The "Big Bang" was originally an insult to the theory. Big Bang was later adopted by the cosmologists as a great name. "Fairie Dust" is a creative and interesting name for dark matter and energy. Who knows where this will lead?

On the other hand, when Einstein's Theory of Relativity predicted the existence of black holes, many thought it was indeed science fiction. Then astronomers observed the evidence for black holes...

Maybe Doveaman thinks the last word in astronomy and cosmology was geocentrism.

Alencon: Not quite a misspelling. "Fairy" and "faerie" are both legitimate, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point so was "fairie".

Anyway, dark matter is more like i (as in the square root of -1) than anything else. It's currently a shortcut that bridges other phenomena. The whole reason it's called dark is because we're "in the dark" as to its essence. That does not mean we can never hope to understand its essence, just that we haven't pierced that far yet.

One would think they'd be happy about Black Holes, Dark Energy, Dark Matter. They could say their deity created it and use it as evidence of his great majesty. Instead they insist on making him as minute as possible, while saying how grand he is.
