Quote# 79137

I do not believe in the existence of atheists. No, this is not a play on words or a trick statement. Atheists don’t exist. By “atheist” I am referring to the ideal person who does not believe in the existence of God, not the person who labels themselves as an atheist. Clear as mud? All people who label themselves as “atheist” are not, by definition, atheists, because they all believe in the existence of God.

This is actually not that uncommon of a sentiment among evangelicals, for two reasons that I can see:

1. There are a few places in the Bible that can be interpreted to say that everyone perceives God in one way or another.

2. It answers the question of "Why would God send a virtuous pagan to Hell just because he never heard about Jesus?" The answer, of course, being that unbelief is really active rebellion and not a matter of lack of information.

Unfortunately, it's also a ridiculous and unfalsifiable argument.

And I don't believe Christians exist because all Christians disbelieve the existence of Jesus.

See how stupid you sound?

Who died and made you king of Word Definition?

Only the idea of gods must exist, in order for the use of the word "atheist" to be practical.
Remember Dante, we also do not believe in the existence of all the other gods and godesses. Are you saying that Allah and Gaia exist as well?

Well ... I call myself Atheist. It may sound contradictory, but I know that God exists. This is not faith, this is a fact.

I can provide tons of evidence: Holy scriptures. Millions of people pray daily to a deity. Countless temples, churches, places of worship all over the world. You can study theology at university. There is a wikipedia page about God.

What does all of this mean? I completely acknowledge the existence of God (because of this compelling evidence), but this God I'm speaking of is a cultural invention. A human invention. Similiar to Achilles, Harry Potter, or the Simpsons. Harry Potter exists, but only as a fictional character. And the bible is nothing but a book of tales.

I call myself Atheist insofar as there is absolutely NO evidence that God is anything outside the human cultural sphere.

It was not God who made us in his image, WE made God in our image.

Later in the article:

When the believer is discussing the existence of God with a nonbeliever, ask them why they don’t like God. Every one of them will present a list. That list will ultimately consist of areas of God’s law and His character that interfere with the self-law of the nonbeliever.

Congratulations, Dante. You've just proved the existence of Santa Claus.

Read his page, it get MUCH worse.

Effectively, his argument is that atheists believe in god because when he thinks he has defeated them in a logical debate they refuse to admit defeat.

Atheists aren't actually atheists because they don't agree when I say there is a god.

DUH.

I do not believe in the existence of christians. No, this is not a play on words or a trick statement. Christians don’t exist. By “christian” I am referring to the ideal person who does not believe in the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, not the person who labels themselves as an christian. Clear as mud? All people who label themselves as “christian” are not, by definition, christians, because they all believe in the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

After all, he has touched you with His Noodly Appendage.

What the poor man can't seem to get his mind around is that how can anyone dislike (or like for that matter) some claimed entity that does not exist. It goes along with the believers' whines that atheists are rude and abusive to them when all that has happened is that their beliefs are challenged.

He's right you know, I was an atheist and I did believe in God. I don't believe in God anymore though because now I'm an ogjikbinodeklidovmiveal. Atheist means to pretend to not believe in God. So, the correct term for someone who doesn't believe in God is not an atheist but an ogjikbinodeklidovmiveal.

Whereas, the correct term for being a simpleton of extreme doltishness is a tremaineite. Tremaineite means a moron of almost unbelievable stupidity, less intelligent than a gerbil, probably believes in an invisible cloud lounger, is an inane jerk, etc

"All people who label themselves as “atheist” are not, by definition, atheists, because they all believe in the existence of God."

Atheist noun
/'e?.?i.?st/ n
someone who believes that God or gods do not exist. Source: Cambridge online dictionary.

I don't think, "by definition" means what you think it means.

And yet they feel they must go out and bring Jesus to these heathens anyway. *sigh*

Wow, talk about delusional. Although I dont agree with the atheist stance (Im a Pagan), to say there are no atheist, its downright stubborn at the very least, downright stupid at the very worst.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what Christopher Hitchens is referring to when he labels these fanatics, "Solipsists".

"I don't believe you exist therefore you don't."

Anon @1251006 did a pretty good job of describing my position. I usually state it by saying, "God is a sock puppet!"

As for the old philosophical argument about really only being able to rationally say one is agnostic, I am 99.999... percent convinced that no creator exists. .333... = 1/3, .666... = 1/6. .333... + .666... = .999, 1/3 + 2/3 = 1. Ergo, I'm an atheist. Like it or not Dante.

And people who call themselves Christians aren't really Christians because they don't really believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ.

See? I can make up stupid shit too. The only difference is that Christians get severely pissed off if you suggest they don't beleive in their savior. I really don't care if Chrisitans think I actually do believe in God. I just feel sorry for them for not understanding reality.

But I really do have to wonder why Christians find it so important to convince themselves that there are no real atheists.
