightest possibility that she's doing it for POLITICAL PROFIT(like most politicians, for that matter)?. Wonder why they'd if the said politician was democrat.

If Palin were at all serious about being a politician (either for her own benefit or for that of others), she would not have resigned as governor of Alaska. If, instead, she is motivated primarily by a desire for fame and money, then her actions and statements follow a predictable pattern. She cannot hold political office, because of limitations like salary caps and anti-corruption legislation. And she must continue to do and say outrageous things, independent of reality or of what she actually believes. I find this all rather boring, actually.

So I personally have been avoiding knowing what she is saying, in the hope that she will eventually fade from the public eye.

Do I hate her for her political views?
No, I despise her views. I pity her.

Do I wish her death?
No. I wish she'd shut up, though.

Do I "pile-on" with others when it comes to Mrs. Palin, simply because it is the trendy thing to do?
I don't do anything because it's "trendy".

Do I call her "stupid" because the press does and/or I am afraid I might be called stupid if I do not agree?
Okay, maybe you parrot Faux Noise and are just projecting, but, no id don't.

It's hard to like someone who is the darling of right-wing nutjobs who think gay people are causing the apocalypse. And that shooting target map? I don't care if conservatism wasn't the reason for the Arizona shootings. That was just LOW and sick-minded.

I call her stupid because she is stupid. Did you watch her TV series where they followed her around. Having grown up in Alaska, I was amazed at how often she demonstrated her stupidity on the show.

You need to be a genius to offer condolences to the victims of a senseless shooting? Maybe by fubdie standards, but in the real world a 12 year old could probably manage it.

The same 12 year old would probably make a better President, too.

Doubting Thomas

I dislike her political views, but I don't hate her. I leave the hate to conservative Christians.

And I personally think that Sarah Palin has been nothing more than a media whore ever since the 2008 election. Of course that applies to just about anyone with a reality show (which she apparently had to fly back to Alaska to participate in, since she's been working for Fox News since quitting the governor job), but the way she keeps trying to manufacture controversy (i.e. "We're making s'mores in honor of Michelle Obama who says we shouldn't eat dessert.") to keep herself in the limelight. And she and other conservatives have been awfully defensive after the Tucson shooting.

The tea party being accused of inciting violence is just as absurd as the idea of Jews kidnapping and murdering virgin Christians to make them into matzot? Really?

She is accused of being a simpleton

Saying she's a simpleton might be going too far but she's definitely far too ignorant to be a president. She can't even name a single Supreme Court decision besides Roe v. Wade or a single magazine/newspaper that she reads.

yet delivers a heart-felt, balanced and sensitive message expressing her condolences to those killed and injured in Tucson, and a response to those insane foes of free speech

If she didn't that would be the end of her political career. She's insanely ignorant and possibly stupid too but she's not completely retarded.

The answer to all of those is no. I think she's way too ignorant too be a president. Her answers remind me of when I was interviewing for a senior level developer position that was way over my head and I had to bullshit a lot of my answers. They didn't hire me and I agree with that decision because you don't want somebody who doesn't know what they're doing possibly destroying code. That concern gets cranked up to 11 when you're putting somebody in charge of the entire country and she doesn't have a clue how the federal government works. Of course, neither do her followers which is why she can get away with being that shockingly ignorant.

Meridian the Imaginary

Do I hate her for her political views?
No, though I do dislike her. Hatred is passionate, and it's too easy for such strong emotions to overwhelm objectivity. I try not to hate anyone.

Do I wish her death?
No. Her death would do nothing except provoke wild conspiracy theories from the paranoid right-wing. I suspect any mishap would only deepen the divide between the two parties as false accusations and distrust abound. Even if that wasn't the case, no one should be killed for being willfully ignorant.

Do I call her "stupid" because the press does and/or I am afraid I might be called stupid if I do not agree?
I call her stupid because she talks about subjects she clearly knows nothings about. Among other things, she said that she would cut spending to projects that don't help the public good...and then cited fruitfly research as an example, looking amazed that scientists are currently working on something so "useless." She spoke of death panels, and of Israel's right to expand settlements because "more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead," which suggests to me that she thinks Christ's second coming is right around the corner. The press had nothing to do with it; her lack of intellect couldn't be more obvious if she scrawled "Moron" on her forehead with Magic Marker.

I do not hate Palin for her political views (though I strongly disagree with them). I do not wish her death. I do not "pile-on" with others when it comes to her (nor do I know what that means). I do not call her stupid because the press does. I call her stupid because, when she was McCain's running mate, she did not understand the main doctrines of her own political party, she thought that the fact that she lived in a state where one can see Russia made her qualified to speak on matters of foreign policy, and she has shown no signs of educating herself since then. Will the far right stop its violent rhetoric? If not, then we are perfectly justified in considering them at least partially complicit in the tragedy, since they show no remorse or any sign of changing their ways. Loughner, despite being left-wing, was pushed over the edge because of the polarized American political rhetoric, terrified that if he didn't do something, the conservatives would do something drastic. I am not defending him; I despise him because he resorted to violence and killed innocents. This polarized situation has to stop before something even worse happens.
